[Dx-packages] [Bug 1474078] Re: Provide a way to disable notifications from calendar events

2015-07-23 Thread Kunal Parmar
From calendar we can add field to Collection to indicate if Notification
is enabled or not. Notification service can read same field and decide
to fire notification or not.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
  When scaling is set to a value different to 1.0 and the user performs a dash
search and right clicks a result, the Preview is always rendered with scale
factor 1.0.

  [Test case]
  1. From Unity Control Center - Displays - Change the monitor scaling to
somewhat
 different from 1.0 (might be both bigger and smaller, your choice).
  2. Open the dash, [search something], right click over a result
  3. The preview items should respect the previously set monitor scaling

  [Regression potential]
  This is a big change that involved lots of changes in the unity dash code,
although we
  didn't notice any regression due to this change. At the contrary we improved
a lot the old code we worked on. Although it's still possible that some
component of the dash previews might be hidden/distorted or not shown as it
used to be.

Bug description:
  indicator-datetime needs a way to dispatch an arbitrary URL when a
  user clicks on an ical event menuitem.

  In practice, datetime currently has clock-app hardwired for
  dispatching alarms (dispatch_url('appid://com.ubuntu.clock/clock
  /current-user-version')) and calendar-app for everything else
  (dispatch_url('appid://com.ubuntu.calendar/calendar/current-user-
  version')).

  There are two use cases that can be supported by datetime handling the
  URL property http://www.kanzaki.com/docs/ical/url.html:

  (1) Clicking on an alarm menuitem opens up clock-app to that specific
  alarm, rather than to clock-app's main page. Clock-app could specify
  the information it needs in the URL, then open the right page when
  passed that information later. indicator-datetime would act as a
  simple pass-through.

  (2) non-calendar, non-alarm items such as from the reminders app as
  requested by mzanetti. The pattern would be the same as clock-app:
  Reminders would add whatever URL it wants, then datetime would act as
  a simple pass-through. This is preferable to adding more special cases
  to indicator-datetime.

  See also related bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
  /indicator-datetime/+bug/1431384 which discusses abstracting out the
  icon shown in ical events' menuitems

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1475623] Re: zeitgeist ftbfs with GCC 5

2015-07-23 Thread Robert Ancell
I think the issue is the std::string object is going out of scope in the
tests. The tests are like this:

g_assert_cmpstr (std::string (scheme_no_spaces_in_uris), ==,
StringUtils::MangleUri(scheme:no spaces in uris).c_str ());

Inside the g_assert_cmpstr macro the two strings are stored in
variables. Nothing is left holding the result of MangleUri () so the
result from c_str () is no longer valid. I guess GCC 5.1 is more
agressive in destroying the std:string than it used to be?

Note this only happens in the tests with strings 15 characters in
length. I suspect that must be the boundary where std::string starts
mallocing the contents.

  8 - Close the dialog (ESC)

  Expected:
  - Focus goes back to the main window.

  What happens:
  - Focus goes to the detached view.

  I think this is a unity bug because I did the same test under Fedora 22
(Gnome 3), Lubuntu and Kubuntu and all of them presented the expected behaviour.
  Also, while I was editing some screenshots using gimp in multi window mode,
something even stranger happened:
  After doing step 8 on eclipse, the focus did not even go to eclipse, it went
to one of the gimp windows.

  Also I tried to disable all compiz plugins that unity does not depend
  on, but the behaviour kept the same.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1459671] Re: focus goes to the wrong window after a modal dialog is closed

2015-07-23 Thread Guilherme Quentel Melo
I decided to investigate this problem and checked out the source code.
After a lot of debugging I found out that the call to focus the wrong
window is coming from compiz CompScreenImpl::focusDefaultWindow which
comes from this code on compiz event.cpp :

else if (event-xfocus.window == privateScreen.rootWindow())
{
/* Don't ever let the focus go to the root
 * window except in grab cases
 *
 * FIXME: There might be a case where we have to
 * handle root windows of other screens here, but
 * the other window managers should handle that
 */

if (event-xfocus.detail == NotifyDetailNone ||
(event-xfocus.mode == NotifyNormal
 event-xfocus.detail == NotifyInferior))
{
privateScreen.orphanData.activeWindow = None;

if (event-xfocus.detail == NotifyDetailNone ||
(event-xfocus.mode == NotifyNormal
 event-xfocus.detail == NotifyInferior))
{
screen-focusDefaultWindow ();
}
}
}

The FIXME comment is very suspicious but I have no idea what would be the
solution.
I'm adding an attachment file with the stacktrace.

