  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Ensure that phone timezone is something other than UTC. For instance
eastern tz (UTC-5)
  2. Set an alarm for 3:00 PM in the ubuntu clock app.
  3. Indicator shows a pending alarm for 3:00 PM
  4. Check a minute or so later, indicator shows an alarm pending for 8:00 PM

  What happens:
The alarm does not go off at 3:00 PM. Instead it triggers at 8:00 PM

  What should happen:
The alarm is triggered at 3:00 PM

Bug description:
  [Impact]

Users having the Launcher only on a monitor that is not the left-most
monitor can only open the application once. This can lead to much
frustration and a restart of the system in order to open the
  application again using the Launcher.

  [Test Case]

  * Have a multi-monitor setup.
  * Using System Settings, go to Displays.
  * Under General options, click the drop down for Launcher placement and
select the right-most monitor.
  * Click an icon to open a application. Close that application and click the
icon again.
  * The application should open again with this fix.

  [Regression Potential]

  None identified.

  Original Description:

  In Trusty:

On a dual monitor system with the launcher on the right hand screen,
an application that has been locked to launcher, (including those
there by default) can only be clicked on once per session to actually
launch the application. After that it's unresponsive to clicks,
  although right-click actions work.

Seems to affect all apps, including Files.

To repeat, for any application not already on the launcher bar:

Launch the application using the dash.

Right-click on its launcher icon and select Lock to Launcher

  Quit the application.

Click on its launcher icon. It should launch again.

  Quit it again.

Click on its launcher icon again. It won't work this time. It looks
like dragging would work, but its operation as a launcher will not.

NB: I haven't installed any hacks eg: click-to-minimise. Seen this on
two systems upgraded from saucy to trusty. (One with AMD graphics, one
with Intel, so I doubt that's relevant either.)

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1311316] Re: After locking screen there is no input field to type password for unlock

2014-05-09 Thread Joan CiberSheep
I just noticed two things:
 - If focus is on a text file when Unity locks, when you type the password is
been typed in the text file (even if it's not visible until you manage to
unlock clicking on top menu and clicking again in the password area)

 - Sometimes, visualizing a fullscreen video, system lock but it keeps
showing one of the frames of the video making dificult to unlock. The
way I found to unlock is to press ctrl+alt+L to lock and type the
password

[Dx-packages] [Bug 922979] Re: Keyboard Shortcuts overview isn't displayed on 1024x768 resolution or lower

2014-05-09 Thread Jorge Morais
My notebook has a 1366x768 screen - it is a very common resolution. When
I boot Ubuntu 14.04 liveISO the keyboard shortcuts overlay is displayed
and works very well - therefore my screen resolution is good enough for
it. But after I installed 14.04 on my hard disk, the shortcuts overlay
does not show anymore. See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-

I think it should because of my screen resolution : 1024*600

[Dx-packages] [Bug 855532] Re: Keyboard shortcut - Add keyboard shortcut hint overlay that is displayed when a user presses and holds the Super key

See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-
design/+bug/1317869

Bug description:
Add keyboard shortcut hint overlay that is displayed when a user
presses and holds the Super key.

See the attached design Super_key_shutcuts_overlay.png. The overlay
should use exact same border and transparent material as Alt-Tab. The
keyboard shortcuts themselves are defined in the following google doc
  https://docs.google.com/a/canonical.com/document/d
  /1jqeKtIJwqLtl58Wk_fqjr9Rrgxn9zsouCYOo-
  cZsLSE/edit?authkey=CLGG9NkJhl=en_GB

This should be displayed every time the user presses and holds the
Super key, at the same time the Launcher keyboard shortcut hints are
displayed. Releasing the Super key should hide this overlay, again at
the same time the Launcher keyboard shortcust hints are hidden. If
screen size is smaller than 1024*768, the shortcut window should not
  be displayed.

Also not that the design of the Launcher keyboard shortcust hints has
  been updated.

