What I do miss in Unity is the possibility to click on the app. icon on the

launch/restore it.
  mlaverdiere's futher addition:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/733349/comments/2

My suggestion would be to modify the interaction-design/process like
  this (*=my modification proposal/2 cents!):

  1) start it, if it hasn't been started yet;
  *2) restore it, if it is minimized;
  *3) focus the app, if it's started, not minimized and has not the focus yet;
  4) spread windows (of app), if app is focused and has multiple windows open;
*5) minimize it if it is in spread-mode (see 4).

Note that this bug has over 300 comments and several working but
rejected patches. This means that this feature probably will never
land in official Unity! So if you want it, you have to use a patched
  version of Unity.

There is a working patch for 13.04 ( from comment #322,
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-
  design/+bug/733349/+attachment/3573380/+files/minimize.patch ).
Somebody should set up a PPA (and note it here) to make it easy to
  install the patched version.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1285614] [NEW] Mouse click offset

2014-02-27 Thread Franck
Public bug reported:

In trusty, I have seen an old bug coming back: my mouse clicks suffer
from an offset compared to what I see on screen.

This is very similar to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/772612 but happening now
in Trusty.
This seems to happen after compiz somehow restarts spontaneously...

I am conscious this is not a very usable bug report, but I have seen
this happening 3 or 4 times in the last 2 days on my system, so I though
it was worth reporting...

[Dx-packages] [Bug 861171] Re: Shutdown from greeter does nothing when multiple accounts open

2014-02-27 Thread Simon Steinbeiß
This bug doesn't affect lightdm-gtk-greeter anymore. Currently (1.8
series) users can shutdown a machine from the greeter, but the shutdown-
dialog shows a warning that there are still users logged in and that
there is the chance for data-loss.

** Changed in: lightdm-gtk-greeter

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * A user tries to shut down their machine. They get confused because nothing
happens
     when they click shutdown.
   * If someone else is logged in, they will have to ask that person to Switch
User to
     log in and log out
   * If someone else is logged in and you don't know the password of the
account, you
     can't shut down

  [Test Case]

   * Have two login accounts
   * Log both people in, via power cog-lock screen-switch user
   * lock the screen on current account, via power cog-lock screen
   * get back to lightdm via switch user
   * log in to an already logged in account, and try to power off the machine

  [Regression Potential]

   * It wasn't possible to shutdown at all before
   * I can't see a case for a regression, since it never worked to begin with

  [Original Report]

Selecting shutdown from the greeter does nothing when multiple
  accounts are open.

This is because the lightdm user (which the greeter runs as) does not
have permission to shutdown while sessions are open. Inside a normal
session this would just return you to the login screen.

The solution is either for the indicator to say not allowed or to
run a PolicyKit frontend in the greeter than can get the required
  permissions to perform the shutdown.s

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1283236] Re: Alarms are triggered in UTC tz despite saving in local tz

We just agreed with renato that SDK Alarms will transform (not convert)
the alarm time into UTC value, and set them as alarm values. So the fix
will come from SDK.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Ensure that phone timezone is something other than UTC. For instance
eastern tz (UTC-5)
  2. Set an alarm for 3:00 PM in the ubuntu clock app.
  3. Indicator shows a pending alarm for 3:00 PM
  4. Check a minute or so later, indicator shows an alarm pending for 8:00 PM

  What happens:
The alarm does not go off at 3:00 PM. Instead it triggers at 8:00 PM

The alarm is triggered at 3:00 PM

Ideally we would want alarms to all be floating times; ie, an alarm set
to go off on Feb 28 at 6am would be DTSTART:20140228T06 with no
trailing zulu on the timestamp, and with no TZID parameter in the entry.

Alarms are triggered in UTC tz despite saving in local tz

Status in Ubuntu UI Toolkit:

Bug description:
Setting an alarm in the local timezone is not respected by the system
since the alarms is triggered in the equivalent UTC timezone.

  Mako build 200, 205

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Ensure that phone timezone is something other than UTC. For instance
eastern tz (UTC-5)
  2. Set an alarm for 3:00 PM in the ubuntu clock app.
  3. Indicator shows a pending alarm for 3:00 PM
  4. Check a minute or so later, indicator shows an alarm pending for 8:00 PM

  What happens:
The alarm does not go off at 3:00 PM. Instead it triggers at 8:00 PM

  What should happen:
The alarm is triggered at 3:00 PM

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1285917] [NEW] Inconsistent click-drag behaviour between global and local menus

2014-02-27 Thread Alan Pope ㋛
Public bug reported:

With global menu in top bar, click (without unclicking) a menu and drag down to
choose a menu item.
Now enable locally integrated menus and maximise an application then do the
same.

I've observed the behaviour is inconsistent.

With global menu: Menu opens
With LIM: Window detaches from being maximised.

This makes it slower using LIM as you can't click and drag down to open
a menu, you have to click/release then slide down and click again.

Title:
14.04 daily build (2014-02-21): unity desktop crashes on every
  application start

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I installed the 14.04 daily build from a CD image yesterday to help
testing. Unfortunately, I cannot test anything because right upon
booting, when the desktop appears, every app I start causes about a
minute of freezing (even the mouse pointer freezes) and then a restart
(or complete crash) of the unity top menubar and sidebar.

The only thing in the desktop I customized was the Unity sidebar
button size (in the settings app - to 16 pixels first, then to 24
pixels). But even the settings app caused this crash before I could
use it to change the settings.

I am writing this in a 640x480 Firefox window without window manager
from within the crashed Unity desktop.

Is this a known bug? I sure hope so. ;)

In 14.04, I believe after the update adding Locally Integrated Menus

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1283236] Re: Alarms are triggered in UTC tz despite saving in local tz

2014-02-27 Thread Zsombor Egri
I meant transform the local hour into exactly same UTC time (i.e. 3:00am
UTC+2 onto 3:00am UTC). Would this be good enough? Or would this still
contain TZ info?

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Ensure that phone timezone is something other than UTC. For instance
eastern tz (UTC-5)
  2. Set an alarm for 3:00 PM in the ubuntu clock app.
  3. Indicator shows a pending alarm for 3:00 PM
  4. Check a minute or so later, indicator shows an alarm pending for 8:00 PM

  What happens:
The alarm does not go off at 3:00 PM. Instead it triggers at 8:00 PM

  What should happen:
The alarm is triggered at 3:00 PM
