Bug description:
As discussed with rsalveti and pmcgowan in #phablet on 14 Jan

There are two issues in the datetime notification code that need to be
  changed.

  1. Right now we only set role=alarm if the sound is looping; ie if it's an
alarm clock event rather than calendar event.
Set calendar event role to alert

  2. Calendar events shouldn't play in silent mode. We can test for
silent mode on the bus, http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~phablet-team
  /telephony-
  service/trunk/view/head:/libtelephonyservice/greetercontacts.cpp has
  an example: getUserValue(com.ubuntu.touch.AccountsService.Sound,

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1414230] [NEW] v14.04 screen garbled upon restart with external monitor

2015-01-23 Thread Viswa B
Public bug reported:

I have installed Ubuntu 14.04 on a Acer Aspire One 722. Everything works
fine on the laptop by itself. But if I connect the laptop to an external
monitor (a HDTV in this instance) via a HDMI cable, the display on the
laptop screen and on the external monitor work fine:

1) until I close the screen of the laptop while the laptp is still on,
let it go to sleep, and then open the screen and restart. At that point
the laptop and external montor screens are black with some garbled
characters. There is no way to recover the laptop but shut it down and
perform a cold boot.

2) and continue to do so if I use the suspend command (from the drop
down menu from the top right corner of the screen). The laptop and the
external monitor go dark when the computer suspends. Upon waking both
the laptop screen and the external monitor work fine. Needless to say
closing the lid after using the suspend command makes no difference.

Any clues on what could be happening when I close the lid of the laptop
to suspend the laptop?

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1313446] Re: window disappears on toggle shade

2015-01-23 Thread arm-c
DATA LOSS: I would like to up vote this because I have in-directly
experienced data loss by having a window with input (email) that I went
always on top and then shadded. My email disappeared. I had no way
to get back to it unless I clossed the browser windows that were
visible... only then did it re-appear. HOWEVER, that window had lost
connection to my server at that point, so the data was lost.

I would like very much for this to get fixed. The Always on top and
shade feature has long been a strong point for my linux use and
workflow. Unity has grown a lot and I now uaually find it the DE I
prefer to work in unless I need shaded windows and so forth...

I used Unity Tweak Tool to enable Toggle Shade using middle click.
When I click to top of the window, it rolls up and disappears. A
ghost outline of the window appears and the only way to get the
window back is by using Alt-tab. Sometimes, when reselecting the
window using Alt-tab, Ubuntu freezes (crashes) and an internal error
is generated. It seems to be related to Compiz but I'm not sure. An
error report was generated and sent.

  Description: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (64-bit)
  Release: 14.04

I expected the window would roll up and I'd be left with the
window's top bar like with previous versions of Ubuntu.

Global menu bar snatches defeat from the jaws of victory, à la Windows

Status in Unity:
  Expired
Status in unity package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
There is a really old usability bug relating to mouse accuracy, which
Ubuntu 14.04 has rediscovered in its global menu.

Basically, it's super easy to move your pointer fast and hard to the
extreme edge and corners of the screen, so you can hit targets placed
there quickly. But the global menu only activates if the cursor is a
pixel or two from the top of the screen. This is a massive usability
  bug.

The example from the 90s (yes, 20 years ago) is that Win 95's start
button was offset from the bottom left corner by a couple of pixels.
That made it hard for people to hit, and if they'd only put it flush
with the bottom left it would have been way way easier to click. Hence
snatching defeat from the jaws of victory - e.g. in this post from
  2000 http://www.joelonsoftware.com/uibook/chapters/fog63.html

Hopefully this is an easy fix: extend the mouseover activation area
for the global menu to the top of the screen. Right to the top zeroth
  row of pixels. Please?

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1413929] [NEW] switching monitors scrambles windows on virtual desktops

2015-01-23 Thread Roland Bock
Public bug reported:

I am using my laptop in two ways: stand-alone and connected to an
external monitor with a different resolution. I have configured 6
virtual workspaces (3 horizontal, times 2 vertical).