The design is attached to this bug, see
  keyboard_shortcuts_overlay.png. Dimensions are detailed in
  attached image keyboard_shortcuts_sizes.png

  -

  Accessibility notes:
  - For users of screen readers, as soon as the Alt key is held down, a reading
of the text should be piped directly through to the speech dispatcher. The
reading should stop as soon as the Alt key is released.
  - This overlay should be automatically disabled if sticky keys are turned on

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1303462 ***

It is hard to me to explain in english fluently but the solution is
ridiculous. If you open for instance writer and you dont see the menu
bar all you have to do is to point with mouse on bottom rand wait that
arrow transform in arrow down and PULL DOWN.

unity-panel-service and hud-service quickly racks up memory and CPU
usage until I kill it when invoking the HUD on Firefox. It's taking
anywhere from a few minutes to half an hour, but it sometimes makes
  the system completely unusable.

  1. run Firefox 12.0 in the foreground
  2. hit Alt to bring up HUD
  3. type any text
  4. select one proposal from HUD
  5. wait for unity-panel-service and hud-service to fill up the remaining RAM
and swap space.

This is due to a high number of bookmarks in a user profile

  I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro, with a 13.3 screen running at 3200x1800
pixels... I bought this partly to test out the UI scaling in Unity!...
and I have to say it's very awesome (both the screen and the UI
scaling)... however I have encountered a strange problem.

Seemingly at random, I have so far 3 times in 10 days had the font
size (not UI size) suddenly jump to something much too large.

UI scaling for the display is set at 1.38x and this is quite perfect
for me, it sure means no one will be able to read my screen over my
shoulder, but I that's fine! I had to install a Firefox plugin to
apply scaling there, but I realise why that is.

Anyway... I installed ubuntu-tweak and discovered that the large fonts
were due to the Text Scaling Factor having jumped up to a number
above 2.5... I also discovered that I could not move the slider
because every time I moved it the fonts re-scaled the slider moved and
lost mouse focus... and the slider reset to where it was to begin
with... I clicked the button on the right to return to 1.0, and it
returned to 1.4, which I assume is representative of the 1.38 I set in
the screen scaling... but I have no explanation for why it suddenly
jumped (when I logged out and back in) from 1.4 to something like
  2.5.)..

works as expected except for screen locking.

When locking the screen, the displays first go blank and the monitor
  goes to sleep.

Then if i move the mouse or press a keystroke, They go black but the
  mouse is visible.

Once I move the mouse or strike a key the second time, everything
comes back up without password prompt. However, password prompt is
  enabled in Brightness Lock

The client hardware is an Intel NUC D34010WYK

Also maybe related, there seems to be no system tray. No clock or
username/logout buttons. I am using Ctrl + Alt + L to lock the
  screen. (See attached screenshot)

This is a security vulnerability and I can not make the new 14.04
image available as fat clients, since they users cannot lock their

Window name filtering in scale mode unmaximize windows

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 14.04

  To reproduce :

-Be sure to have at least 3 windows fully maximized.
-Use Super-W to be in spread windows mode.
-type the name of a windows with the new windows name filtering feature in
14.04.
-Push Enter (don't use the mouse).
-Use Alt-tab to switch to another windows: this windows is not anymore fully
maximized (i.e. top bar and window title bar are not merged, see the attached
file). Impossible to merge again the window title bar and the top bar (you need
to use again spread mode and use keyboard filtering for this windows or use the
mouse to click on it).

Status in BAMF Application Matching Framework:

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  To reproduce:
On a brand new install of Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Trusty Tahr 64-bit with
chromium-browser 34.0.1847.116-0ubuntu2 and Unity
7.2.0+14.04.20140423-0ubuntu1.2 (all fully updated when the bug was found):

  1. Install Chromium
  2. Click the Settings icon on the right
  3. Click on Tools Create Application Shortcuts...
  4. [Deselect Desktop] Select Application Menu
  5. Click Create
  6. An icon will come up with the Chromium logo with the 'Facebook' name
  7. Close all Chromium windowschromium-browser
  8. Unlock the normal 'Chromium' one from the Launcher
9a. When clicking on the 'Facebook' launcher - launches a New Tab in Chromium.
9b. When searching for 'Chromium' in the Dash, it can't find it - Chromium is
now known as Facebook

For some reason, I can now add a second Facebook launcher with the
correct icon and everything but the Chromium one which calls itself
'Facebook' in the Dash and Launcher just acts like normal Chromium.
Because of this, I'm not sure if the bug can be reproduced. Really
annoying though: if anyone has a fix for this (so - how do I correct
'Chromium' to call itself 'Chromium' not 'Facebook' in the Dash) then
I would be very grateful :)

