Instead of restoring the window a new instance of nautilus is showing up. Steps to reproduce: 1. Open a nautilus window by clicking on the launcher icon. 2. Navigate to a symlinked directory whose target is located on a different harddrive (for example: a symlink to a folder on a sd-card). 3. Minimize the nautilus window. 4. Try to bring up that window again by clicking the launcher icon. What happens: 1. A new instance (window) of nautilus is opened. 2. There's no obvious way to access the first window again. The only way is ALT+TAB. What schould happen: If a nautilus window is already open and minimized clicking the launcher icon should bring up that window. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1226962] Re: Hotkeys not functional in non-latin keyboard layout in 13.10 and 14.04
Hi, I added an update to the PPA for GNOME Shell and Classic. If you could, please do an update, and use the modifier-only input switch option under GNOME control center - Keyboard - Typing instead of setting it manually via 'gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-input-source ['AltShift_L']'. Under Unity, the fix is still in progress, but if you're not using Shift_L, Shift_R, or both Shifts for switching, you might try the PPA to see if it helps the problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Hotkeys with F1-12, numbers and other non-character buttons works perfectly. Window manager hotkeys not affected by this bug. All hotkeys in system parameters-keyboard-hotkeys-windows works perfect with any keyboard layout. Workaround for some system hotkeys and two layouts (english and non- latin): rebind all hotkeys in your local layout. For example instead of ctrl+alt+t use ctrl+alt+τ (greek tau). That hotkey still work with english layout. If you use english and two different non-latin layouts this workaround helps only with one of them. Dear Ubuntu users and developers! [Dx-packages] [Bug 1315434] Re: Mouse with no time remaining estimate showing in preference to battery being charged
Jochen, thanks for the patch. But from your description, it seems like it wouldn't fix the problem, and it would need to be removed when the problem was fixed. The problem isn't that we're treating laptop batteries the wrong way, it's that we're treating the mouse the wrong way. Specifically, we're treating a device that is discharging over weeks or months as more important than *anything* that's charging, whether it's a laptop battery or not. With your patch, the mouse would still take precedence over anything charging quickly that wasn't a laptop battery, which would be inappropriate. And the laptop battery would take precedence over the mouse even when the mouse had only five minutes charge left, which would also be inappropriate. So we need some other criteria for deprioritizing things that are discharging very slowly. I don't think whether something is rechargeable is relevant: if my mouse battery is going to die in 20 minutes, I want to know that regardless of whether the solution is docking it or buying new batteries. ** Changed in: indicator-power (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Matthew Paul Thomas (mpt) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to indicator-power in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1315434 Title: Mouse with no time remaining estimate showing in preference to battery being charged Status in “indicator-power” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: When my laptop battery is in a charging state, but is not fully charged, I expect it to be displayed in preference to my mouse, which has no time remaining estimate. The spec here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Power says: If anything is discharging, the menu title should represent the component (not battery, but component) that is estimated to lose power first. For example, if your notebook battery is estimated to discharge in 1 hour 47 minutes, and your wireless mouse battery is estimated to discharge in 27 minutes, the menu title should represent the mouse. but there doesn't seem to be any guideline to what happens when a battery is being charged. I suggest the time remaining to charge a battery should be displayed in preference to the power level in a wireless mouse. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1315434] Re: Mouse with no time remaining estimate showing in preference to battery being charged
Matthew, I don't think you will never find an algorithm that satifies all user needs. My very personal opinion is, that the mouse battery status is irrelevant. Even if the mouse is going in 20 minutes, I still can use the touchpad of my laptop. I only want to see the status of my laptop battery. If you want to satisfy all user needs, you should make it configurable. My patch was only a quick workaround for people like me, that want the old behaviour of battery indicator. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to indicator-power in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1315434 Title: Mouse with no time remaining estimate showing in preference to battery being charged Status in “indicator-power” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: When my laptop battery is in a charging state, but is not fully charged, I expect it to be displayed in preference to my mouse, which has no time remaining estimate. Attaching detailed xserver log. The following steps were taken: 1- sudo restart lightdm (to restart the X server. so that de have a clean slate) 2- run a very simple qml app with qmlscene 3- tapped on that qmlscene window (touch id 1) 4- tapped on the desktop area (nautilus) (touch id 2) 5- sudo stop lightdm From the logs you can see that no pointer emulation was done for touch id 2 because xserver still thinks that touch id 1 is active. ** Attachment added: xorg_debug.zip https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1307701/+attachment/4106287/+files/xorg_debug.zip -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. The code in Qt that subscribes to slave device events is the explicit tablet-handling code. Checking the code, the touchscreen on my Dell XT2 is being treated as a tablet by the Qt code because it supports a stylus mode on one of its alternate devices. It sounds like the bug is in the Qt XCB QPA code, which explains why it only started occuring in QML apps after the switch to Qt 5.2. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1307701] Re: xserver mouse pointer emulation from touch breaks with QML app.
