[Dx-packages] [Bug 932900] Re: Unity freeze, crashes when trying to restart - GPU lockup with IPEHR: 0x7a000002

2013-12-11 Thread David Huggins-Daines
Sorry for the spam, but this just happened again. This time I was
dragging a Terminal window around which was running "top" while the
machine was under load (load average between 4 and 5). I didn't cross
monitors so that's probably a red herring.

Everything froze, but by switching to VT 1 and back (Ctrl-Alt-F1, Ctrl-
Alt-F7) I was able to regain control by relaunching unity with
LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1 from that window.

I am sure I didn't have this problem just a week or two ago, sorry I
can't be more specific other than that I am running 13.04.

it seems like the ppa needs to transition to the new gnome-online-
account soname that got uploaded to trusty this week

> Yes, gnome-control-center-unity is obsoleted by these changes, we are

The new g-c-c and u-c-c should Conflicts on gnome-control-center-unity
since neither the binary works with neither of those

Bug description:
Ubuntu/Unity uses GNOME Control Center as the application to configure
the Unity session. We've made a lot of changes appropriate for Ubuntu
and Unity (61 patches) which makes it hard to maintain and creates a
conflict for Ubuntu GNOME to use the control center. Unity 7 will be
replaced by Unity 8 in the future which has a new settings interface.

So we can continue to remain on the current version of GNOME Control
Center but allow Ubuntu GNOME to continue to update we will create a
new project lp:unity-control-center which is a copy of GNOME Control
Center 3.6 but with appropriate renaming so both can be installed.

A number of packages that refer to gnome-control-center need to be
updated to refer to unity-control-center (see bug tasks).

A PPA for testing is https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-desktop/+archive
  /unity-control-center

[Dx-packages] [Bug 932900] Re: Unity freeze, crashes when trying to restart - GPU lockup with IPEHR: 0x7a000002

2013-12-11 Thread David Huggins-Daines
This reliably happens to me when dragging a firefox window from one
monitor to another in 13.04. As above, unity --replace fails and I have
to reboot the computer to make it work again. It seems to have started
just a week or two ago.

Hardware/software info:

Dell Latitude E6410
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Core Processor
Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0046] (rev 02)

ii libgl1-mesa-dri:amd64 9.1.7-1ubuntu2

ii xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.21.6-0ubuntu4.3
 amd64X.Org X server -- Intel i8xx, i9xx display driver

In dmesg, I see:

[ 280.763186] [drm:i915_hangcheck_hung] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU
hung
[ 280.763195] [drm] capturing error event; look for more information in

[ 282.750275] [drm:i915_reset] *ERROR* Failed to reset chip.

I'm not sure how to see /debug/dri/0/i915_error_state - is there a
/debug filesystem I can mount or something?

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1257505] Re: Create Unity Control Center so can remain on old GNOME Control Center version

2013-12-11 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
I've recently build unity-contol-center on my own to test a patch that
adds option for always showing the global menu (it also needs patched
Unity).

https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/682788 (that patches are
attached here)

When I tried to install those packages there was one conflict with
gnome-control-center-unity package so I removed it and installed u-c-c
without removing other gnome-control-center packages.

Bug description:
After every boot (or logout – login), the dash is (almost opaque)

again) to make the dash appear colored.

This happens since the first day of 13.10. This bug appears to be very
similar to bug #1017164, but it didn't occur to me in 12.10 and for me
the launcher and panel are perfectly colored and transparent.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1257505] Re: Create Unity Control Center so can remain on old GNOME Control Center version

2013-12-11 Thread Doug McMahon
@Seb - I guess it's just caused by the current state of ppa & all will be
better when released..
$ apt-cache policy gnome-control-center
gnome-control-center:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 1:3.8.6-0ubuntu1+unity

 1:3.6.3-0ubuntu49 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/main amd64 Packages

That version is not installable due to
 gnome-control-center : Depends: libgoa-1.0-0 (>= 3.7.90) but it is not
installable

Sorry then, I guess I'm missing something.
Atm if I install u-c-c, ect it removes g-c-c so 'co-existence' isn't
possible, that's to change?