If you need any files, please ask. Running 'ubuntu-bug chromium-
browser' only opened a New Tab (in a new window) in Chromium after
reporting so I couldn't do that. I will report that as a separate bug
when I get the chance. (Update: Seems like this happens for every link
I try to open from the desktop)

I don't know if this is a bug in Unity or Chromium so I've filed it as
under both. Feel free to Invalidate one once you know which project
  this isn't a problem in.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1317918] [NEW] windows are placed a far top of screen even after being moved

Can't unlock screen if VirtualBox runs in full screen mode

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:

     Description: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
     Release: 14.04

  Unity package data:

    Instalados: 7.2.0+14.04.20140423-0ubuntu1.2
    Candidato: 7.2.0+14.04.20140423-0ubuntu1.2

  Hello,

I'm running a full updated Ubuntu 14.04 and I've found a problem with
the new lock screen (which is otherwise awesome):

When VirtualBox is running in full screen mode, and the screen locks
(e.g. i'm away from the computer for a while), I'm first unable to
write in the password box in the lock screen, even if the input seems
to be focused and the writing caret (I mean, the blinking | ) appears
  in the input field.

Anything I type in the password box is sent to the VirtualBox's guest
OS currently excecuting program, which in my case is usually
VisualStudio (I see the password I typed in the currently opened file
in VS, as all input is captured by VirtualBox it seems).

To be able to unlock, I need to press RightCtrl + F (which is
VirtualBox shortcut for toggling full screen mode) and then I can type
  in the password input box.

So, although I can use the mouse in the lock screen (as I'm able to
click to set the focus in the password box and use the indicators
there), it seems that all keyboard input is still captured by
  VirtualBox.

I haven't tested the lock screen with other full screen applications
(such as games) but if you think it's important I'm willing to help
  testing that.

I think it's a security vulnerability (so I'm marking the check) as
the typed password is visible as typed in the active application in
  the guest operating system.

  Best regards.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1314939] Re: Some elements in UI don't honor UI scale settings anymore

2014-05-09 Thread Treviño
This doesn't seem an unity bug, but rather a gtk apps issue... Unity-
Control-Center seems to scale its ui correctly, and so does unity.

The only elements that are not scaling here are external gtk apps, which
doesn't seem to respect gtk settings.

Plase provide the values you get from:
 gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.interface scaling-factor
 gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.interface text-scaling-factor

Title:
windows are placed a far top of screen even after being moved

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I'm using the latest Trusty unity.
Whenever I launch a program like 'virt-manager' it places the window at the
far top of the screen and I need to use 'Alt-Click' to move it such that the
title bar is clickable. Even after moving the window whenever I re-launch the
program it continues to be placed at the same location.

Attached is a screenshot of the issue.

Menu bar integration fail after filtering app windows in the spread by

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
After filtering and selecting a app window in the spread view, other windows
in the same workspace can't have menu bar
integration when maximized, i.e., their window title bar appears under the
unity menu bar, which can be seen from the attatched
  screenshot.

  Reproduce step:
  1. Open some windows, Terminal and Folder for example.
  2. Press Ctrl+w to spread the windows.
  3. Type one window name and select the window.
  4. The other window can't have menu bar integration when maximized(no matter
the other windows were maximized or not).

When this occurs, open the spread by Ctrl+w and select one window by
  mouse click recovers the issue.

Bug description:
In 13.10 and previous releases, locking the screen would go to the

In 14.04, it goes to the login screen, then fades to black, but after
that the screen is replaced with what looks like a corrupted texture
buffer of the login screen, with alternating black and corrupted
chunks in the framebuffer, and then the screen never goes to sleep, it
  just stays like that.

I can't adequately capture a screenshot since, of course, it's at the
login screen. Hopefully this is replicable on other systems using the
  NVidia 331 binary drivers.

I have disper installed and often use disper -s and disper -S to
switch between laptop screen and external screen (a shame that there's
no native way to do it, btw).

