[Dx-packages] [Bug 1320556] Re: Show copy dialog right click launcher entry doesn't work

2014-05-19 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1314587] Re: Windows slow/stall/freeze when minimizing/restoring/etc in Unity 7 14.04

2014-05-19 Thread d❤vid seaward
This issue seems to have improved, I presume with package updates since
it was first reported. Animations are generally no longer jerky. Soft
and hard reboot are generally no longer required. Keyboard Shortcuts
appear/disappear smoothly. Remaining problems:

 * Opening the Dash almost never works. Certainly not the first time or
after having other windows have been open for a while. It behaves almost
as though we have switch to the Dash pane, but it hasn't been rendered.
As a workaround, if I open Dash then trigger Guake, Dash appears (with
Guake behind it).

 * Closing or minimising windows generally works, except for the last
window. Closing or minimising the last window fails completely, or
starts the minimise animation but then halts. Either way, despite the
window remaining visible, it is no longer clickable.

Title:
  Windows slow/stall/freeze when minimizing/restoring/etc in Unity 7
  14.04

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce:

   * Minimize current window or alt-tab between windows
   * Reveal launcher to click on application
   * Click `Super` to bring up Dash
   * Hold `Super` to bring up Keyboard Shortcuts

  What should happen:

  Action completes smoothly and quickly.

  What happens instead:

   * Action may be slow / animation jerky.
   * Action may stall (animation frozen on given frame, e.g. window partially
minimized) - initiating another action cancels first action and second action
may succeed (most often calling Guake with F12 seems to solve the issue)
   * Action may freeze - cursor no longer moves - a soft reboot
(Alt+PrtScr+REISUB) usually works, otherwise a hard reboot

  Notes:

   * Not application specific. Minimizing is reliably slow/stalls with
minimizing Firefox (including 29, I do not have a lot of bookmarks) or Pidgin,
but I use those programs more often.
   * I am using an Nvidia Optimus machine with the default Nouveau driver - no
`nvidia-prime`, no Bumblebee. I temporarily installed the latest stable Nvidia
driver (including `nvidia-prime`) and it made no difference.
   * I did not experience this issue on the same machine running 13.10 (with
Bumblebee).
   * I am running Maximus.

Title:
Main menu of Qt apps locally integrated in the window title bar
disappears after activation of any menu item

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  [The bug]
When the integration of the app menus into the window title bars is turned
on, call of any dialogue from the menu leads to disappearance of the menu.
After that, the window title bar displays only the application title string.
The main menu cannot be seen and cannot be accessed until you switch to another
application and then return. The bug is observed only for unmaximized windows.
The main menu of maximized windows works fine.
This bug is observed only for Qt applications. I have “succeeded” to
reproduce it for VLC, Gwenview, digiKam, Krita, Calliga, VirtualBox,
GoldenDict, Mixx.

  [How to reproduce]
  1. Make sure that “Show the menus for a window” parameter (System Settings -
Appearance - Behavior) is set to “In the window's title bar”.
  2. Start any Qt application, say, one of mentioned above. Let it be, for
example, Gwenview.
  3. Unmaximize the app window.
  4. Activate any dialogue from the main menu. For instance, File - Open... or
Settings - Configure Gwenview...
  5. Press Cancel to close the dialogue.
  6. Hover the mouse pointer over the window title bar.

  [What is expected]
The app menu should appear and be accessible.

  [What happens]
The app menu is not shown. Only the application title is displayed in the
title bar.

Bug description:
New keyboard layout changer in Ubuntu 13.10 introduce old-new bug. Any
system or application hotkey witch use char (for example: ctrl+alt+t for
terminal or ctrl+t for new tab in browser) become unfunctional when selected
non-latin keyboard layout.
Hotkeys with F1-12, numbers and other non-character buttons works perfectly.

Window manager hotkeys not affected by this bug. All hotkeys in system
parameters-keyboard-hotkeys-windows works perfect with any keyboard
  layout.

