[Dx-packages] [Bug 1260604] Re: GDM does not work with new accountsservice 0.6.35-0ubuntu5

2013-12-13 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
I installed GDM, and can confirm the reported problem. It's due to the changes
in version 0.6.35-0ubuntu3:

Actually the X will not start and there is no login screen available, only

Login from tty1 is of course possible, but startx will not work.

I have tested this with gnome-shell and gdm with both trusty official
versions and the versions in the Gnome3 Staging PPA (trusty branch).
Also, I have tested this with ATI open source drivers and NVidia proprietary
drivers.
  None of these work.

Downgrading back to the version acoountsservice 0.6.35-0ubuntu2 helps
  and desktop is fine again.

Bug description:
Using Saucy 13.10, when using KDE applications launched from the Dash,
they do not show up as 'Recently used' neither in the Home or
  Applications lenses.

Seems zeitgeist or the information presented to it cannot get the path
to the KDE application's *.desktop file.

Using 'konsole' as a KDE application example:

  ~ $ /usr/libexec/zeitgeist-fts --log-level=DEBUG
  ** (zeitgeist-fts:28799): DEBUG: zeitgeist-fts.vala:106: got insertion
notification
** (zeitgeist-fts:28799): DEBUG: Indexing event with ID: 6382
** (zeitgeist-fts:28799): WARNING **: Unable to get info on
application://konsole.desktop

This happens because 'konsole.desktop' resides in
  /usr/share/applications/kde4/konsole.desktop

If I symlink or copy 'konsole.desktop' to
/usr/share/applications/konsole.desktop, then everything works as it
should, zeitgeist index's the event correctly and Konsole shows under
'Recently used' for Home and Applications lenses.

level gnome system settings menu.
  3. sudo apt-get install gnome-fallback-session

[Dx-packages] [Bug 733349] Re: Minimize Application's Windows upon clicking its Launcher Icon

  mlaverdiere's futher addition:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/733349/comments/2

My suggestion would be to modify the interaction-design/process like
  this (*=my modification proposal/2 cents!):

  1) start it, if it hasn't been started yet;
  *2) restore it, if it is minimized;
  *3) focus the app, if it's started, not minimized and has not the focus yet;
  4) spread windows (of app), if app is focused and has multiple windows open;
*5) minimize it if it is in spread-mode (see 4).

Note that this bug has over 300 comments and several working but
rejected patches. This means that this feature probably will never
land in official Unity! So if you want it, you have to use a patched
  version of Unity.

There is a working patch for 13.04 ( from comment #322,
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-
  design/+bug/733349/+attachment/3573380/+files/minimize.patch ).
Somebody should set up a PPA (and note it here) to make it easy to

[Dx-packages] [Bug 734908] Re: Unity is visible on top of fullscreen apps

2013-12-13 Thread quequotion
Last year I did some work in unityshell.cpp to make it actually honour
the window order and pretend that its input windows were real ones.

Do you recall a specific release version in which those changes were
working?

I'd like to try it out, since I have never seen unity /not/ having this
problem.

  ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION:
In natty alpha 3 up to date, I cannot get fullscreen in any application.
Panels are still visible.

  Tested with:
  - totem
  - vlc
  - firefox
  - chrome
  - geany

Unity panel and top bar are always on top.

  Desired Solution:

  - When a window is fullscreen (note: this should not be confused with
the *maximised* state) the menu bar should not be displayed.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1260604] Re: GDM does not work with new accountsservice 0.6.35-0ubuntu5

2013-12-13 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
After having installed 0.6.35-0ubuntu6~trusty2, I could successfully log
in with GDM.

These are the accountsservice deb files on my box:
- accountsservice
- gir1.2-accountsservice-1.0
- libaccountsservice-dev
- libaccountsservice0

Bug description:
Gdm does not work with the latest accountsservice versions 0.6.35-0ubuntu3 -
0.6.35-0ubuntu5.
Actually the X will not start and there is no login screen available, only
black screen.

Downgrading back to the version acoountsservice 0.6.35-0ubuntu2 helps
  and desktop is fine again.

don't you need to clean up the icon too?

Aside from that, I wonder if we'll run into bug reports after this where
users lose their settings after a domain controller blip.

Maybe it should avoid cleaning up remote users?

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1259562]

2013-12-13 Thread Rstrode
I like this patch. Two requests, if you don't mind:

1) Can you make it in git-format-patch format so it has a commit message, etc ?
2) Can you do one preliminary clean up patch before this one that moves the
existing cases where the cache files are removed into a standalone function,
then change this patch to call that function? This sort of clean up is
repeated in two places already, it'd be good to drop the duplication rather
than add a third place.

black screen.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1260370] Re: multiarch libaccountsservice-dev

2013-12-13 Thread Anders Kaseorg
This broke the gdm greeter, making it impossible to log in. See bug
1260896.

Title:
multiarch accountsservice moved typelib to wrong path, broke gdm
  greeter

Status in “accountsservice” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Yesterday’s multiarch of accountsservice 0.6.35-0ubuntu3 (bug 1260370)
broke the gdm greeter, making it impossible to log in. From
  /var/log/gdm/:0-greeter.log:

  (gnome-shell:1981): Gjs-WARNING **: JS ERROR: Error: Requiring
AccountsService, version none: Typelib file for namespace 'AccountsService'
(any version) not found
  @/usr/share/gnome-shell/js/ui/endSessionDialog.js:25
  @/usr/share/gnome-shell/js/ui/main.js:15
  @main:1

In order to work around this, I had to symlink
  /usr/lib/girepository-1.0/AccountsService-1.0.typelib -
  /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-
  gnu/girepository-1.0/AccountsService-1.0.typelib.

As far as I can tell, gir has no multiarch support (see e.g.
http://bugs.debian.org/720071), so the typelib needs to be moved back
into /usr/lib/girepository-1.0 and ‘Multi-Arch: same’ needs to be
  dropped.
