[Dx-packages] [Bug 1394253] Re: Bluetooth discoverability confusing

2014-11-28 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
After force-closing System Settings and relaunching it, there is a tiny
pause the first time I visit the Bluetooth screen, but none on
subsequent occasions, and none when I exit the screen. So the timers
aren't working. The checkbox animation is probably bug 1276066.

This doesn't require any design work: the spec already spells out that
there should be a one-second pause between entering the screen and
starting discoverability, and a one-second pause between stopping
discoverability and exiting the screen.

  Bluetooth discoverability confusing

Status in ubuntu-system-settings package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce:
  1. go to Bluetooth in Settings
  2. go out of the Bluetooth pane

When going in, the page says Discoverable and lists the name. When
you go out... is it still discoverable? Was it already discoverable
  before?

The indicator icon (or menu) doesn't change, either, so there's
basically no way to know if you're discoverable when outside of the
  settings page.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1363015] Re: App icons require shaping at every callsite

2014-11-28 Thread Christian Dywan
The problem is that app icons are not a technical concept. The icon
of a particular app comes from its .desktop file from its installation
folder, and at the end of the day will have an arbitrary filename
looking like any other image. Click packages can have multiple unrelated
images and more than one app.

How about an AppIcon component?

App icons require shaping at every callsite

Bug description:
In list items, showing an app icon in the correct Ubuntu shape requires
shaping it when you are using it: ListItem.Standard{IconFrame: True}.

http://developer.ubuntu.com/api/qml/sdk-14.04/Ubuntu.Components.ListItems.Standard/#iconFrame-prop

That property is set to True by default, but it's not obvious why it
should be, and list items aren't the only place that app icons get
  used.

The result is that several times now, app updates have ended up without the
appropriate frame:
  - in the System Settings Updates list (bug 1354478)
  - in the Notifications screen
  - in the Launcher the frame is unintentionally different (bug 1332119).

Conversely, non-app icons have ended up *with* the frame by mistake:
  - Display language (bug 1288866)
  - Orientation Lock (bug 1365450)
  - Ubuntu updates (bug 1367136).

In notification bubbles, the opposite applies -- you have to set a hint to
use an *unshaped* icon: notify_notification_set_hint_string(m_notification,
x-canonical-non-shaped-icon, true).
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Notifications#Elements_of_a_Notification

Predictably, this has resulted in cases of icons having frames when they
shouldn't:
  - Wi-Fi network authentication (bug 1346904)
  - alarms (bug 1346925)
  - Remove Account (bug 1350282).

On the API design quality scale, both of these are roughly Read the
implementation and you'll get it right. http://sweng.the-
  davies.net/Home/rustys-api-design-manifesto Worse, they have opposite
  defaults.

I suggest that the toolkit move all the way up to It's impossible to
get wrong, by always shaping an icon when it is an app icon, and
never otherwise. Whether an icon is an app icon could (I assume) be
  detected by its path.

  How to reproduce:

Open Displays from the dash. Select the secondary monitor. Turn the

monitor), and click Apply.
  Close Displays. Reopen it.
Select the secondary monitor. Turn the secondary monitor on (in the

Put the secondary monitor to the left of the primary monitor.

  Expected Results:
Secondary Display turns on, and I am prompted to keep my settings or revert.

  Actual Results:
Brief screen garbage, followed by unity crashing. Whenever I try to

Bug description:
This appears to be a regression in 14.10 sometime in September 2014.

The behavior appears similar to this bug from 2011:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity-2d/+bug/830348

On resume from suspend, screen contents are displayed for a brief time
(perhaps 0.5 to 1 sec) before the lock dialog appears.

These screen contents are not always the desktop or open application
beneath the lock screen. On at least one occasion, the screen showed
content from a full-screen video that had been playing in Firefox some
time before the computer had been suspended: neither the video nor its
underlying tab were open anymore, so the image(s) was likely part of a
buffer somewhere. (Needless to say, if the wrong full-screen video had
been watched, depending on the setting, this could be a quite serious
  issue for some users).

I have not exhaustively tested conditions in which this appears.
However, just now, the bug did not appear when keeping the lid open,
suspending, and then resuming with the power button.

But when suspending from menu, closing the lid, then opening the lid
and moving the mouse, the screen displayed contents before showing the
lock dialog. The image displayed was of the desktop (with this bug
reporting window) and showed the suspend item in the power menu
  being highlighted/clicked.

Bug description:
A maximized application's title bar does not merge into the menu bar
once a user has performed Super + W (window slide). Note that if one
does not do Super+E, then the bars to merge together. However, once
Super+E has been performed, this bug persists for the lifetime of the
windowed application. If the application is restarted after doing
Super+E, then the bug is gone. Thus, it seems like Super+E introduces
this bug for the lifetime of the windowed application.

