I like this patch. Two requests, if you don't mind: 1) Can you make it in git-format-patch format so it has a commit message, etc ? 2) Can you do one preliminary clean up patch before this one that moves the existing cases where the cache files are removed into a standalone function, then change this patch to call that function? Actually the X will not start and there is no login screen available, only black screen. Login from tty1 is of course possible, but startx will not work. I have tested this with gnome-shell and gdm with both trusty official versions and the versions in the Gnome3 Staging PPA (trusty branch). Also, I have tested this with ATI open source drivers and NVidia proprietary drivers. None of these work. Downgrading back to the version acoountsservice 0.6.35-0ubuntu2 helps and desktop is fine again. From /var/log/gdm/:0-greeter.log: (gnome-shell:1981): Gjs-WARNING **: JS ERROR: Error: Requiring AccountsService, version none: Typelib file for namespace 'AccountsService' (any version) not found @/usr/share/gnome-shell/js/ui/endSessionDialog.js:25 @/usr/share/gnome-shell/js/ui/main.js:15 @main:1 In order to work around this, I had to symlink /usr/lib/girepository-1.0/AccountsService-1.0.typelib - /usr/lib/x86_64-linux- gnu/girepository-1.0/AccountsService-1.0.typelib. As far as I can tell, gir has no multiarch support (see e.g. http://bugs.debian.org/720071), so the typelib needs to be moved back into /usr/lib/girepository-1.0 and ‘Multi-Arch: same’ needs to be dropped.
