This bug is related to this bug: Bug #1293646 (Which is marked as fix
  released)

With latest update of indicator (13.10.0+14.04.20140328-0ubuntu1) it
lists all events for all past selected dates properly (which was fixed
in bug Bug #1293646) except today's date. When I click on any past
  date in calendar it shows:

  1. all all-day events for the day.
  2. all events with time for the day
  3. upcoming (future) all-day events
  4. upcoming (future) events with time

But when I click on today's date it only shows:

  1. future all day events
  2. future events with time

I still have to click on previous day's date to find out all all-day
  events for today.

The behavior (showing all events for a day) should be same for any
  date, including today's date.

  : "If there are more
than five, the events shown should be, in order of priority, * any
events that start or end (a) for today, after the current minute, or
  (b) for any other date, at any time on that date, * any full-day
events that span all of the selected date..."

Bug description:
Add 'launching' state to launcher icons

  Description:

  1. As soon as a user clicks on a app in the Dash Application Lens,
the Launcher should use the 'startup notification protocol' to
*instantly* place a icon for the application in the launcher (in the
'launching' state). As soon as the app has finished launching, the
Launcher icon should switch to the 'running' state.

  2. As soon as a user clicks on a app in the Launcher that is not
running, the Launcher icon should instantaneously switch to the
'launching' state. As soon as the app has finished launching, the
Launcher icon should instantly switch to the 'running' state.

The following art assets will be attached to this bug:

  1. Add 'launching' placeholder Launcher icon to handle the case where
we know an app has launched but we don't have it's icon. *important*
  - this icon should only be used when we know an app has been launched
but we don't know its icon. If we can get the application's icon
quickly we should use this correct icon instead.

https://chinstrap.canonical.com/~sabdfl/11_04/desktop_and_netbook/launcher/unity_desktop_26_01_11_stages_fixed_10.png
(note the outer glow shown in this same design is not the correct
cursor select state, for the correct cursor select state see

https://chinstrap.canonical.com/~sabdfl/11_04/desktop_and_netbook/launcher/select/
  )

  Notes:

   - we flash the backlight of the icon during launch

   - as soon as we have startup notification, we create an item in the
launcher, in grayscale, and start flashing its backlight

   - as soon as we know the desktop file and hence icon, we transition to
the icon backlight from grayscale to an appropriate colouring based on the
icon

Finally we need a instant "flash" on click. See bug #893140 for a
full description of this instant feedback issue.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1308037] Re: No results from application scope

2015-10-14 Thread Iain Lane
I'm unduping this - bug #1295908 says that there are two ways to fix
(try again or check 'applications' in the filters list). This bug is
about being in a state where neither of these cases work - apps are
never returned until unity is restarted.

I got it once again a couple of weeks ago but I forgot to try that apps
lens (comment #6), sorry - will try to remember next time.

** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 1295908
Sometimes applications stop showing up in the Dash

(Ctrl+Alt+F1, pause, Alt+F7), but sometimes when I return the dual

full width of both screens) and many of the windows collect on the

making the users unable to log out using the mouse.

There are arround 100 ubuntu machines for students with 32000 real
users from an active directory. The users cannot see any users real
  name.

I wasn't able to find the right debug symbols, but in the disassembly it
looks like a crash in service.c:321 .
In the attached crash dump the instruction pointer points to 0x4120a0 in
memory, which should be the get_current_realname function.

  static const char *
  get_current_real_name (IndicatorSessionService * self)

threading issues.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1411055] Re: ubuntu-phone recurring alarm gets disabled after 1st event

Hi Sebastien,

The bug has been fixed. Apparently it was not marked as duplicate of the
other bugs. I marked it as Fix released now, however I don't remember in
which image the fix was actually released.

Thanks,

ubuntu-phone recurring alarm gets disabled after 1st event

Status in indicator-datetime package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Hi,
This started some weeks before christmass (not sure exact image).

Currently running vivid image #61 on Mako and the issue is still
  present.

  To reproduce:

  1. Create an alarm that has to be set for Week-days (Most probably any
  recurring setup should work)

  Observed Behavior:

The alarm indicator icon will show up until the first alarm event is reached,
then the alarm indicator disappears and the alarm will no longer be triggered.
If the user tries to re-enable the alarm, it stays enabled for a second, then
gets automatically disabled.
Only way to set the alarm again is to delete it and create a new one that
will also sound only once.

  Expected Behavior:

The alarm indicator must persist until the alarm is manually disabled
by the user or no more events are programmed to occur.

Let me know if more information is needed.

  Thanks,
  Felipe.

I'm assuming the issue is related to Compiz, but I'm not 100% sure.
When I'm switching workspaces, it occasionally locks up (becoming more
frequent). Most of the time, I'm going from the current one down
(Ctrl+Alt+Down Arrow), and it freezes mid slide. Typically, I'm able
to correct things by backing out to a terminal then returning
(Ctrl+Alt+F1, pause, Alt+F7), but sometimes when I return the dual
screen setup acts as one large screen (windows are stretched to the
full width of both screens) and many of the windows collect on the
  first workspace.

  1. Install updates that require restarting the computer to complete

  2. From the system menu, choose "Log Out...".

What should happen: The Log Out dialog has secondary text, “Some

Bug description:
Uninstalled webapps don't appear in the Dash Apps Lens

Because WebApps don't need to be 'installed' in the traditional sense,
and they are very lightweight, we would like to ship 13.04 with all
  WebApps installed by default.

