Unity does not get touch events when QML apps running

Bug description:
When running an SDK app on the desktop, it's not possible to use the
touchscreen to move windows, use the launcher, etc. The SDK app seems
  to consume all touchscreen events.

  To reproduce:
  1) On a desktop/laptop with a touchscreen (I am using a Dell XPS13), install
14.04 and check that the touchscreen works for moving windows
  2) Install the camera-app package from universe (I have
2.9.1+14.04.20140331-0ubuntu1)
  3) Launch the camera app
  4) Touch once inside the camera-app window
  5) Use the touchscreen to drag the camera-app window

  Expected results:
You can move the camera-app window using the touchscreen

  Actual results:
You cannot move the camera-app window, or perform any other touch tasks in
unity, with the touchscreen

This only affects touchscreen input - mouse/touchpad input is not
  affected

This affects all apps written with the SDK (I tried camera-app,
  gallery-app, reminders-app). It's 100% reproducible.

There is a really easy way to replicate this bug:
  * Open a video in Totem
  * Set Totem to Always on Top
  * Make Totem full screen
  * Manually Lock the screen using Super+L
  * Notice that the lockscreen is hidden by totem.

If you don't lock it manually and just pause the video and let it lock

In 13.10 DOWN scroll with pointer hovering over multiple launcher icon would
go through application's (1) windows and if there maxmized window of other app
(2), only one instance of (1) will be displayed over (2).
Scroll UP would bring all windows of (1) over (2) one-by-one.

But now, in 14.04, scolling UP does exactly what DOWN works, just in
  another direction.

Thats bad desing, because now is impossible to bring up multiple win.
  of app quickly.

For instance, I have maximized and focused Firefox open, and 2 windows of
Nautilus behind. Now, I want to copy files from one folder to other by
drag-and-drop.
   - What WOULD I do is: 2 scrolls UP hovering Nautilus launcher icon, and do
copying (because both windows are in front of Firefox).
   - What I NOW need to do. Click or one scroll to bring up one window of
Nautlis, now Click AGAIN to app spread, and select other window!!

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1310518] Re: Touch screen and touchpad lost click function after quickly tapped dash home repeatly by touch screen

2014-05-05 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
This bug can be reproduced using evemu-tools.

I recorded an event sequence which can introduced the bug (but not all
the time):

$ sudo apt-get install evemu-tools

$ sudo evemu-device s.prop

this will create a new device /dev/input/event# (# is the number showed
in the terminal)

$ sudo evemu-play /dev/input/event#  s.event

Expect behavior: nothing happens.

Actually behavior: Touchscreen/Trackpad/Mouse cursor works fine, but it can no
longer clicks.
press keyboard Alt+Tab can make click work again.

Bug description:
When installing Ubuntu and selecting Simplified Chinese as the default
language, the default timezone should point to Beijing instead of
Shanghai. Everything in China is referenced to Beijing time. In
mainland China this standard time is called Beijing Time (北京时间)
domestically but it is commonly referred to as China Standard Time
  (CST) internationally.

This seems to have come up a lot in past bugs:

  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tzdata/+bug/228554
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/517621

  Steps to recreate:

  1) Install Ubuntu and select Simplified Chinese for the language.

  Actual Results:
At the timezone page, the default city is Shanghai.

  Expected Results:
Most Chinese users prefer it be set to Beijing.

It looks as if the upstream tz database needs to be updated for
Beijing for starters, as Beijing is not listed in there.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1308985] Re: Parts of Unity are becoming invisible after taking a timed screenshot of the Alt-Tab screen

2014-05-05 Thread Dan

Title:
Parts of Unity are becoming invisible after taking a timed screenshot
  of the Alt-Tab screen

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I wanted to take a screen-shot of my desktop while the application
  switcher (Alt+Tab) is opened.

Obviously, tapping the Prt Sc key would not work, (Most likely
because I have to keep the Alt key pressed, to keep the the
Application Switcher visible). So I used the gnome-screenshot app.

This is what I did, and steps to reproduce the problem.

  - Kept the default selection (Grab the whole screen), and set a delay of 3
seconds.
  - Press take screenshot
  - Press Alt-Tab and keep the Alt button pressed while waiting for the
screenshot to be taken
  - I might be wrong here but this bug only happens when the activated window
after taking the screenshot is maximized.
  - When the screenshot is taken, the window will appear which shows the
screenshot.
  - Release the Alt key.
  - At this point, Unity will be somewhat broken.
  * Pressing the Super key will no longer show the dashboard.
  * Pressing Alt-Tab doesn't show the Application switcher.

To fix it, I keep middle clicking with the mouse on the top bar to bring the
current window to the background. Until I reach the Screenshot.
After I close it, everything is turned back to normal.

I'm not sure if this is a bug in Unity or in Gnome Screenshot, but
since it only occurs with me while using the gnome-screenshot package,
  I filed the bug here.

