Bug description:
New keyboard layout changer in Ubuntu 13.10 introduce old-new bug. Any
system or application hotkey witch use char (for example: ctrl+alt+t for
terminal or ctrl+t for new tab in browser) become unfunctional when selected
non-latin keyboard layout.
Hotkeys with F1-12, numbers and other non-character buttons works perfectly.

Window manager hotkeys not affected by this bug. All hotkeys in system
parameters-keyboard-hotkeys-windows works perfect with any keyboard
  layout.

Workaround for some system hotkeys and two layouts (english and non-
latin): rebind all hotkeys in your local layout. For example instead
of ctrl+alt+t use ctrl+alt+τ (greek tau). That hotkey still work with
english layout. If you use english and two different non-latin
layouts this workaround helps only with one of them.

  Dear Ubuntu users and developers!
Please include the following information to your comment about non-latin
shortcuts problems:
  1. What Ubuntu version do you have (Ubuntu 13.10, Ubuntu 13.10 GNOME, Ubuntu
14.04, Ubuntu 14.04 GNOME and so on), upgraded (describe version) or clean
installed
  2. What keyboard layout do you have
  3. What shortcut for keyboard layout switching do you use
  4. On which session you have problems - that is one from Unity, GNOME Shell,
GNOME FlashBack/Fallback (Metacity), GNOME FlashBack/Fallback (Compiz)
  5. With which program and its version and origin (Ubuntu repositories, PPA,
non-deb binary package from some website) you have problems.

By providing this information you can make bug-fixing much simpler and
  may be faster.

Unity shortcuts (Super+A/F/M/C/V) do not work on non-latin layout in
Trusty - shortcuts are defined via keyboard layout, not the keys

Status in Unity:

Status in unity package in Ubuntu:

Status in unity-settings-daemon package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
There are shortcuts to open lenses in Unity, for example Super + A
for App Lens, or Super + F for Files Lens, etc. There are also
shortcuts in the Launcher Super + 1 to 9 to launch apps from the
Launcher. These shortcuts don't work if the keyboard layout is set to
a non-Latin layout, in my case Persian, where almost all the keys are
  mapped to new characters.

  HOW TO REPRODUCE:
Add a new Persian keyboard layout to the system, in addition to English, via
keyboard layout indicator -- Text Entry Settings.
Switch to the Persian layout (by clicking on the keyboard layout indicator).
  Press Super + F.

  WHAT HAPPENS:
Dash is not open. Nothing happens.

  WHAT SHOULD HEPPEN:
The Files Lens in the dash should open.
The shortcuts should be associated with the keys on the keyboard, not to the
characters they are associated with (which depends on the active keyboard
layout).
When I am typing something in Persian, and I want to search for a file, it is
not reasonable that I should first switch back to the English layout before I
can use a particular shortcut.

This problem does not happen in some other apps like gedit or Firefox.

  COMPARE TO GEDIT:
  Open gedit text editor.
  Write something.
  Switch to the Persian layout.
Press Ctrl + S (the shortcut to save the document).

WHAT HAPPENS, AND WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN:
  The save dialoge box appears.

I think this problem happens for all keyboard layouts that don't use Latin
characters.
Layout-wise, when I press Ctrl + S while Persian layout is active, I am
typing Ctrl + س.
But keyboard-wise, I am always pressing the same keyboard binding.

What you should see: A Restart... item between Suspend and Shut Down

This is a regression of bug 815077. In 2011 we thought it might be a
good idea to demote Restart to an extra button in the Shut Down
dialog, but we were wrong. So we moved it back to a top-level item in

The special Thinkpad button, often called ThinkVantage button, used

[Dx-packages] [Bug 743823] Re: Battery indicator goes Critical Red with 1:10 battery left

Title:
Battery indicator goes Critical Red with 1:10 battery left

Status in Ayatana Design:
  Fix Released
Status in The Power Indicator:
  Fix Released
Status in indicator-power package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: ubuntu-mono

Since the Ubuntu-Monochrome 0.0.26 upload, the battery status icon now
goes critical red with over an hour to spare.

