It would be useful if you closed this bug (by marking the Status as "Invalid")
and open a new one with
ubuntu-bug unity

To get more information about your graphical setup.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1289907] [NEW] LIM flickers when dragging a window and mouse cursor moves over title bar

2014-03-08 Thread Thibaut Brandscheid
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 14.04

How it should be:
When moving a window by grabbing the title bar the LIM should know that the
window is currently being dragged and not show up until the drag action is

If a window is moved by grabbing its title bar the LIM flickers (LIM gets
displayed and is quickly hidden) when the mouse cursor moves above or
underneath the window title bar.

Title:
Super-W sometimes opens the dash instead of showing all windows

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
The Super-W keystroke sometimes opens the dash instead of showing all
windows. The behavior seems to depend on how long you hold down the
super key. Tapping + releasing both the super key and w key will open
the dash. Holding down the super key for more than about 0.5sec will
open the spread, no matter how long you hold down the w key.

Oddly I can't reproduce the problem with other super- keystrokes such
as Super-S or Super-T. It only happens with Super-W. A quick tap of
Super-S will reliably open expo mode.

  To reproduce:
  1) Quickly tap Super-W

  Expected results:
  The spread opens

  Actual results:
  The dash opens

I can reproduce this on multiple keyboards from different
manufacturers, so I don't think it's anything unique to the keyboard
  itself.

previously mentioned bug reports, and it is fixed.

Open a large image in the GIMP and activate a lot of items from the
global menu. Using shortcuts is enough and faster to reproduce this
bug (I've always used Ctrl+A and Ctrl+Shift+A). Memory usage of unity-
panel-service increases steadily and it uses a lot of CPU shortly
after activating the menu items in a short time.

Regression potential: check that the menus are stable/working as they
  should

  -
Just going about my business on Ubuntu Raring amd64 on an x230 and I heard
the fan kick into action. top showed me that unity-panel-service was consuming
all the free cycles on one of my CPUs. I killed it before my machine
overheated, so I didn't attach a debugger to see why it was totally pegging out
a CPU.

I'm not sure if this adds any context, but I was using a LibreOffice
spreadsheet and I could not insert a table because the menu had lost
it's mind, and then I observed the overly loaded CPU a very short
  while after that.

I think Chris is right; what's happening here is that location is being

You can disable this from the control-center settings just as he
suggests.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 890271] Re: Timezone bug in event list for ICAL events

2014-03-08 Thread Charles Kerr
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if
you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test
it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running
apport-collect and any other logs that are relevant for this
particular issue.

If this is still an issue in a currently supported version of Ubuntu,
could you please also attach a sample ical file that produces the
timezone error? That would help for testing and, in future, regression
testing.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1289820] [NEW] 'Move to Another Workspace' causes window to disappear

2014-03-08 Thread Jesse Johnson
Public bug reported:

When using the 'Move to Another Workspace' right-click option on a
window, the window disappears from the current workspace, but is not
present in any other workspace. It effectively is no longer accessible,
though it can still be killed. Disabling workspaces does not cause the
lost window to reappear, but setting the number of desktops to 1 in CCSM
> General Options > Desktop Size > Number of Desktops does the trick and
the window reappears.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1289719] [NEW] Wifi Problem HP DV7 After Windows 7 Dual Boot Installation

2014-03-08 Thread Mike Garner
Public bug reported:

Background Info, how the problem came about:

I am writing on behalf of a customer/friend who I've wiped Windows 7 in
yet another ugly mess that I come across often (Windows in general), backed up
user files' and reinstalled with “13.10, Saucy Salamander”. I myself run
Gentoo, but it's not for everybody. I will get straight to the point. He wants
his Locomotive Train Simulation Games to work. I do not like the idea of him
running Windows software under Linux (WINE), and know that can be buggy as well
working half-*** or not at all.

So what I did is, I took a Linux Live DVD (USB actually) and ran
Gparted, resized the only partition (1 Primary, no swap needed with the
amount of ram), and made the free space before the Ext4 Partition for
Linux, and placed an NTFS Partition that would be /dev/sda1. I am doing
everything possible to prevent the Windows installer from doing anything
to wipe out Linux.

I then went to installing Windows 7. Upon reaching the
partitioner, it recognized the newly created NTFS Partition, and I had
it install there. Yes, knowingly, it would wipe out the MBR of Grub2
with it's own BS that I later fixed using some Gentoo skills (refer to
the Gentoo Handbook if interested).

Skip ahead...

Windows 7 and Linux are now both dual booting just fine with Grub2.
However, a problem exists with Wifi working under Linux. I have a couple
of options:

1. Solve the problem myself, reconfigure make menuconfig, patch if necessary,
etc. etc., or
2. Make a bug report, so that when updates come in through Ubuntu Repositories,
the issue is fixed and remains fixed not only for this customer, but all others
that run into the problem and would run into the problem if a bug fix had not
been made.

Problem in More Detail:

Boot Linux to GUI desktop. Automatic connecting to the WPA2 Wireless Network by
Network Manager does not happen. Then go into Network Manager's Settings and
find out

Airplane mode is enabled. It will toggle off. Wireless is toggled off,
and refuses to toggle on.

Temporary workaround that gets around the issue:

Suspend the computer in Linux (did so through the GUI), and wake it from
Suspend. Now everything works and behaves as expected, but the problem
will persist after a reboot.

Troubleshooting:

Check dmesg # // /* Attachment of dmesg output below */
sudo passwd root
su -
mike-HP-Pavilion-dv7-Notebook-PC BugReport # rfkill list
0: phy0: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: Yes
rfkill unblock wifi # Check with list again, same results
rfkill unblock all# Same as above
rfkill block all
rfkill unblock all# Same results still persist
halt/poweroff/reboot
# Booted back up in no time on this ssd drive, command line again
su -
dmesg > dmesg_before
# Suspend work-around mentioned earlier
dmesg > dmesg_after
# Examine with the best editor known to existence, SORRY EMACS FANS!
vimdiff dmesg_before dmesg_after # Files are included as attachments