Title:
  Close button unreachable in window

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Hi,

I'm not really sure of what triggers this behaviour, but, after some
time using a Ubuntu session, the window buttons (close, minimize,
maximize) are unreachable and unclickable - if I focus my mouse cursor
over them, they get hidden, and the window title shows up in front of
them, as if I wasn't hovering the window bar -. This only happens if I
hover the cursor on the corner of the window, however the window menu
and buttons are shown if I hover the menu options themselves.

A video with a demonstration of me reproducing this bug can be found here:
  http://ubuntuone.com/66peoJXeRekgsE6LzkDgvG
Notice how, exactly when I hover the upper left corner, they are replaced by
the window title.

This doesn't happen right in the start of the session; For instance,
if I restart my user session, they get back to working properly, but
there seems to be some application that somehow triggers this
behaviour. (One that I'm a bit suspected of is Choqok, as it's a KDE
application, and which I use in a regular basis.)

  Here are my specs:
  Description: Ubuntu 13.04
  Release: 13.04

Any ideas of what that might be?

  Cheers,

  Diogo

  Cheers,

  Diogo

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1307701] Re: Unity does not get touch events when QML apps running

2014-05-05 Thread Daniel d'Andrada
One thing that smells fishy is that the qml app starts getting touch
events even before compiz/unity7. I think that this should not happen as
the qml app does not subscribe for ownership events (unlike
compiz/unity7) and ownership is offered to compiz/unity7.

So the qml app should only get touch events once compiz/unity7 rejects
ownership of the touch sequence, but that's just not happening (qml app
was already receiving events from that touch sequence by that time).

Title:
Unity does not get touch events when QML apps running

Status in OEM Priority Project:
  New
Status in OEM Priority Project trusty series:

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
When running an SDK app on the desktop, it's not possible to use the
touchscreen to move windows, use the launcher, etc. The SDK app seems
  to consume all touchscreen events.

  To reproduce:
  1) On a desktop/laptop with a touchscreen (I am using a Dell XPS13), install
14.04 and check that the touchscreen works for moving windows
  2) Install the camera-app package from universe (I have
2.9.1+14.04.20140331-0ubuntu1)
  3) Launch the camera app
  4) Touch once inside the camera-app window
  5) Use the touchscreen to drag the camera-app window

  Expected results:
You can move the camera-app window using the touchscreen

  Actual results:
You cannot move the camera-app window, or perform any other touch tasks in
unity, with the touchscreen

This only affects touchscreen input - mouse/touchpad input is not
  affected

This affects all apps written with the SDK (I tried camera-app,
  gallery-app, reminders-app). It's 100% reproducible.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1316005] Re: Panel shadow appears over full screen applications

solution for this.

Title:
Panel shadow appears over full screen applications

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
The shadow of the top Unity panel draws over full screen applications
that have controls visible when the mouse is moved.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1) Open an image in Image Viewer
  2) Double click the image to full-screen it
  3) Move the mouse to the top of the screen to access the controls

  Expected behavior:

Only the image and the Image Viewer controls should be visible

  Acutal behavior:

The Unity panel shadow is drawn on top of the controls at the top of
  the screen

  Notes:

This also appears in the Videos application, but does not in VLC or
gimp. I believe it is GTK applications with UI elements that only
appear on mouse movement (gimp's UI is static, and I believe VLC is Qt
  based).

  1. Access any of the brightness sliders: in System Settings Brightness,
or System Settings Battery, or the Battery menu (bug 1289470).
  2. Rapidly slide the slider from minimum to maximum and back again, about ten
times, then let go.
  3. Wait.

What happens: The phone repeatedly dims and brightens over several
seconds after you stop touching the slider.

What should happen: The current brightness level is always either on,
or less than ~500 ms from reaching, the brightness shown by the slider
*right now*. Any values that the slider was on previously should be
  ignored.

Compare bug 1306499, the equivalent problem with the volume slider.

2014-05-05 Thread Stephen M. Webb
Another observation: I could not obtain the described symptoms unless I
had an application open (eg. the Terminal). This is true even when
using the attached evemu captures.

It's possible this bug is related to #1307701.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1316258] [NEW] The screen is not locked when the menus of the indicators are open

2014-05-05 Thread abePdIta
Public bug reported:

As mentioned in the summary, the screen is not locked when the menus of the
indicators are open.
Steps to reproduce:
- set screen timeout to 1 minute — OR — set no action when closing the laptop
lid;
- click on an indicator;
- wait — OR (according to the first action) — close the laptop lid;
- if the screen is off, move the mouse;
- you can see open windows and you can issue some commands (I succesfully
opened a terminal using ctrl+alt+T);
- if the indicator menu is closed, the screen is locked immediately after, but
it is just too late.

My system is up to date, so the right-click → alt+F2 trick doesn't work
anymore, for me.