The screenshot shows how the Launcher showed up after a switch (look
at the left side of the screen: that's the launcher). Hiding and
showing it again didn't fix the issue. Switching screen back and forth
  did.

Other times, after a switch, some windows are black and only redraw

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1309739] Re: Unity launcher icon edge illumination is offset

2014-05-09 Thread Christopher Townsend
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ Many users tend to change the size of the Launcher icons to better fit
+ the screen resolution of their monitor or for personal tastes and
+ workflow reasons. This issue causes the edge glow of icons to be
+ offset at sizes less than 40 and greater than 56. This looks really
+ ugly and unprofessional.
+
+ [Test case]
+
+ * Open CCSM-Ubuntu Unity Plugin-Launcher
+ * Change Launcher Icon Backlight Mode to Edge Illumination Toggles
+ * Change Launcher Icon Size to some value in the range described above such
as 38.
+ * Make sure an application is open on the Launcher to see the edge glow
around the icon.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ None identified.
+
+ Original Description:
+
In Unity, when using the edge illumination effect on launcher icons is
offset. It shows to the top and left of the icons, but barely at all to
  the right and bottom.

This was not a problem before Trusty; in Saucy and previous releases the
edges were aligned properly. See attached screenshots.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1317945] Re: Clock indicator on panel is frozen

2014-05-09 Thread iMac
While I was submitting this bug, the panel indicator jumped forwards.
So it appears to be an issue with the frequency of the update in the
panel. It seems to get as much as a half hour behind, noting it just
jumped from 10:21am to 10:57am as I was submitting the bug report.

** Summary changed:

- Clock indicator on panel is frozen
+ Clock indicator on panel is updating infreqently

** Description changed:

Recently I have noticed that my clock is frozen. Clicking on the frozen
time in the indicator shows the current time in the dropdown (below the
calendar), however the displayed clock in the panel is never updated.

Rebooting does not resolve the problem, but gives me an updated time
  displayed on the panel.

It is probably unrelated, however earlier this week I did notice some
skew (that I have never seen before), confirmed it was the system clock
on the command line and ran an ntpdate-debian to update. I dismissed the
- skew it as a result of suspended too many times without reboot during

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1317814] [NEW] launcher arrow does not reflect the number of windows immediately

2014-05-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

In unity launcher, launcher arrow at the left side of launcher icon
should reflects the number of application instance. However, that arrow
icon does not changed immediately when I run another instance of an
app or remove one instance.

Test)

1. Run an application - 1 arrow
2. Run another instance of this application - should be 2 arrows, but 1 arrow
3. make one of instance minimize or move it to another workspace - then one
arrow changed to two arrows.
4. Terminate an instance - should be 1 arrow, but 2 arrows
5. do as 3. - arrow changed

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1292174] Re: [trusty] webapp launches, container remains blank

2014-05-09 Thread David Barth
Thanks for confirming that the bug is fixed.

And yes, please create separate bugs for the issues you are describing.
Note however that touch support on the desktop is not enabled fo the new
container. It is limited to the mobile platform right now. This is a
known limitation, but worth reporting nonetheless.

  Tested on unity-webapps-launchpad, unity-webapps-googleplus, unity-
  webapps-facebookmessenger.

Expected result: webapp launches properly within container and
  corresponding web page displays.

Actual result: webapp launches within container and remains blank, no
  web page displays.

  Example image attached.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1295762] Re: snap decision timeout needs to be determined by the requesting app

2014-05-09 Thread David Barth
If thee is a decision to be made, then the timeout should probably be
infinite, unless the app wants it to time out explicitly.

Otherwise, the use of the notification API feels a bit strange to me.
Snap decisions feel like something different, which should have a snap
decision API, where an application can express what the /decision/ is
about.

Bug description:
  Problem:
If user receives an SMS/call, snap decision for incoming SMS/call stays on
screen for always only 60sec. and then disappears from screen (by default).
There was no interaction from user.

  Possible solution:
The snap decision should stay on screen for the amount of time the app asks
it to, being always app dependant.
A 60sec. time-out is too short due to use cases where an action from user is
mandatory.