Is there a specific reason for calling XISelectEvents() for each slave vs using XIAllMasterDevices in QXcbConnection::xi2Select() in Qt? Would have to dig into Qt code to tell that. But my guess is that because it exposes QTouchDevice objects to applications. For every QTouchEvent you can get the QTouchDevice from where it came from. But it might be that it could work with XIAllMasterDevices just as well. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. This is also a security issue, because if the session was locked, and unity is not reloaded the session won't be locked anymore. [Test Case] From a terminal run killall -9 compiz multiple times, it should always reload, but it fails after a couple of times. [Regression Potential] The fix is about always making unity to be launched by upstart. I did have to upgrade oxygen as specified by David, too, as even with the Raleigh theme I was getting failures (much less frequent or reproducible than before upgrading libgtk, though). After upgrading oxygen, I didn't experience any further failures. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1315434] Re: Mouse with no time remaining estimate showing in preference to battery being charged
@jofa: If you want to satisfy all user needs, you should make it configurable. Yes. Why does the power indicator display have to be decreed to users? The mouse battery (along with any other battery besides the laptop) is irrelevant to me as well. By the current design, the power indicator on my laptop does not indicate the status of my laptop battery. While that seems like defective design to me, to someone else stubbornly displaying the laptop battery may seem like the wrong way to use a laptop. Letting users set a static display option to override the default behavior would do the trick. In any case, thanks for the patch. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1316613] Re: com.canonical.desktop.interface scrollbar-mode corrupts gtk3 apps in non-Unity desktops
No, it is not just a theme problem, but it can be fixed by setting backgrounds for various widgets in the theme. We did that for ubuntu- themes last cycle. These theme fixes aren't necessary with gtk 3.12 (or without overlay- scrollbars). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to overlay-scrollbar in Ubuntu. I can unreliably bring it back by playing with the top gnome-panel. I can reliably bring it back by killall gnome-panel. While affected, i can move my mouse to within a few pixels of the top of the screen and it will activate the on_hover of the application button directly below it on the bottom panel. E.X. I run gnome terminal, its application button appears on the bottom panel, i switch desktops (creating the problem). and i can then make it active by clicking the TOP of the screen directly above the button. Regardless, the workplace switcher has NEVER reflected the windows in the other desktops. I moved to Metacity just to be able to work. I have the same issue on a Vaio with a 1920x1080 screen at 15. Setting the text scale to 1.25 seems to sometimes boot up with the scaling being again and all of the text appearing too large. Also, the mouse cursors are incorrectly scaled in GTK2 applications, varying between controls from a 1.25-scaled cursor to the 1-scale cursor used by GTK3 apps. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1080076] Re: Music titles in SoundMenu too small
This bug was fixed in the package ido - 13.10.0+14.04.20140423-0ubuntu1 --- ido (13.10.0+14.04.20140423-0ubuntu1) trusty; urgency=low [ Lars Uebernickel ] * Make long track infos better readable By (a) making the width of the menu slightly larger and (b) reducing the font size. Also removes the hard-coded width of 200px in favor of a width based on font size (25 characters) and center the playback widget horizontally. (LP: #1080076) -- Ubuntu daily release ps-jenk...@lists.canonical.com Wed, 23 Apr 2014 17:03:35 + ** Changed in: ido (Ubuntu) Status: In Progress = Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to ido in Ubuntu. Matching subscriptions: dx-packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1080076 Title: Music titles in SoundMenu too small Status in elementary OS: Invalid Status in Indicator Display Objects: In Progress Status in “ido” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “ido” source package in Trusty: Fix Released Bug description: [Impact] The artist/title/album labels in the sound menu are often hard to read because they get ellipsized fairly quickly (i.e., for relatively short labels). Also, the menu is visually unbalanced in languages with longer strings (making the menu wider), because the playback controls are hardcoded with a ~100px left margin. The fix for this bug makes the font size a bit smaller, according to the design spec for the sound menu. It also makes sure that labels with a width of about 25 characters are always shown in full, independent of the font size. The playback controls are centered. [Test Case] Play a song in Rhythmbox that has an track name (or artist or album name) that is longer than about 20 characters. Open the sound menu and see that the long label is ellpsized. [Regression Potential] If the fix to this bug is faulty, it might lead to weird menu sizes (too small or too large). The playback controls used hard-coded coordinates for drawing and hit detection. Rendering or selection bugs might occur. [Original Description] When looking at the currently running track in SoundMenu (clementine music player), the space for the title of the track and album are too small, because the album art is directly next to it. Both titles are truncated and thus almost unreadable, when longer than about 10 characters. Is it possible to put the album artwork in a different column? Or make the SoundMenu wider?
