[Dx-packages] [Bug 1072206] Re: [nvidia] Window content is black or transparent

2015-08-07 Thread Matthew Glennon
Admittedly, I don't comment here often, so I may be off on the protocol, so
please don't bite the noob.
It seems this bug is closed as Verified Fixed, but I am still suffering from
the issue running 15.04 fully updated.

Bug description:
  [ Impact ]

With nVidia hardware from time to time window content is rendered
black or transparent. The problem manifests more frequently as
  session uptime increases.

Apparently the problem was caused by textures being cached and not
freed, resulting in memory exhaustion conditions. It turns out the
  texture caching is unnecessary anyway.

  [ Test Case ]

Verification requires an nVidia GPU with proprietary drivers. The
problem can not be reproduced at will, only after some time (depending
on resident GPU memory and usage) and even then only randomly and
  unreliably.

  [ Regression Potential ]

It is unlikely this change has the potential to introduce new
  regressions.

  [ Other Info ]

Fix was cherry-picked from the Ubuntu Vivid Vervet dev relase where
it has been in use for some weeks without problem.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1474078] Re: Provide a way to disable notifications from calendar events

2015-08-07 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
I don't see why this is a Calendar bug. System Settings Notifications
screen should automatically list Calendar along with every other app
that has requested a notification since it was last installed. The
Calendar app shouldn't need to do anything special for that. If app
developers have to do anything special to show up in the list, sometimes
they'll forget.

Still no notification alert. That's really bad, if there is no
notification, you can't use this. Without checking every few minutes the
phone, you really miss messages. Many times I get in trouble with my
wife, when she told me, that she send me message in Telegram and I don't
realize it. She waited hours for me.. :-(

hardware button on the phone. It will temporarily decrease the volume.
However, whenever a new item comes into the scene, it will be on 100%
  volume again.

Setting the system volume to 0 should keep everything at 0.

Please note that this app does *not* have any code to set the volume! Also
this app is one of the upstream Qt QML example demo apps, so this is really how
QML apps are supposed to work (in other words, it is not a badly implemented
app, but really an issue in the system)

Title:
December 2013 updates to 12.04 LTS cause multiple problems

Status in Unity:
  New
Status in unity package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
December 2013 and January 2014 updates have caused numerous usability
problems. Some disappear, then reappear. All the following are
  current.

  1. Firefox and Thunderbird no longer find internet connection when
connected wirelessly. System reports wireless connection is
established and working, but neither FF nor TB cab find it. Wired
connection works OK. This problem first appeared in early December
and has continued to date (January 24, 2014).

  2. Booting HP Pavilion dv6 laptop fails when external power is
connected. Boots OK on battery alone. Bug reported. Problem
  appeared after January 1, 2014.

  3. Firefox loses tab history -- it's still there, but inaccessable
  unless I reboot. Long-standing issue.

  4. Right-click no longer works in Firefox. Can't copy or cut-and-
  paste.

  5. After running for more than a few hours, Firefox window frames
become transparent and Firefox no longer works.

  6. When using LibreOffice, screen updates cause brief, but very
annoying, display flashing or blanking. Blanking is sometimes
extended up to ten seconds. (AMD A-8 quad-core processor with 6 GB
  main memory!). Very alarming.

  7. Lost ability to scroll, etc. using gestures shortly after
  January 1, 2014.

  8. Unity magically appearing/disappearing scroll tabs replaced
Gnome's hard scrollbars. That's not nice. I don't like them.

  9. Firefox never, ever restores automagically (though it always did
in 10.04 LTS and does on Linux Mint). This issue has been outstanding
for two years, or more. No biggie, but it's annoying and very
unprofessional. Two bugs reported on this vs. Oneric! C'mon, people.
Surely you can do better than that.

This system is single-boot Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Gnome 3/Unity on an ext4
filesystem, installed about August 6, 2012 and kept up to date.

What happened to the concept that 12.04 was to be a stable release?
This is the most unstable *n*x OS release I have ever used since 1999
  (SuSE 5 through 8, Ubuntu 8.04, 10.04, Mint 13 and 14). This nonsense
makes Microsoft Windows almost seem desirable. I also use Linux Mint
14 on other boxes, an HP Pavilion dv7 and a Dell Optiplex GX620.
None of these issues affect Mint 14, although it is based on Ubuntu
12.04 LTS (Mint 14 has its own issues, but none affect usability like
  these do). Unity sucks stumpwater.

Bug description:
If, using unity-tweak, you drop the size of launcher icons down to a

There should be a minimum size for badges so that they are always

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1440111] Re: [calendar] Reminder notifications are not integrated into system notifications

2015-08-07 Thread James Mulholland
** Description changed:

The calendar app does not use the standard notification system. You
can't find it in the Notifications area of System Settings, and it
uses its own notification sound regardless of what is set in Sound.

Also, reminders are not muted when the phone is in silent mode (I guess
  it's related).

I'm on bq Aquaris, r20 and with the latest calendar-app.
+
+ --- --- --- ---
+ UX Comment:
+
+ Calendar Notifications need to be overhauled:
+ -- Calendar Notifications are displayed for too brief a period and should
conform to the same timing as other notifications.
+
+ -- Calendar Notifications are not currently appearing in the
+ notification tray within indicators and should be.
+
+ -- Calendar Notification title is misleading ('Alarm') and should make
+ clear that the notification relates to a calendar event ('Event') and
+ not a alarm-clock event.
+
+ -- Calendar Notification's should NOT override silent mode (unlike
+ clock-alarms) although the notification should still be displayed,
+ appear in the notification within indicators and cause the device to
+ vibrate (if enabled) - This is accepted/common behaviour for
+ notifications of this type on mobile.
