Title:
PIN-locked phone becomes unresponsive after simultaneous alarms

Status in “indicator-datetime” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce

  1. Run recent image (I'm on #178 on mako)
  2. Setup pin lock in system settings
  3. Enter two events for the same time, soon, in your google calendar
  4. Have your phone sync your google calendar using system settings - accounts
  5. Lock screen
  6. Wait for the events

  What happens

  * Multiple alarms go off, notification on screen. You can hear two rings at
once (separate bug)
  * Tap notification to make it go away
  * Sound continues, but there's no notification on screen.

At this point you cannot unlock the phone. You can swipe away the
welcome screen, but the display dims a bit once you do, and nothing is
clickable - can't click numbers in pin unlock, can't swipe down
  indicators..

You have to reboot the phone to get past this.

This is possible related to Bug #1352231

When using Unity windows aren't rendered or updated. In LXDE
  everything works fine.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Log into Unity
  2. Open a Window

  What should happen:
The window is shown I can interact with it.

  What actually happens:
Only the Mouse-Cursor changes. I can only see anything happened after running
unity --replace. For every Update(Window movement, ...) I have to repeat
unity --replace in order to see the changes.

  When did this regression happen:
Last known working configuration was 28 July 2014.

The problem started with the update to linux kernel 3.13.0-20-generic,
where temporarily fixed by booting 3.13.0-19-generic but it seems like
every kernel is affected since now this workaround doesn't help either.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1354945] Re: Wrong day is displayed on first click to datetime indicator

Hi psl, this bug is fixed in Ubuntu 13.10 and later. Unfortunately the
bug wasn't important enough to backport the fix to Ubuntu 12.04.

Well, this bug is not new, it is in Ubuntu for ages and I am surprised
  it was not fixed yet.

There is a clock in the right upper corner of Unity desktop
(indicator-datetime) and when I click the clock, small window with
calendar is displayed. On the first click, date marked as current day
is wrong, it is date when calendar was opened for the last time (or
when the system was started). On the third click (well second click
closes calendar), correct day is highlighted.

  To repeat this bug, your desktop has to run for more than one day;
maybe you can replicate it when you start Ubuntu before midnight and
try to check calendar after midnight. On the first click, wrong day in
  calendar will be highlighted.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1311316] Re: After locking screen there is no input field to type password for unlock

2014-08-11 Thread Thomas
I've also encountered this issue with a dual monitor setup.
I only seem to trigger it when locking my Dell Latitude E6530 (NVIDIA
Corporation GF108GLM [NVS 5200M]) with Ubuntu 14.04.1. Sadly I cannot reproduce
it reliably, but I trigger it in maybe 5% of the cases.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1355196] [NEW] unity crashes on login, compiz cpu and memory intensive

2014-08-11 Thread Scott Moser

Recent upgrade and reboot/re-login left me with a generally unusable
compiz/unity.
On login, the desktop icons move back and forth several times, I believe this
correlates with ~/.xesssion-errors 'unity main process ended' messages like:

of ascii characters), as it appeared to be inputting everything in
Japanese (the typical underlines were there, but everything was
starred as it was a password input field).

There didn't appear to be a way to switch it back to a standard qwerty
input mode, so I was kind of stuck.

  Workaround:
I managed to get back in by activating the switch user menu item and logging
back in from there.

I haven't retested yet, but Saviq mentioned that he got it when playing
music specifically. So I'll look at that as a reproduction method next.

Title:
unity lock screen provides no way to force-logout a user

Status in Unity:
  In Progress
Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
Let me start by saying that I realize that unity's screen locker is
not the same thing as gnome-screensaver. That having been said, there
are major regressions in functionality with the advent of Trusty.
Virtually every site that uses Linux in any sort of public computing
areas makes use (or used to, at least) of gnome-screensaver's logout-
delay and logout-enabled functionality, which would, after the
screen had been locked for a pre-determined amount of time, present a
Log Out button that would end the user's session, optionally running
a custom command to do so. This is vital, lest people walk away from
their workstations, rendering them unusable by others until they are
  rebooted.

unity's lock screen mode provides no way to do this. Right up until
the final beta, it was possible to swap out unity's lockscreen mode
for gnome-screensaver, but that was removed as well. I wouldn't mind
if it was possible to configure the alternate use of a screensaver,
but Unity goes out of its way to ensure you can't do this. If there's
some magic way to do this, by adding an applet to the panel when in
lockscreen mode, or by invoking some D-Bus black magic, I'd be happy
  to hear about it.

But really, removing this level of functionality while simultaneously
preventing any workarounds, is a real problem.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1) Log in to a unity session.
  2) Lock the screen.
  3) Observe that org.gnome.desktop.screensaver gsettings keys are not honored.
  4) Examine the com.canonical.unity* schemas and observe there is no way to
enable this behavior.

Bug description:
Sometimes left clicking the nautilus launcher icon doesn't bring up a
minimized nautilus window. Instead of restoring the window a new
instance of nautilus is showing up.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open a nautilus window by clicking on the launcher icon.
  2. Navigate to a symlinked directory whose target is located on a different
harddrive (for example: a symlink to a folder on a sd-card).
  3. Minimize the nautilus window.
  4. Try to bring up that window again by clicking the launcher icon.

  What happens:

  1. A new instance (window) of nautilus is opened.
  2. There's no obvious way to access the first window again. The only way is
ALT+TAB.

  What schould happen:

If a nautilus window is already open and minimized clicking the
launcher icon should bring up that window. This was the behavior of
nautilus windows in Ubuntu 12.10 (quantal).

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1154451] Re: Windows Startkey only works when an application is open?

2014-08-11 Thread Brandon Schaefer
This is most likley caused by a bad nautilus not running the Desktop
window. This window needs to be open other wise compiz wont get any
keyboarde events since no windows are present/focused. Make sure
nautilus is running, and when you are on an empty desktop that the top
panel reads Ubuntu Desktop and the top panel has drop shadow. If you
dont have this then nautilus is not running in desktop mode.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1152467] Re: Icons Missing In Dash

2014-08-11 Thread Brandon Schaefer
All unity does is reads the *.desktop file. If the app is not starting
then its the *.desktop file that comes with that app. I would check out
/usr/share/applications/ and look for those desktop files and ensure the
Exec section is correct. Theres nothing we can do about bad desktop
files in unity.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1349858] Re: Cannot override certain key combinations involving Super

2014-08-11 Thread Brandon Schaefer
This is somewhat problematic. As compiz gets the events, checks if it
uses that shortcut. If it does then it eats the event and its done. If
it doesn't eat the event it gets sent to gnome control center (now unity
control center i think?). Which then gets to the right shortcut.

So the only way to get this to work correctly, is to go in ccsm
(compizconfig setting manager) and change the shortcut in unity plugin
to not open photos scope when you press Super+C.
