[Dx-packages] [Bug 1283981] [NEW] Multi-monitor: wrong screen layout in desktop wall
Public bug reported: I have configured my main screen on the left and a smaller screen to the right. However when I press Super+S to show all desktops I get the primary (bigger) screen on the right and the smaller on the left (see attached screenshot). The outputs are effectively swapped. This leads to the ugly effect for which I'm attaching a video. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1283979] [NEW] moving windows causes the top bar and the launcher bar to flicker
Public bug reported: As the title says, when I grab a window and move it around the top bar and the launcher disappear and then re-appear. Unity does not crash. During the move these elements flicker on and off. It looks more like a graphical glitch. This seems to have started after I got the packages that introduced the anti-aliased window corners. [Dx-packages] [Bug 974480] Re: Notification area whitelist is obsolete
Ed, as Paul Sladen explained in 2013-02-09, the notification area was basically a set of tiny windows: a program could put anything in its window, responding to clicks, right-clicks, double-clicks, drags, or anything else, and doing anything in response, including opening menus in any toolkit. As a simple example (unfortunately common on Windows), an item might open one menu on left-click and a different menu on right- click, with some of the items in those two menus being the same. Even if you came up with heuristics for merging two menus, there's no practical way that a hypothetical Ubuntu component could tell, ahead of time, that either action *would* open a menu, rather than, say, disconnect your Voip call. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Since then users that wish this could easily adjust in metacity-1. Now that's gone with the unity-window decorator. Dark windows look bad with the light grey? 1 px. border, particuarly some video players, gnome-terminal ect. (I understand that without a border 2 overlaping terminals may be weird but overall borderless looks better in general use Or at the least somehow color it something less obvious distracting. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1281368] Re: Decorations: windows should have 0px (bottom and side) borders
@JohnLea, ah, nice if you want to increase the Shadows size as well... You basically have to edit the variable defined in /usr/share/themes/Ambiance/gtk-3.0/apps/unity.css and switch theme (doing Ambiance - Radiance - Ambiance) from unity control center (unfortunately gtk doesn't notify us when a theme file has changed, so you have to force this in this way). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Unfortunately, I cannot test anything because right upon booting, when the desktop appears, every app I start causes about a minute of freezing (even the mouse pointer freezes) and then a restart (or complete crash) of the unity top menubar and sidebar. The only thing in the desktop I customized was the Unity sidebar button size (in the settings app - to 16 pixels first, then to 24 pixels). But even the settings app caused this crash before I could use it to change the settings. I am writing this in a 640x480 Firefox window without window manager from within the crashed Unity desktop. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1281806] Re: Alt-Tab switcher regularly goes into flicker loop of death or just hangs
I just observed this flicker loop of death while closing a Thunderbird message window. I chose Send, and after the dialog with the progress bar got to 100%, both the dialog and the message window started flickering madly and the whole session became unusable. I suspect this is related to the Alt-Tab switcher, as the symptoms are visually similar, and in both cases it appears to occur when a window *should* be disappearing. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Matching subscriptions: dx-packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1281806 Title: Alt-Tab switcher regularly goes into flicker loop of death or just hangs Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Recently when doing Alt-Tab (and Alt-`) to switch between windows, the rectangle display showing the icons for all the applications and windows will suddenly start flickering rapidly and the whole X sessions will become unresponsive to keypresses and mouse actions. Sometimes instead of flickering, the Alt-Tab display will simply fail to appear and the same unresponsive X session results. This seems to happen very frequently during the course of a day. When it happens, my only recourse is to press Ctrl-Alt-F2 to get a text console, log in, and run killall compiz and then DISPLAY=:0 metacity to kill the hung window manager and start a new one. (I tried running DISPLAY=:0 compiz from VT2, but that doesn't seem to start compiz in a fully functional manner.) I'm reporting this from a system with an NVidia card, but I experience the same thing on another system using an ATI Radeon HD 7970/R9 280X card, so I don't think it's video-driver specific. Needless to say, this makes Unity pretty hard to use effectively. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1282342] Re: compiz crashes with segfault after recent updates