Each time I switch from one to the other (which is about 5 times a day),
windows are moved to other workspaces. This is highly annoying since I
keep like to keep certain windows in certain workspaces.

Not only are windows moved, also the Window-spread (super-w) is confused
and shows windows which are not on the current workspace. Also switching
from window to window (alt-tab) can make windows be moved to another
workspace sporadically.

All this tends to stabilize once I move some windows back to where they
belong, but when I switch monitors again or hibernate: Bam! Chaos again.

I'll have to try other window managers. As of now, this is pretty much unusable
for me.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1003950] Re: launcher does not show minimized update manager while clicked

2015-01-23 Thread dess
Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic (clean install): Just got the window (classic way:
updates became available), can keep it for while in case further testing
needed.

The session was locked (login screen) when update-manager was spawned.
Multiple workspaces enabled.

@3v1n0 , comment #24

Since gdbus command failed to give xid, I've got Windows Id's by the
PID of the following process:

$ ps aux | grep update-manager
user 29081 0.0 0.8 631432 82812 ?SNl 07:45 0:08
/usr/bin/python3 /usr/bin/update-manager --no-update --no-focus-on-map

There are two of them, attaching output of xprop and xwininfo here.

Update manager is showing up in the dock but I can click on the icon
all day and nothing happens. Similarly if I do Super-S or Super-W it
  doesn't show up anywhere.

Even if I alt-tab to the application nothing shows up. This happens
only when update manager runs on its own. If I kill it and then launch

  How to reproduce on Utopic:

  1. sudo apt-get install Numix
  2. sudo apt-get install gnome-tweak-tool
  3. change Gtk theme to Numix
  4. Open any app with Gtk-Headerbar ( NOT directly patched by Ubuntu) like
gnome-tweak-tool, gnome-system-log
  2. enable show-desktop on unity launcher
  3. Click on show-desktop first time. it will show desktop.
  4. Click on it again, it crashes compiz sometimes does not recover from it.
Users have to fallback to TTY force restart lightdm.

The problem also occurs for any headerbar app from Gnom3 ppa (for
  example gnome-contacts, baobab, gnome-maps).

  Attached crash file from /var/crash/compiz.

Note: Compiz on other desktop shell/session works relatively well. For
example in Gnome-Flashback-Compiz session it doesn't happen.

Bug description:
Lightdm should not emit logind unlock signal when the user is not
prompted for a password. This can lead to a security issue:

  # Log-in (unity session).
  # Add the current user to nopasswdlogin group.
  # Lock the sessions.
  # Session indicator-Switch account...
  # Login in again.

  Expected behavior:
  The lockscreen is still active.

  Current behavior:
  The session in unlocked.

We could workaround the issue directly in unity, but IMHO would be
cleaner to avoid that lightdm is emitting the logind signal.

Bug description:
  krillin #198

Repeating alarm is disabled after the first time it goes off.

  Test Case:
  1. Setup a repeating alarm (everyday from Monday to Friday for example) and
enable it
  2. Close the clock app
  3. Wait until it goes off
  4. Dismiss it (and wait maybe 1 min or 2 so indicator is updated with next
occurrence)
  5. Resume the device
  6. Launch the clock app
  7. Go the alarms and verify the status of the alarm

  Actual Result:
The alarm is disabled but it shows in the indicator.
The next and next-next occurrences of the alarm are scheduled correctly.

  Expected Result
  Alarm is still enabled.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1413790] Re: It's possible to bypasss lockscreen if user is in nopasswdlogin group.

2015-01-23 Thread Marc Deslauriers
In fact, the User Accounts applet in the Settings allows creating a user
with no password by putting it in the nopasswdlogin group, but as soon
as the screen lock comes up, the user is unable to unlock the screen.

So the screen lock definitely needs to honour the nopasswdlogin group,
and this is a bug with no real security implications.