Title:
  focus goes to the wrong window after a modal dialog is closed

Status in Unity:
  Confirmed
Status in unity package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce on Ubuntu 15.04:

  1 - Install eclipse with apt-get install eclipse
  2 - Start eclipse
  3 - Create a new project
  4 - Create a file in the newly created project
  5 - Detach any view (the task view , for example)
  6 - Open the created file, or just focus on its editor
  7 - Open any modal dialog (resources dialog for example (ctrl + shift + r))

  [clock] Snooze time more than 10 minutes

Status in Ubuntu Clock App:

Status in indicator-datetime package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Can we have snooze times that are more than 10 minutes? Perhaps full
  flexibility in specifying a duration (some times I like to use 15m,
  but I guess more than 30 or 60 minutes would be too much).

https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1JvDyhsW17d1-Mz8OY1YMBKwfRI2z9qgyRjbujEsxEMk/edit?pli=1#slide=id.g18895458d_024

  [UX Comment]
  As it seems unlikely that we will be able to implement snooze on/off snooze
duration for individual alarms, but do have an application-wide setting that
allows snooze duration to be set (but not disabled), I'd recommend the options
relating to snooze in application settings be changed to the following:

  - No snooze
  - 5 minutes
  - 10 minutes
  - 15 minutes

  This way the list is still short (four options, as it is currently)
  but the options provided are likely to be more useful (current 2
  minute snooze doesn't seem very useful, nor does the difference
  between 4 mins and 5 min snooze periods).

Title:
  December 2013 updates to 12.04 LTS cause multiple problems

Status in Unity:
  New
Status in unity package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  December 2013 and January 2014 updates have caused numerous usability
  problems. Some disappear, then reappear. All the following are
  current.

  1. Firefox and Thunderbird no longer find internet connection when
  connected wirelessly. System reports wireless connection is
  established and working, but neither FF nor TB cab find it. Wired
  connection works OK. This problem first appeared in early December
  and has continued to date (January 24, 2014).

  2. Booting HP Pavilion dv6 laptop fails when external power is
  connected. Boots OK on battery alone. Bug reported. Problem
  appeared after January 1, 2014.

  3. Firefox loses tab history -- it's still there, but inaccessable
  unless I reboot.  Long-standing issue.

  4. Right-click no longer works in Firefox. Can't copy or cut-and-
  paste.

  5. After running for more than a few hours, Firefox window frames
  become transparent and Firefox no longer works.

  6. When using LibreOffice, screen updates cause brief, but very
  annoying, display flashing or blanking. Blanking is sometimes
  extended up to ten seconds. (AMD A-8 quad-core processor with 6 GB
  main memory!).  Very alarming.

  7. Lost ability to scroll, etc. using gestures shortly after
  January 1, 2014.

  8. Unity magically appearing/disappearing scroll tabs replaced
  Gnome's hard scrollbars. That's not nice. I don't like them.

  9. Firefox never, ever restores automagically (though it always did
  in 10.04 LTS and does on Linux Mint). This issue has been outstanding
  for two years, or more. No biggie, but it's annoying and very
  unprofessional. Two bugs reported on this vs. Oneric! C'mon, people.
  Surely you can do better than that.

  This system is single-boot Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Gnome 3/Unity on an ext4
  filesystem, installed about August 6, 2012 and kept up to date.

  What happened to the concept that 12.04 was to be a stable release?
  This is the most unstable *n*x OS release I have ever used since 1999
  (SuSE 5 through 8, Ubuntu 8.04, 10.04, Mint 13 and 14).  This nonsense
  makes Microsoft Windows almost seem desirable. I also use Linux Mint
  14 on other boxes, an HP Pavilion dv7 and a Dell Optiplex GX620.
  None of these issues affect Mint 14, although it is based on Ubuntu
  12.04 LTS (Mint 14 has its own issues, but none affect usability like
  these do).  Unity sucks stumpwater.

  Unity panels steal input events while under (some) fullscreen windows

Status in Unity:

Bug description:

  I have 3x 1920x1080 monitors arranged horizontally. Unity is configured to
duplicate the launcher on every monitor.

  Video cards:

  2x AMD R270 in CrossfireX
  Driver: fglrx-updates (because the open source driver would always kill my X
session when I open any LibreOffice app)

  Description:

  When telling an application to go full screen, it is correctly
  displayed full screen; however, when clicking in that full screen
  window, the Unity panels (hidden underneath) will steal its input
  events.

  Problems with:

   - Chromium playing any YouTube video full screen
   - VMware Player in full screen mode

  No problem with:

   - Chromium browsing any website while in full screen browsing mode (e.g.
pressing F11)
   - Chromium playing any YouTube video full screen *after* pressing F11 to put
browser in full screen mode
   - Default movie player playing video in full screen mode

  As a layman, it appears there are multiple methods for an application to go
full screen, and at least one of those methods is not handled properly by
either Unity or something related to the window manager.