Use case example: A class 1/2 SMS arrives after user triggered a USSD
command from dialer. These type of SMS always requires a response from
user (CANCEL or a further COMMAND). Thus a timeout of only 60 sec is
too short because it can be missed and these type of SMS is NOT saved
  into the usual messages thread.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1313014] Re: Menus in bustle don't work in 14.04

2014-05-09 Thread David Lechner
It looks like the menu quits working after running a capture. The menu
does work correctly when you first start the application.

I tried both global menus and menus in titlebars with the same results.

Also, here is the output when I ran bustle from a terminal (warnings
appear when you stop the capture):

Warning: Unique name ':1.9' apparently connected to the bus twice
Warning: 'sen.der' appeared unheralded on the session bus; making something
up...
Warning: Unique name ':1.10' apparently connected to the bus twice

  1. Open gnome-terminal (works with xterm and nautilus too)

  2. Install freeglut3-dev package:

  sudo apt-get install freeglut3-dev

  3. Copy these lines to a file called test.c

  #include GL/glut.h
  int main(int argc, char *argv[]) {
glutInit(argc, argv);
glutInitDisplayMode(GLUT_RGB | GLUT_DOUBLE |GLUT_DEPTH);
glutCreateWindow(test);
return 0;
  }

  4. Compile test.c

  gcc test.c -o test -lglut

  5. Run the the compiled program

  ./test

  6. Observe the terminal titlebar as it appears corrupted.

It seems the content of the titlebar is replaced with random content
  from the memory.

With enough tries, this makes it even possible to view the contents of
bitmaps open in other programs in the titlebar.

  ps.
This bug seem to be hardware specific as my other laptop which has an ATI
video card does not suffer from this bug.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1201180] Re: powerbtn.sh conflicts with logind

2014-05-09 Thread Jhonny Oliveira
Hi,

this patch:

if pidof systemd-logind /dev/null; then
exit 0
fi

together with this line:
PMS=$PMS unity-settings-daemon

are preventing me from using the power button to immediatly shutdown
Ubuntu without any confirmation. In my case I want to be able to shut
down an Ubuntu VM through acpi from virsh.

With the current powerbtn.sh the following configuration lines this
won't have much effect :-(

gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power button-power 'shutdown'
gsettings set org.gnome.SessionManager logout-prompt false
gsettings set com.canonical.indicator.session suppress-logout-restart-shutdown
true

doing that in response of some other event (i.e. as callback of a dbus
  call):

  root 4998 0.0 0.0 177932 2104 ?Sl 20:41 0:00

a session-manager running and that it shouldn't actually directly
  power off the system then.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1307701]

2014-05-09 Thread Bugs-i
Created attachment 98694
xorg-integration-tests testcase try 2

Ok so I've finally isolated the problem. The problem is the XIGrabDevice
on the slave pointer, which is only removed after the touch ends. When
this happens the ButtonRelease call for pointer emulation is never
generated, leading to the 'stuck button' bug.

Modifying qt to listen to touch events on the master fixes it and
removes the need for the XIGrabDevice call. The grab was originally done
to prevent pointer emulation events, but these won't get generated when
we listen for touch events on the master, solving both problems.

But this is still a bug in xorg-server, regardless. :)

When running an SDK app on the desktop, it's not possible to use the
touchscreen to move windows, use the launcher, etc. The SDK app seems
  to consume all touchscreen events.

  To reproduce:
  1) On a desktop/laptop with a touchscreen (I am using a Dell XPS13), install
14.04 and check that the touchscreen works for moving windows
  2) Install the camera-app package from universe (I have
2.9.1+14.04.20140331-0ubuntu1)
  3) Launch the camera app
  4) Touch once inside the camera-app window
  5) Use the touchscreen to drag the camera-app window

  Expected results:
You can move the camera-app window using the touchscreen

  Actual results:
You cannot move the camera-app window, or perform any other touch tasks in
unity, with the touchscreen

This only affects touchscreen input - mouse/touchpad input is not
  affected

This affects all apps written with the SDK (I tried camera-app,
  gallery-app, reminders-app). It's 100% reproducible.

After waking from suspend to RAM all shadows are solid black.

I am not sure if this is the cause, but this is how I can reproduce it:
  - I suspend my notebook with no monitors attached
  - I wake it up with two external monitors attached
  - pitch black shadows

  Restarting unity solves the problem.