** Affects: unity (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1316284] [NEW] Load/Unload Cycle Count

2014-05-05 Thread Kenan Gutić
Public bug reported:

I have a little a bit of a problem with my Ubuntu.
My Load/Unload Cycle Count is currently at 92125.

The problem is that Load/Unload Cycle Count get higher every time I use my
laptop on battery mode.
With AC it seems fine, but with battery in a matter of a few minutes (1-2) my
Load/Unload Cycle Count gets higer for 3 numbers.

I checked it on Windows, and it was at 92117. Then I booted in Ubuntu
and the number climed at 92121. I used laptop on AC for 20 minutes and
then it was at 92122. Then I unpluged AC, and used my laptop on battery
for few minutes and the number was at 92125. Then again on AC for 15
minutes and it was at 92125. So it gets high quickly on battery, very
quickly.

Also I hear scratching noise of HDD when Ubuntu opens Files, Firefox os
something like that.
On Windows I almost never hear that, only when doing something hard for HDD.

This is happening on my 750GB Seagate disk.
Running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS with Windows 7 dual boot.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1316311] [NEW] Unity launcher, top panel, and window titles flicker and disappear when clicking launcher for apps that have more than one instance running on it

2014-05-05 Thread James Nissen
Public bug reported:

I upgraded my laptop from Ubuntu 13.10 to 14.04, shortly after the
launch, and things were working pretty good. However, after a recent
software update, the 14.04 Unity launcher, top panel, and window titles
all flicker and disappear, when clicking the launcher for an application
that has multiple instances running (multiple left array indicators next
to launcher).

The first time I click the launcher, the whole desktop flickers, blanks
out, then comes back. The second time, everything but window contents
disappears. In this case, the window contents are unusable, and I have
to restart my laptop. This has become quite disruptive to my work day.

Title:
Unity launcher, top panel, and window titles flicker and disappear
when clicking launcher for apps that have more than one instance
  running on it

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I upgraded my laptop from Ubuntu 13.10 to 14.04, shortly after the
launch, and things were working pretty good. However, after a recent
software update, the 14.04 Unity launcher, top panel, and window
titles all flicker and disappear, when clicking the launcher for an
application that has multiple instances running (multiple left array
  indicators next to launcher).

The first time I click the launcher, the whole desktop flickers,
blanks out, then comes back. The second time, everything but window
contents disappears. In this case, the window contents are unusable,
and I have to restart my laptop. This has become quite disruptive to
  my work day.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1316265] Re: Maximized Window's Title Bar Does Not Merge into Menu Bar after Performing Super+E (window spread)

2014-05-05 Thread Malcolm Greaves
I noticed that this does not effect google-chrome. Though, that might
have more to do with the fact that google-chrome doesn't have a proper
title bar...

Title:
Maximized Window's Title Bar Does Not Merge into Menu Bar after
  Performing Super+E (window spread)

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
A maximized application's title bar does not merge into the menu bar
once a user has performed Super + E (window slide). Note that if one
does not do Super+E, then the bars to merge together. However, once
Super+E has been performed, this bug persists for the lifetime of the
windowed application. If the application is restarted after doing
Super+E, then the bug is gone. Thus, it seems like Super+E introduces
this bug for the lifetime of the windowed application.

Expected behavior: Maximized window's title bar is merged into menu bar.
Observed: Does not occur after Super+E is performed.

  Try this out using Terminal.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1316320] [NEW] Screen Lock does not prompt for password

2014-05-05 Thread Charlie Ott
Public bug reported:

I am using LTSP fat clients, created with:

$ sudo ltsp-build-image --arch amd64 --fat-client-desktop ubuntu-desktop

LTSP server has sssd authentication utilizing pam and ldap. Users can
log in without issue and the home folder is available. Everything works
as expected except for screen locking.

When locking the screen, the displays first go blank and the monitor
goes to sleep.

Then if i move the mouse or press a keystroke, They go black but the
mouse is visible.

Once I move the mouse or strike a key the second time, everything comes
back up without password prompt. However, password prompt is enabled in
Brightness Lock

The client hardware is an Intel NUC D34010WYK

Also maybe related, there seems to be no system tray. No clock or
username/logout buttons. I am using Ctrl + Alt + L to lock the screen.
(See attached screenshot)

This is a security vulnerability and I can not make the new 14.04 image
available as fat clients, since they users cannot lock their
workstation.

I believe this bug affects me as well. Here's what happened when I
locked a flash video in fullscreen:

Bug description:
Im running on Ubuntu 14.04 and noticed this while watching a video
  last time.

There is a really easy way to replicate this bug:
  * Open a video in Totem
  * Set Totem to Always on Top
  * Make Totem full screen
  * Manually Lock the screen using Super+L
  * Notice that the lockscreen is hidden by totem.

If you don't lock it manually and just pause the video and let it lock
automatically this will show the same behavior.

The same behavior occurs with any application that can enter full
  screen mode.

So, this actually kinda worked itself out. After rebooting my computer,
I no longer have this maximization problem.