Workaround for some system hotkeys and two layouts (english and non-
latin): rebind all hotkeys in your local layout. For example instead
of ctrl+alt+t use ctrl+alt+τ (greek tau). That hotkey still work with
english layout. If you use english and two different non-latin
layouts this workaround helps only with one of them.

  Dear Ubuntu users and developers!
Please include the following information to your comment about non-latin
shortcuts problems:
  1. What Ubuntu version do you have (Ubuntu 13.10, Ubuntu 13.10 GNOME, Ubuntu
14.04, Ubuntu 14.04 GNOME and so on), upgraded (describe version) or clean
installed
  2. What keyboard layout do you have
  3. What shortcut for keyboard layout switching do you use
  4. On which session you have problems - that is one from Unity, GNOME Shell,
GNOME FlashBack/Fallback (Metacity), GNOME FlashBack/Fallback (Compiz)
  5. With which program and its version and origin (Ubuntu repositories, PPA,
non-deb binary package from some website) you have problems.

By providing this information you can make bug-fixing much simpler and
  may be faster.

  --
For other layout switching problems introduced in Ubuntu 13.10 you can see
bug 1218322.

2014-05-19 Thread Simon P.
1) I start to copy a large amount of files. I do something else
meanwhile so the copy dialogue minimises.

2) I expect the copy dialogue to open when i right-click on the files
symbol in the launcher and click on show copy dialog

3) What happens: nothing happens.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1304568] Re: Upgrade 12.04 LTS to 14.04LTS Beta 2 lost panel launch

2014-05-19 Thread ealthuis
Since no answer has been found, I went elsewhere, in fact to the support
people at System76.com There after talking about my problem the
gentleman suggested that my problem might be in the /home directory
which I had carefully preserved each time an installation was done. So
I reunstalled 14.04LTS and changed the name of /home and installed new
/home on the SSD

PROBLEM FIXED.

got the background but no panel and no launcher. Right click on the
screen gave the settings menu and all settings could be accessed, but
  still no launcher or panel.

   I downloaded 14.04LTS Beta2 and made a USB stick, did a complete
install, formatting / but not the other paritions. When restarted
again no panel, no launcher but access to the settings menuis
  available.

I used to be able to start terminal by using ctrl+alt+t, but that does
  not work anymore.

ICannot access anything on the perfectly good screen.

Shutting down by pressing the startup knob and then restarting
  provides the sam eproblem.

Observe the minimized windows briefly popup before the screen locks.

Title:
Minimised applications show briefly before lock and after unlock
  (again)

Status in Unity:
  Triaged
Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
With the new locking scheme in unity7, minimized applications appear
  briefly after unlocking

  To reproduce:

  1. Open some applications (in my case psensor and steam)
  2. Minimize them
  3. Press CTRL+ALT+L or Super+L to lock the screen
Observe the minimized windows briefly popup before the screen locks.
  4. Unlock screen
Observe the minimized windows re-appear, then re-minimize.

I would expect minimized applications to stay minimised through the
  lock/unlock process.

Here is a video showing the problem:

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1320981] [NEW] unity fails to load after login - screen garbled; desktop unusable

2014-05-19 Thread Alex Chubaty
Public bug reported:

everything was working fine until the recent kernel update.

switching to tty1 and running unity --replace restores some (but not all)
desktop functionality:
- desktop loads (no longer garbled)
- unity sidebar now loads
- top menu bar doesn't load
- many window decorations, font etc. not working so windows look awful
- shortcut keys do not work
- start up programs don't load

some of the output from unity --replace is similar to this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/1282507 suggesting a problem
connecting to dbus (see attached)

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1320982] [NEW] amd64 ltsp fat client keyring daemon hangs

2014-05-19 Thread Charlie Ott
Public bug reported:

Using Ubuntu 14.04 LTSP amd64 fat client with gnome-keyring
3.10.1-1ubuntu4

When launching something like Google Chrome (Which attempts to utilize
the gnome keyring), Creating a 'new' keyring password causes the tool to
hang. It also creates thousands of files labeled
Default.temp.keyring-#, where the numbers seemed to be a sequence
that is being automatically generated.

when the daemon tries to create the first(new) keyring from the google
chrome initiated prompt, the files are created in the user home folder:
~/.local/share/keyrings/

There were so many temp files that I had to kill the keyring daemon
(-start -components=secret) and use 'find . -type f -delete' since the
rm command was taking too long attempting to delete so many files. So
now I just hit 'cancel' whenever the keyring pops up. However, I would
like to get this working for my end users.