We need to confirm this in Ayatana-Design, but my hunch is the
  following would be more useful:

external power: normal text colour (ivory/chocolate for Ambiance/Radiance)
    =1:00 remaining: normal text colour
     1:00 remaining: orange non-critical warning
    =0:10 remaining: red critical warning
=0:02 remaining: red critical warning if suspend/hibernate action selected
and proven working
=0:02 remaining: red critical (flashing) warning if simply going to
power-off

Additionally, the Ubuntu Mono 0.0.26 change uses a battery icon with
no fill for empty. This is not as clear to the user as an icon that
instead uses a very small fill at end of the battery, even for zero.
This is more intuitive as it makes it clear that the icon is used as a
percentage indicator; with an empty fill the user must already know
this for empty to be useful as a relative indicator.

At the moment, the Red with some left state seen at 1:10 remaining
is far more visible to the user than the (more serious) completely
  empty icon.

  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tzdata/+bug/228554
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/517621

  Steps to recreate:

  1) Install Ubuntu and select Simplified Chinese for the language.

  Actual Results:
At the timezone page, the default city is Shanghai.

  Expected Results:
Most Chinese users prefer it be set to Beijing.

It looks as if the upstream tz database needs to be updated for
Beijing for starters, as Beijing is not listed in there.

Title:
Overview mode - add option for the name windows to make it always
  visible

Status in Unity:
  Triaged
Status in unity package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Can I make a overview mode, the name of each window, for example in
Nautilus, would always show, not only for the transition to the desired window.
The rest is left as it is - when you go to the window title is slightly
increased, and it is highlighted, perhaps it is necessary to consider the
allocation of the selected window, for example, to increase its illumination.
So it would be easier to navigate not only the image, which can be nearly
identical in several windows, but also in parallel by location/name of
application windows.
I think the idea increases the convenience and comfort of using the system
... the details of the implementation can certainly think.
  P.S. Ubuntu 14.04 -15.04

  Example attached.

Title:
add custom sources to screenshot, for local applications

Status in Unity:
  Opinion
Status in unity package in Ubuntu:
  Opinion

Bug description:
I have some local 'apps', that I use to make myself more productive.
While searching for the it via the DASH. I right clicked it to preview
it. And I found out there is no screen-shot(naturally), of my app.
Apparently to add a screen-shot to the unity dash, is by uploading it
here: http://screenshots.debian.net/upload, and that can only be done,
if there is an existing application, to upload a screen-shot for.

My apps are purely for my benefit and solely made for my current
setup. I don't think it would benefit anyone else.

My feature request - the short version - is: make it so that one
could add there own screen-shot sources/direct link:

  1.
  screenshot_sources {
'custom_path_to_screenshot'
  }

  2.
  screenshot_MyApp {
'custom_path_to_screenshot/MyApp.png'
  }

  Or via the `.desktop` file.

  Screenshot=/home/blah/MyApp/MyApp-screenshot.png

  LONG VERSION:

I may not be with a company that uses Ubuntu as there default work
horse, but companies could definitely use such a feature. Most
companies have there own set of apps, some even developed in house.
It would be beneficial that those app could also be further integrated
in to the unity desktop without having to post there existence online.
I'm not just talking about screen-shot, although my knowledge is
somewhat limited on how far one could integrate there app in to unity,
locally. For that I leave you to your imagination.

This is just a feature that would make me more happier than I am right
now with Ubuntu. And I think it could make others happy to.

If you implement it, or not, I still wanna thank the team for taking
the time to look at this, and for all the hard work you guys put into
  Ubuntu.

Bug description:
Several times over the last week I have noticed that the when I start
firefox, the default icon is replaced by a grey square with a question mark in
the center as shown in the attached image.
The only fix I've found is to unlock firefox from the launcher, quit the
program, search for firefox in the dash, manually drag the icon onto the
launcher, and then open it(i.e. if I start firefox directly from the dash, the
grey icon appears on the launcher again).
I haven't noticed this occurring with any other program.
