[Dx-packages] [Bug 1170647] Re: After minimizing an external media, clicking on the Files icon on the Launcher doesn't restore the minimized window, but opens a new one
The problem here is that the Ubuntu developers decided that when you click the file manager icon, your home folder should open. So, when the trash (or a device) is open, clicking the file manager icon opens a new window with the home folder. Even Mark Shuttleworth said that's the intended behavior: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/769515/comments/3 This traded one usability problem by another! When only the trash in open, for example, the file manager icon is also highlighted, and Unity indicates with two arrows that the file manager is open and focused. Also, the windows is minimized/restored to/from that icon. If this behavior is to be kept, these issues should be fixed because they are very misleading. Or just revert the behavior! If you put the cursor over the file manager icon, the tooltip says Files, not Home Folder. So, why would the user expect that this icon is used only to open the home folder? My vote goes to reverting this behavior (someone provided a patch already). Just my humble opinion. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Click on the Files icon. EXPECTED BEHAVIOUR - The Files window to be maximized. REAL BEHAVIOUR - A new window is opened. RELEVANT DETAILS - The only way to navigate between windows at this moment is to use the control + tabulation key combination, or to click again on the Files icon so windows are exposed. ** SOLUTION ** WORK-AROUND - On the launcher, left click on the Files icon and select the unlock from Launcher option. FIX - The launcher icon for Files to be treated the same way as if it was unlocked. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1397517] [NEW] Unity Screen Brightness Settings not Preserved on Reboot
Public bug reported: Whenever Unity starts it sets the screen brightness to maximum, even when the laptop is on battery. Lowering the screen brightness doesn't persist across reboots. To reproduce: 1. Start laptop (in this case a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro) in battery mode (i.e. disconnected from the AC adaptor) 2. Unity will start in maximum brightness. Lower brightness using keyboard brightness keys. 3. Shutdown laptop and start it back up again (still with the AC adapter disconnected) Expected result: The screen brightness settings should be preserved across reboots Actual result: After each new start Unity sets the screen brightness to maximum, meaning the user has to remember to manually reduce it or the battery will be quickly used up ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: unity 7.2.3+14.04.20140826-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-40.69-generic 3.13.11.10 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-40-generic x86_64 .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3.5 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: [core, bailer, detection, composite, opengl, compiztoolbox, decor, imgpng, mousepoll, vpswitch, unitymtgrabhandles, gnomecompat, regex, move, grid, place, wall, animation, snap, resize, fade, session, expo, workarounds, scale, ezoom, unityshell] CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Sat Nov 29 11:59:31 2014 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: trusty DistroVariant: ubuntu GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0a16] (rev 0b) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Lenovo Device [17aa:3978] InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-09-16 (73 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-Server 14.04 LTS Trusty Tahr - Release amd64 (20140416.2) MachineType: LENOVO 20266 ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-3.13.0-40-generic.efi.signed root=/dev/mapper/MainVG-root ro video.use_native_backlight=1 quiet splash vt.handoff=7 SourcePackage: unity UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 03/25/2014 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: 76CN35WW dmi.board.asset.tag: No Asset Tag dmi.board.name: Yoga2 dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: 31900058STD dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Tag dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvr76CN35WW:bd03/25/2014:svnLENOVO:pn20266:pvrLenovoYoga2Pro:rvnLENOVO:rnYoga2:rvr31900058STD:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvrLenovoYoga2Pro: dmi.product.name: 20266 dmi.product.version: Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.11.2+14.04.20140714-0ubuntu1 version.ia32-libs: ia32-libs N/A version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.52-1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 10.1.3-0ubuntu0.2 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 10.1.3-0ubuntu0.2 version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.15.1-0ubuntu2.1 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.8.2-1ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:7.3.0-1ubuntu3.1 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.910-0ubuntu1.3 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:1.0.10-1ubuntu2 xserver.bootTime: Fri Nov 28 23:10:38 2014 xserver.configfile: default xserver.errors: xserver.logfile: /var/log/Xorg.0.log xserver.outputs: product id 16970 vendor SDC xserver.version: 2:1.15.1-0ubuntu2.1 ** Affects: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug compiz-0.9 third-party-packages trusty ubuntu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. The behavior appears similar to this bug from 2011: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity-2d/+bug/830348 On resume from suspend, screen contents are displayed for a brief time (perhaps 0.5 to 1 sec) before the lock dialog appears. These screen contents are not always the desktop or open application beneath the lock screen. On at least one occasion, the screen showed content from a full-screen video that had been playing in Firefox some time before the computer had been suspended: neither the video nor its underlying tab were open anymore, so the image(s) was likely part of a buffer somewhere. (Needless to say, if the wrong full-screen video had been watched, depending on the setting, this could be a quite serious issue for some users). I have not exhaustively tested conditions in which this appears. However, just now, the bug did not appear when keeping the lid open, suspending, and then resuming with the power button. But when suspending from menu, closing the lid, then opening the lid and moving the mouse, the screen displayed contents before showing the lock dialog. The image displayed was of the desktop (with this bug reporting window) and showed the suspend item in the power menu being highlighted/clicked. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1330889] Re: Keyboard shortcuts open window in background
This used to not be an issue in previous versions of Ubuntu. Has been for at least the last couple of versions. I have exactly the same symptoms as original poster. Problem occurs when setting shortcuts in either keyboard:shortcuts or in ccsm (compiz): general: commands Tried changing settings in ccsm: general options: focus raise behaviour and found that turning off 'focus prevention level' allowed for gedit and nemo to open in the foreground even with previous instances running. However not sure this is a proper fix since without modifying this, the behaviour was inconsistent (ex shortcuts to genome- calculator could bring up multiple instances in the foreground, but not with gedit or nemo), and this may allow unwanted popups in the foreground such as system updates. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Matching subscriptions: dx-packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1330889 Title: Keyboard shortcuts open window in background Status in Unity: New Status in unity package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Hi, When opening an application through a keyboard shortcut I defined (of the sort Ctrl+Alt+[some letter]), it often happens that the application is opened in a window that is kept in the background. The phenomenon happens every time with certain shortcuts (those pointing to thunderbird, firefox or a custom shortcut to nautilus in a specific folder), never with others (custom shortcut for gnome-terminal in a specific folder), and depends with yet others (it seems that a shortcut to Gedit will pop up nicely in the foreground if gedit is closed, but otherwise will open a new document and keep the gedit window in the background). The phenomenon happens on two fresh installs of Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. It basically kills all the interest of defining efficient keyboard shortcuts. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1397587] [NEW] Volume display does not update when changing default sink
Public bug reported: On my laptop I often have two PulseAudio sinks, the on-board audio (alsa_output.pci-_00_1b.0.analog-stereo) and a Bluetooth speaker (bluez_sink.8C_DE_52_2F_AF_F3). I can choose the default destination for sound output using the Sound pane of System Settings, and I can separately change the volume setting of each sink using the paman application. When I adjust the volume using the sound menu, it affects the default sink. However, when I change to a different default sink, the sound menu does not update and continues displaying the volume for the previously-selected sink. Only if I change the volume setting for one of the sinks (e.g. using paman) does the sound menu update to show the new volume level. To reproduce: Find a system with more than one sound sink. Launch paman and open the Properties window for each sink. Also open the Sound pane of System Settings. Set one sink to maximum volume and one to minumum. Switch between outputs using Systems Settings, and note that the sound menu does not update to match the different volume settings of the two sinks.