These were removed when u-c-c was installed

Removed the following packages:
gnome-control-center
gnome-control-center-datetime
gnome-control-center-signon
gnome-control-center-unity
ubuntu-desktop

no, it's the opposite, it means each desktop can have its version which
reduces conflicts (they are co-installable)

what do you mean? the fork is create to reduce issues in Gs session (e.g
allow to drop unity hacks under GNOME and let GNOME use a more recent
version than the one that is adapted to Unity)

While not a big deal, if so I suspect you'll get a number of bug reports from

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1078075] Re: Unity laucher leaves a trace when autohide is enabled (using llvmpipe acceleration)

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1179210 ***

I'm marking this as a duplicate of bug #1179210 since that is the bug I
used to mark the fix on this. The fix is in the upstream code and the
Distro team will work on getting this in the Unity package.

This is a forward of the Ubuntu bug https://launchpad.net/bugs/1259562

The guest session feature provided by lightdm has resulted in files for
deleted temporary guest users being kept in the cache dir. To fix this,
we are about to patch src/daemon.c so it deletes such files, and not
just reports their existence in the log.

Since users may be deleted in a number of various ways without
accountsservice being notified, we think it would be a good idea to make
this change upstream.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 748539] Re: Multi-monitor - Panel and launcher visible on top of multimonitor non-focused fullscreen apps

2013-12-11 Thread Random
May please I request that it's put into unity 6 as well?

The issue means terminal windows as well as a list of running applications is
visible from the lock screen.
For 12.04 LTS, which is likely to be installed in large companies, this could
be a security risk.

When an app is fullscreen (fullscreen, not maximized) on a monitor,

I appreciate this probably isn't a priority, but for a future release

  Desired solution:

  - When an app is fullscreen (fullscreen, not maximized) on a monitor,
but another program is focused on the other monitor, the unity menu
bar should not be displayed on the monitor that is displaying the
  fullscreen app.

  - When fixing this bug, also look at bug #1065425

  WORKAROUND FOR THIS BUG:
Turn "Always On Top" on via right-clicking the titlebar of your window,

This will prevent the Unity panel from rendering on top of this

either originally logged in, or clicked the calendar before.
  4) Hide it, and show it once more. The calendar now shows the correct date.

The conflicting visual data can be very confusing if you only summon

[Dx-packages] [Bug 367947] Re: Notifications appear in non-visible area of multi-head desktop

Notifications appear in non-visible area of multi-head desktop

Status in Notify OSD:

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: notify-osd

I use xrandr to configure a multi-head display -- a main LCD screen and a
TV-out.
In order to keep within my video card's 2048x2048 virtual display size for 3D
acceleration, I stack my screens vertically in the virtual display, with the
smaller screen on top.

Also, I have a single gnome panel at the bottom of my LCD screen.

Without the top gnome panel (if I understand correctly), notify-osd
defaults to placing the notifications at the top right of the display.
However, for me, this is either a non-visible area, or a TV screen
that is across the room from me (and most likely not even turned on).

Re-arranging the screens side-by-side 'fixes' things, but at the cost
of 3d acceleration (the virtual display is now greater than my card's
  2048x2048 limit).

If there is no top panel, any arrangement of screens with differing
resolutions that leaves a 'dead area' at the top right will trigger
  this issue.

I don't now if this is GtkScrolledWindow or overlay scrollbars bug.

I got these warning in Totem Movie Player.

  Test case:

Open totem -> Fill with items playlist panel from right of player
until scrollbar show-up -> scroll to bottom of panel -> import more
playlist items from playlist file, and this warning come out:

  (totem:4060): Gtk-WARNING **: GtkScrolledWindow 0xb81ef2b0 is mapped
but visible child GtkScrollbar 0xb82bc2a8 is not mapped

This bug appears to Rhythmbox Music Player if import playlist items
  from file:

  (rhythmbox:4149): Gtk-WARNING **: RBPropertyView 0x9ee8000 is mapped
but visible child GtkScrollbar 0xa08fe90 is not mapped