I had the trusty daily iso from 2014.02.15. It installs and runs fine. I'm saying that this issue was introduced on approximately 2014.02.16 or 2014.02.17 The bug 1283671 referred to above says 2014.02.21, but I think it was a few days prior. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Things are fine after I log in and until I try to do something. Then compiz will crash and my system becomes unusable. I do have sshd running and can connect via ssh to re-boot or shurdown or get new updates are whatever. This bug report is being sent while logged on with GNOME shell, which also has been having issues since January 17th, ( see bug 1273276 ) but there is a workaround that allows me to use it. For the last few days, I see log entries in both kern.log and syslog saying about compiz complaing about segfaults. Everything was working fine for unity log in until a few days ago. (well, and as expected during the development phase, there have been issues.) [Dx-packages] [Bug 1199877] Re: unity-panel-service memory leak and 100% CPU usage
Not so much CPU usage here, but leak is confirmed (I have the issue since the release of 13.10 ...), at the end of they day memory usage (according to top) is about 6-10% on a machine with 2Gbyte RAM. If I kill the process, it relaunches and uses much less memory, below 1%, but again it sightly increasing with time. So I have to kill it about some times within a day to be able to work without heavy swapping. However as I've told, not so much CPU is consumed here, I have no problem with that at least. 13.10 on x86 32 bit. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Memory usage of unity- panel-service increases steadily and it uses a lot of CPU shortly after activating the menu items in a short time. Regression potential: check that the menus are stable/working as they should - Just going about my business on Ubuntu Raring amd64 on an x230 and I heard the fan kick into action. top showed me that unity-panel-service was consuming all the free cycles on one of my CPUs. I killed it before my machine overheated, so I didn't attach a debugger to see why it was totally pegging out a CPU. [Dx-packages] [Bug 733349] Re: Minimize Application's Windows upon clicking its Launcher Icon
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Ayatana design team, development team, whoever is in charge of overseeing this subject! I beg of you, in the nicest way i can possibly ask, please fix this issue. This single issue is the bane of my existence, i cant seem to adjust but i was able too in 12.04 BECAUSE it had this feature. This was the key feature that made me turn away from windows and even mac because it was a complete system, it had all the functionality that i needed to be very very productive. I EVEN HAD ONE OF MY COLLEGE PROFESSORS TRY THIS OUT, EVEN HE SAID IT WAS AMAZING! but now this feature is gone and i find Ubuntu clunky and hard to use because of all the screen clutter that exists. Like the bug description says, that design would be perfect, but if that is too hard to implement, at least give us the benefit of the doubt by just adding this feature to single windows instead of a window stack. I can try to live with this and id be more than happy to return to Ubuntu. This shouldn't be hard to do since i had this implemented on a 13.04 install but it was buggy cause unity didn't agree with this modification so ultimately it was unusable but regardless this feature would make 14.04 perfect. I know i speak for a lot of people when i say that this would be ideal in terms of functionality. I already feel that unity is nice in that it offers a different desktop experience but one that is well thought out in terms of functionality, however this one simple issue, to me, has caused its use to be difficult even new users find it hard to use because they normally come from windows and mac and say why doesn't the launcher minimize my app, that doesn't make any sense! Then they tell me they don't like it and want to go back to windows, myself included. So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! I will join a design team if i have to, i will gladly contribute to this cause, i am a computer science graduate so i know i can at least be of some assistance. Also kudos on the integrated menu, i was amazed by that cause i didn't think there was a way to make it better, but you continue to amaze. Now if we can just get this one little tiny thing in there it'd be PERFECT! Thank you Ubuntu team for all of your hard work in designing probably THE nicest desktop environment in the world, and to make it even better, its free! for this i thank you! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu.
