Bug description:
  A cousin of bug #1354406

Some of the early testers are hitting a use case that we didn't
account for, that of multiple alarms set for the same time.

Indicator-datetime currently tries to pull up notifications for, and
play sounds for, both notifications. That's happening by accident and
is clearly not the right approach.

I can think of a couple of approaches we might take:

  -- SOLUTION --
If 2 or more alarms have been triggered, the notification at any time will
display:
Title: 2 Alarms
Subtitle: [Label 1] 10:00, [Label 2] 10:01

The sound of the first alarm will be played. If they have the same
time, the one that has been created first.

Please note that this app does *not* have any code to set the volume! Also
this app is one of the upstream Qt QML example demo apps, so this is really how
QML apps are supposed to work (in other words, it is not a badly implemented
app, but really an issue in the system)

  1. Launch three windows/instances of the same program (ctrl+alt+t).
  2. Notice the indicator next to the application icon in the Launcher now
shows three tick marks.
  3. Minimize the three launched programs.
  4. Notice the indicator next to the application icon in the Launcher now
shows one arrow.

Now use Alt+Tab. One can access only one of the minimized programs.
Also holding Alt will not let one to select any of the other instances of the
same program.
Using Alt+Section does not let one to select any of the other instances of
the same program.

This means one can access the minimized programs only by popping them
visible, one by one, from the Launcher.

This behaves differently than in Ubuntu 14.10, for example.

Status in Ubuntu UX:

Bug description:
  Version: ubuntu-touch/devel-proposed/krillin.en r59 krillin

  Steps to reproduce:
   * Use either the hardware buttons or the slider on the sound indicator to
modify sound level
   * Drop the sound to minimum

  Expected result:
   - the sound level icons used on the indicator and on the OSD popup should
match so the user has a consistent understanding of the state of the phone

  Actual result:
   - At minimum the OSD popup shows a speaker next a cross whereas on the
indicator it is a speaker next to dark grey segments (a speaker with a cross is
used to indicator silent mode)

While half asleep and when I want to snooze, it's too easy to hit the
wrong button and accidentally turn off the alarm instead of activating
  the snooze option.

I expect the snooze button to be more easily available, and for the
turn off button to be made harder to activate - for example with a
  slide or something.

Other phones I've had have had the snooze button much bigger, or the
snooze activate when the phone is turned over, or something like that,
to assist with preventing accidental alarm switch off.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1401802] Re: [Scopes] Calendar reminder notifications became queued, non-interactive and easy to miss

2015-08-05 Thread Paty Davila
** Description changed:

With the recent indicator-datetime update the reminder notifications time out
and are not interactive any more, meaning that:
  - can't dismiss (have to wait for the sound/notification to time out)
  - can't snooze (I know the feature didn't work, but that was a missing
feature, not a thing we didn't want?)
  - if you missed the notification, you missed the reminder

Not sure if the reason is the same, but they started queueing, too, i.e.
if there's two reminders for the same time, sound will play for both
(bug #1340248), but the two notifications will be shown one after
  another.

This is a UX regression in my opinion, even if it fixes bug #1320880.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1358890] Re: [Notifications] Competing notifications when two alarms kick at the same time

2015-08-05 Thread Paty Davila
** Description changed:

  A cousin of bug #1354406

Some of the early testers are hitting a use case that we didn't account
for, that of multiple alarms set for the same time.

Indicator-datetime currently tries to pull up notifications for, and
play sounds for, both notifications. That's happening by accident and is
  clearly not the right approach.