Expected behavior: Maximized window's title bar is merged into menu bar.
Observed: Does not occur after Super+W is performed.

  Try this out using Terminal.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1390625] Re: mouse cursor gets corrupted

2014-11-28 Thread Fish
Judging by the photo of the corrupted cursor, I think I have the same
problem, and it occurs when I drag and drop a file - the cursor becomes
corrupted after the drop. However, I'm using Xubuntu 14.10 (upgraded
from 14.04).

In Ubuntu 14.10, the mouse cursor graphic gets corrupted under certain
occasions. It then looks flipped, sheared or shows fragments of a
  previous cursor.

  * when switching the cursor them forth and back in Gnome Tweak Tool
  * when dragdropping a document icon

Maybe related, the cursor does not always show the correct image scale
on a high-dpi display (this was working right in 14.04). For example
after login, or when hovering specific areas, or on mouse down to
start a dragdrop, the cursor appears 1/4 the expected size.

Attached is a photo of a corrupted cursor (whereas a screenshot with
  Gimp showed the uncorrupted cursor).

Bug description:
Please view this video of the bug I'm reporting:
  http://youtu.be/wKGLff7HhS8

Essentially, when using the Unity desktop in a Multiple Monitor setup
(using workspaces), Remmina is launching remote sessions into a window
larger than the workspace to which I'm launching it.

Another thing to note about my set up, is that I do use Ubuntu's
scaling feature to make things about 10% larger than the default size
(to accommodate my otherwise straining eyes). Some times I use large
text too. These facts may be totally unrelated to the bug, but I
thought I would at least mention them.

  I'm using a fully update Ubuntu 14.04 Desktop 64bit.

Status in Unity:

Status in unity package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
This is happening for any gtk-3.12 theme which has proper support for
  gtk-headerbar.

  How to reproduce on Utopic:

  1. sudo apt-get install Numix
  2. sudo apt-get install gnome-tweak-tool
  3. change Gtk theme to Numix
  4. Open any app with Gtk-Headerbar ( NOT directly patched by Ubuntu) like
gnome-tweak-tool, gnome-system-log
  2. enable show-desktop on unity launcher
  3. Click on show-desktop first time. it will show desktop.
  4. Click on it again, it crashes compiz sometimes does not recover from it.
Users have to fallback to TTY force restart lightdm.

The problem also occurs for any headerbar app from Gnom3 ppa (for
  example gnome-contacts, baobab, gnome-maps).

  Attached crash file from /var/crash/compiz.

Note: Compiz on other desktop shell/session works relatively well. For
example in Gnome-Flashback-Compiz session it doesn't happen.

Title:
bluetooth indicator doesn't work properly after hibernate

Status in indicator-bluetooth package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
If I shut down the computer and restart it the bluetooth-indicator
  works fine

However if I hibernate the computer and start it again, the ON-OFF
switch in the bluetooth-indicator does not change the icon (so if the
switch is changed to ON the indicator stays greyed out).

If I go to control-center Bluetooth, and change the state there the
  indicator starts to work again

Status in unity package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
This is possible related to Bug #1352231

When using Unity windows aren't rendered or updated. In LXDE
  everything works fine.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Log into Unity
  2. Open a Window

  What should happen:
The window is shown I can interact with it.

  What actually happens:
Only the Mouse-Cursor changes. I can only see anything happened after running
unity --replace. For every Update(Window movement, ...) I have to repeat
unity --replace in order to see the changes.

  When did this regression happen:
Last known working configuration was 28 July 2014.

The problem started with the update to linux kernel 3.13.0-20-generic,
where temporarily fixed by booting 3.13.0-19-generic but it seems like
every kernel is affected since now this workaround doesn't help either.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1397483] [NEW] Unity restores windows to random workspaces on system resume

2014-11-28 Thread Rocko
Public bug reported:

When I suspend and resume my latop, my windows, which were originally
all in one workspace, are restored to different workspaces (apparently
at random).

For windows not in the current workspace after resume, the unity
launcher indicates that they are running, but clicking on them has no
effect (it doesn't bring the window to the foreground). These windows
also do not appear in the task switcher so you can't switch to them.

If I have workspaces enabled, this is annoying but can be manually
corrected by showing all workspaces and dragging the windows to the
current workspace.

If I have workspaces disabled, the windows on the disabled workspaces
cannot be accessed at all.

I would expect the windows to be restored to the same workspace they
were in before suspend (especially if workspaces are disabled), and even
if this were not the case, clicking on their icon in the launcher should
display them as normal.

IIRC this is an issue in Ubuntu 14.04 as well as in Ubuntu 14.10.