Here is some information about how the /run folder is mounted and what
the environment variables are. This is likely an LTSP issue, but I am
not sure what to report to the LTSP team.

cott@ltsp550:~$ mount

SSH_AUTH_SOCK=/run/user/59319/keyring-ypJP2X/ssh

I have also recently found out that LTSP thick clients do not have access to
the shadow file. Which is not an issue in my case since my users are
authenticated against an external directory server using the LDAP for sssd.

Bug description:
When the ~/phablet tree has media files added to it by the user, it is
possible for the storage space to be filled, and consequently for the
  device not to boot.

  From the OEM project bug:

After further investigation this problem was caused by the following:

   1) Files were pushed to ~phablet/
   2) The files filled the home partition completely
   3) Upon a restart of the phone the upstart session job
/usr/share/upstart/sessions/dbus.conf is attempted
   4) Because the partition is full, the final line of the pre-start stanza
fails as $HOME/.cache/upstart/dbus-session cannot be created
   5) As there is no running dbus session instance unity8 fails to start

Clearing space on the home partition allows unity8 to start again.

Posted here, since following discussion in #ubuntu-touch it has the
same underlying cause as bug #1270248, also reported on this package.

Raised as a separate bug, because this was caused by user action,
rather than simply the system failing to do log housekeeping.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1316978] Re: ubuntu-touch-session needs to be able to start even if the homedir is filled to 100%

2014-05-19 Thread Pete Woods
I just felt the need to point out that unity8 doesn't really even use
HUD any more (as of a week or so ago, the gesture to invoke HUD was
disabled).

So if HUD failing to load due to DBus failure blocks unity8 startup, we
could probably just cut a few more cords in the unty8 codebase to
prevent the HUD UI component from attempting to initialise HUD. Either
by deleting the UI components, or by ensuring they don't load.

Title:
Unity does not properly search everything depending on pattern of
  previous search.

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I have noticed in Unity that sometimes it does not properly search
everything. By everything I mean items outside the scope of
applications, but also documents, folders, etc. I found this very easy
  to replicate.

  1) Create a LibreOffice document entitled Passwords (aka Passwords.odt)
  2) Search for LibreOffice in the dash. Without opening anything, hit the
super key to exit the Unity dash.
  3) Hit the super key and type passwords. Note that only Passwords and
Keys (application) shows up, when you should see Passwords.odt and Passwords
and Keys.

Now if you repeat steps 2 and 3 again, but this time hit backspace to
erase LibreOffice, then type Passwords, you'll see Unity kind of does
a fully reset search, thereby digging up other items outside of
applications that resemble the search term Passwords. Given that
Unity is meant to be the centralized finder of all things, it would
make sense if Unity would search for all *local* items with all
searches without the need to backspace. Before I figured out that
hitting backspace kind of reset the Unity search to find more things
outside the applications realm it was wildly confusing with how Unity
would seemingly often find the document I wanted but other times only
found applications that I didn't want.

  Thanks for your time!

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1316978] Re: ubuntu-touch-session needs to be able to start even if the homedir is filled to 100%

2014-05-19 Thread Oliver Grawert
as i understood the removal of the gesture is only temporary until an
alternative is found ...
also doesnt the search function in the panel use the HUD as backend still ?

generally i'm just trying to move the dbus-session file to
$XDG_RUNTIME_DIR and adjust all consumers to read it from there, the
change to the HUD code is a trivial one liner (and you get cleanup of
the messed up upstart job (duplicated pre-start script) for free with
the MP)

hexafraction, sure; he locks the screen using the gear - lock menu; he
waits until the password prompt is visible; he uses three or four
fingers on the touchpad to bring up something very similar to alt-tab or