I can think of a couple of approaches we might take:

  -- SOLUTION --
If 2 or more alarms have been triggered, the notification at any time will
display:
- Title: 2 Alarms
- Subtitle: [Label 1] 10:00, [Label 2] 10:01
+   Title: 2 Alarms
+   Subtitle: [Label 1] 10:00, [Label 2] 10:01

The sound of the first alarm will be played. If they have the same time,
the one that has been created first.
+
+ -- UX Comment --
+
+ Use cases:
+
+ 1 - User sets 2 alarms, at the same time, with same attributes (repeat,
+ label, sound)
+
+ Expected behaviour: Clock app / alarm manager recognise a conflict of
+ newly set alarm time with previously set alarm and rejects it if it’s
+ found same.
+
+ 2 - User sets 2 alarms, at the same time, with (one or more) different
+ attributes (repeat, label, sound)
+
+ Expected behaviour: the alarm that was set in the first place is the one
+ that goes off (with correspondent sound and label) and the second one is
+ fired as a notification bubble.
+
+ 3 - User sets 2 alarms, at different times, even if the difference is 1
+ minute. Then first alarm goes off and second alarm does it one minute
+ after.
+
+ 4 - Several notifications fired at the same time:
+
+ Desired behaviour described here: Page 35: Notifications queuing and
+ flood prevention
+
+
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1xDSZ_dnAMAlhgFnnyjJEibaITXjVLp1_pnj_tATNm9I/edit#heading=h.5ldl02lx6rwi
+
+ In general, applications can fire only one notification at a time, but
+ multiple applications can fire their notification simultaneously. All
+ notifications should be treated as if they are in a queue and will be
+ handled sequentially according to their fire time (in a FIFO manner).

Bug description:
New keyboard layout changer in Ubuntu 13.10 introduce old-new bug. Any
system or application hotkey witch use char (for example: ctrl+alt+t for
terminal or ctrl+t for new tab in browser) become unfunctional when selected
non-latin keyboard layout.
Hotkeys with F1-12, numbers and other non-character buttons works perfectly.

Window manager hotkeys not affected by this bug. All hotkeys in system
parameters-keyboard-hotkeys-windows works perfect with any keyboard
  layout.

Workaround for some system hotkeys and two layouts (english and non-
latin): rebind all hotkeys in your local layout. For example instead
of ctrl+alt+t use ctrl+alt+τ (greek tau). That hotkey still work with
english layout. If you use english and two different non-latin
layouts this workaround helps only with one of them.

  Dear Ubuntu users and developers!
Please include the following information to your comment about non-latin
shortcuts problems:
  1. What Ubuntu version do you have (Ubuntu 13.10, Ubuntu 13.10 GNOME, Ubuntu
14.04, Ubuntu 14.04 GNOME and so on), upgraded (describe version) or clean
installed
  2. What keyboard layout do you have
  3. What shortcut for keyboard layout switching do you use
  4. On which session you have problems - that is one from Unity, GNOME Shell,
GNOME FlashBack/Fallback (Metacity), GNOME FlashBack/Fallback (Compiz)
  5. With which program and its version and origin (Ubuntu repositories, PPA,
non-deb binary package from some website) you have problems.

By providing this information you can make bug-fixing much simpler and
  may be faster.

as they lose focus. The focus stealing does not happen with normal,
  asynchronous notifications.

Here's a quick Python program to reproduce this:

  #!/usr/bin/python
  import gtk
  import time
  def cb (wid, ev):
evtime = time.strftime (%H:%M:%S, time.localtime())
print (%s: Lost focus! % evtime)
  win = gtk.Window()
  win.connect (focus-out-event, cb)
  win.show_all()
  gtk.main()

You could also just start playing Quadrapassel, then adjust your volume :)

Bug description:
In Ubuntu 14.10, the mouse cursor graphic gets corrupted under certain
occasions. It then looks flipped, sheared or shows fragments of a
  previous cursor.

  * when switching the cursor them forth and back in Gnome Tweak Tool
  * when dragdropping a document icon

Maybe related, the cursor does not always show the correct image scale
on a high-dpi display (this was working right in 14.04). For example
after login, or when hovering specific areas, or on mouse down to
start a dragdrop, the cursor appears 1/4 the expected size.

Attached is a photo of a corrupted cursor (whereas a screenshot with
  Gimp showed the uncorrupted cursor).
