[Dx-packages] [Bug 1380093] [NEW] autologin prevents the lock from working
You have been subscribed to a public bug: After upgrade to 14.04, I notice I can no longer lock my screen. After more debugging, it was due to the fact that I have autologin enabled. Autologin is needed, so when my machine starts up due to whatever reason. But I would like to be able to lock the screen, and thus require a password to unlock (per configuration) if needed (or when it goes idle). [Dx-packages] [Bug 1386255] Re: devhelp and many other apps crash with SIGSEGV in g_closure_invoke() due to overlay-scrollbars
Details about my GDB session: - gdb gnome-calculator (easy to trigger the bug: click on the titlebar dropdown; bonus: doesn't hold a keyboard/mouse grab when it gets frozen by gdb) - 'run' - click on the titlebar dropdown, see the window freeze - gdb shows a segfault at 0x0 - 'bt' shows the stack trace; frame #1 is g_closure_invoke; the closure pointer is the same for every crash - higher up in the stack you see it was called by gtk_grab_notify() - set a conditional breakpoint 'b g_closure_invoke if closure == 0x' - 'run' to restart - click on the titlebar dropdown again - the breakpoint trips three times; first two are benign so hit 'cont' twice; the third one causes the crash - single-stepping with 'n' and 's' shows that you end up in g_type_class_meta_marshal() for GtkScrollbar, with a callback at some address (0x7fffeeb3abe0) - gdb was unable to resolve that address to a symbol, but /proc/$(pidof gnome-calculator)/maps shows it was in the range mapped to /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gtk-3.0/modules/liboverlay-scrollbar.so -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to overlay-scrollbar in Ubuntu. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1386255] Re: devhelp and many other apps crash with SIGSEGV in g_closure_invoke() due to overlay-scrollbars
Here's what causes the crash: - overlay-scrollbar's gtk_module_init() does this: widget_class = g_type_class_ref (GTK_TYPE_SCROLLBAR) pre_hijacked_scrollbar_grab_notify = widget_class-grab_notify; In GTK+ 3.14 widget_class-grab_notify for GTK_TYPE_SCROLLBAR is NULL. - overlay-scrollbar's patch_scrollbar_class_vtable() does this: if (widget_class-grab_notify == pre_hijacked_scrollbar_grab_notify) widget_class-grab_notify = hijacked_scrollbar_grab_notify; Since widget_class-grab_notify is still NULL and it is equal to pre_hijacked_scrollbar_grab_notify, we install our own signal handler. - overlay-scrollbar's hijacked_scrollbar_grab_notify() does this: if (use_overlay_scrollbar ()) return; (* pre_hijacked_scrollbar_grab_notify) (widget, was_grabbed); Since in Ubuntu GNOME use_overlay_scrollbar() returns a false value due, this code calls a NULL pointer and segfaults. A more future-proof fix would be to check all pre_hijacked_ handlers before calling them. ** Also affects: overlay-scrollbar Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to overlay-scrollbar in Ubuntu. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1340996] Re: Overlay scrollbars doesn't scale to match the current DPI settings
This bug was fixed in the package unity - 7.2.3+14.04.20140826-0ubuntu1 --- unity (7.2.3+14.04.20140826-0ubuntu1) trusty; urgency=medium [ Andrea Azzarone ] * Remove cross fade effect during lock/unlocking. A simple fading works just fine. (LP: #1312107) * Manually emit nux::Area::geometry_changed beucase nux can fail to emit it. (LP: #1292391) [ Pawel Szubert ] * Reduce the scope of the kill command when restarting Compiz. (LP: #1324114) [ Marco Trevisan (Treviño) ] * LockScreenAcceleratorController: do ther configured action on power special keys press. We finally can suspend, shutdown, hibernate or start the screensaver when the screen is locked, using the Suspend, Sleep, Hibernate and PowerOff hardware keys. Also the Shutdown dialog doesn't allow now to lock the session if it is not allowed by settings. (LP: #1306211) (LP: #1320051) (LP: #1320071) * Previews: scale the dash preview contents to match current monitor scaling. Improved also the scaling of search-bar, spinner, categories and many other components. (LP: #1339629) * FilterWidgets: add support for scaling (LP: #1340171) * OverlayRendering: correctly scale the overlays borders and edges to match settings. DashStyle has been modified to return smart pointers of textures that are loaded depending on the scale level. The cache will make sure that we don't duplicate the textures and that they get removed when not needed anymore. Also thanks to this the SearchBarSpinner textures (and the other spinners as well) uses the SVGs scaled at the proper size (I desgined a new SVG for the magnifier, as we only had a PNG). (LP: #1283415) (LP: #1340394) * Hud: scale to match current DPI settings for monitor. (LP: #1340477) [ Eleni Maria Stea ] * Previews: scale the dash preview contents to match current monitor scaling. Improved also the scaling of search-bar, spinner, categories and many other components. (LP: #1339629) [ Stephen M. Webb ] * Reduce the scope of the kill command when restarting Compiz. (LP: #1324114) [ Chris Townsend ] * Bump version to 7.2.3. unity (7.2.2+14.04.20140714-0ubuntu2) trusty; urgency=medium [ Andrea Azzarone ] * Remove cross fade effect during lock/unlocking. Add a new ScrollView class to create ScrollViews with an OverlayScrollbar and with scaling support. Using them in dash Scopes and Previews. (LP: #1340996) * LockScreenShield: Add GrabScreen function and retry to make sure we really get the grab. It might happen that the grab is not possible because the PluginAdapter::IsScreenGrabbed request has still not being fully processed, and thus nux is not able to grab the pointer/keyboard. By doing this we instead try to grab the screen, and if this is not happening, we wait a little until we don't get the ungrab event. In this way, if we eventually get the grab, all will work as expected. Otherwise, we cancel the lock request (very unlikely to happen). (LP: #1349128) * PlacesOverlayVScrollBar: redirect the mouse wheel scroll events coming from the thumb to the scrollview. This will make the scrollview to handle then and perform the same

(LP: #1340477) * PlacesOverlayVScrollBar and VScrollBarOverlayWindow: add support for scaling.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1306211] Re: Trying to lock screen in a guest session leads to an unusable session
For example, using gnome-tweak-tool it's possible to set the CapsLock key to behave as an extra Ctrl, or an extra Alt (or several other extras) and then set Both shifts together toggle CapsLock. This works perfectly well inside Unity, the hardware keyboard led indicator shows up, etc. However, the lockscreen detector doesn't correctly warn or not warn when this setup is used. * If the lockscreen was activated with capslock on, then the double-shift makes capslock go away, but not the warning. * If the lockscreen was activated with capslock off, then the double-shift makes capslock on, but no warning shows up. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1386714] [NEW] Window Spread search conflicts in maximization of open windows
Public bug reported: To reproduce the bug: 1. open multiple windows; 2. open Window Spread/Scale (Super+W); 3. search for a window and select it; 4. now switch to another window without using Window Spread again; 5. try to maximize/unmaximize window. You will see the maximized window is expanded horizontally and vertically, but there are two title bars i.e. the window keeps its title bar separate from the top indicator bar even after maximization. This bug doesn't affect windows opened after window spread search. Opening Window Spread again without searching will fix the bug. [Dx-packages] [Bug 988072] Re: Can't remove user if they're not in /etc/passwd
That work-around doesn't work for me, because my lightdm.conf already has those entries in it. Matching subscriptions: dx-packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/988072 Title: Can't remove user if they're not in /etc/passwd Status in “accountsservice” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Thanks to nss, there are many ways for a user account to exist. If you have user accounts authenticated with LDAP (say), and use nss tables other than passwd to store user information, then you find that the system automatically creates an entry in the user account database on login. This is handy: it means the user gets listed by lightdm in the greeter, for example, and things like background and keyboard prefs can be known to the greeter. It's all good. However, these users cannot be deleted. If you use the accounts-daemon from the control center to remove them, you get this error: Failed to delete user GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.Accounts.Error.Failed: running '/usr/sbin/userdel' failed: /usr/sbin/userdel returned an error (1): userdel: cannot remove entry 'tbushnell' from /etc/passwd And alas, the user then stays in the system database. Please make it possible to remove users from the system database even if deluser and userdel don't work on them. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1335289] Re: Shutdown timer regression
I would love to have the 60 second countdown feature back (for logging out, shutting down or restarting). This has saved me on several occasions (e.g. when my KVM switch became unresponsive, the video display became corrupted, or a wireless keyboard/mouse lost the connection, etc - just push the power button and you knew the system would automatically shutdown in a minute's time). This feature is available in other desktops still (e.g. KDE, Cinnamon), so it would be great to have it back in Unity too. Even if it was a tick box option somewhere in System Settings to turn it on (i.e. optional). Many thanks. Kind regards, Adam. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. After the time elapsed, the computer would shutdown. This feature is now missing in 14.*. As a user who absolutely loved this feature, I consider this a regression.