This will solve the problem of WebApps not appearing in the Dash Apps
  Lens.

We will still need the WebApps 'discovery' popup that appears under
the URL bar in the Firefox and Chromium browsers. However we will
need to change the text to say:

"This website is available as an Ubuntu webapp. Would you like to pin
  it's icon to the Launcher?"

The default button text should change to "Pin to Launcher", with a
  secondary option of "No thanks!"

This change mirrors the work we are doing with the Smart Scopes
project where all of the available scopes will be installed by
  default.

In gnome-keybindings-properties, in the Accessibility section, there
are three entries by default: toggle magnifier, toggle screen reader,
and toggle on-screen keyboard. None of these work, whether or not
Assistive Technologies is currently running and whether or not orca is
  currently running.

WHAT I EXPECT TO HAPPEN: I should be able to configure a shortcut to
any of these actions, such as Ctrl-Alt-A to the Toggle magnifier
action. Then, pressing, Ctrl-Alt-A will start the magnifier.

WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS: I am able to modify the entry in the gnome-
keybindings-properties window, but pressing the designated key does
not perform any action. That is, the magnifier does not open. Changing
the hotkeys for other actions works okay.

WHY THIS IS BAD: This is confusing and misleading behavior, and can be
especially damaging for people who need the accessibility features.
Ideally, the keybindings should be fixed, but otherwise they should be
  removed from the dialog.

This is true under up-to-date Lucid 10.04 tested on several systems.

Bug description:
Currently Unity provides about two dozen keyboard shortcuts which are
  completely hardcoded.

It is essenetial from a productivity standpoint for the user to be
able to configure any of those. It was possible with Metacity /
Compiz through the Keyboard Shortcuts window. The same interface
could be used for Unity for updating its configuration and possibly
  featuring few Unity-specific keybindings.

  Desired resolution:

  - All the unity keyboard shortcuts (defined in the following document,
https://docs.google.com/a/canonical.com/document/d/1jqeKtIJwqLtl58Wk_fqjr9Rrgxn9zsouCYOo-cZsLSE/edit?hl=en_GB
) should be present and configurable using the 'Keyboard/Shortcuts' panel in
'System Settings'
  - Any keyboard shortcuts that are not supported by Unity should be removed.

Review the following keyboard shortcut bugs before fixing this bug:
  - F10 shortcut is used to show menu and this is wrong (bug #878492)
  - Ctrl Alt Del doesn't do what most people typing it would expect (bug
#890747)
  - Unity window placement shortcuts require a numpad (bug #751050)
  - Add keyboard shortcut hint overlay that is displayed when a user presses
and holds the Super key (bug #855532)
  - The grid keybindings are behaving inconsistently (bug #878820)
  - Make Unity keyboard shortcuts configurable (bug #775434)
  - Shortcuts need to updated as part of the 12.04 upgrade (bug #891757)
  - Unity should also use Super-L to lock screen by default (bug #830709)
  - Improvements to Launcher reveal when Super is pressed behaviour (bug
#905342)

entry for most recently installed applications. We need it beacause
we always don't remember good about the difficult name of the app we
installed. An entry forthe recently installed app will be a welcome.

  --
  Desired Solution:

As soon as an application gets completely installed, the software
center should log a Zeitgeist event for that application so that it
will be moved on top of 'Recently Used' category. That category header
excludes applications that are currently in the Launcher, so recently
installed applications *should not* show up underneath this category
header by default (And this won't happen because applications are now
automatically pinned to the Launcher after install).

It's still to define whether a zeitgeist event should be fired also
when a user unpins the app from the Launcher.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1315434] Re: Mouse with no time remaining estimate showing in preference to battery being charged

2015-10-14 Thread Don McCants
Agh!

The OS update this week overwrote the workaround, and the mouse was re-
prioritized over laptop power.

Of course, my laptop ran out of power because the battery indicator said
I had plenty of charge, because it was sensing my battery, not my
laptop.

Please resolve this bug.

Mouse with no time remaining estimate showing in preference to battery
  being charged

Status in indicator-power package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
When my laptop battery is in a charging state, but is not fully
charged, I expect it to be displayed in preference to my mouse, which
  has no time remaining estimate.

  The spec here:

  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Power

  says:

"If anything is discharging, the menu title should represent the
component (not battery, but component) that is estimated to lose power
first. For example, if your notebook battery is estimated to discharge
in 1 hour 47 minutes, and your wireless mouse battery is estimated to
discharge in 27 minutes, the menu title should represent the mouse. "

but there doesn't seem to be any guideline to what happens when a
  battery is being charged.

I suggest the time remaining to charge a battery should be displayed
in preference to the power level in a wireless mouse.

Lock/Switch stay in session menu even if disabled

Status in Session Menu:

Status in indicator-session package in Ubuntu:

Status in indicator-session source package in Trusty:
  In Progress

Bug description:
  [Impact]
Session indicator no longer honours the lockdown settings that worked in
12.04 LTS. There are no alternative settings to perform the same behaviour.
This functionality is required in large installations where users are not
allowed to perfom these actions (e.g. corporate installations / labs / public
terminals).

  [Test Case]

  1. Create the file /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/lockdown.gschema.override:
  [org.gnome.desktop.lockdown]
  disable-lock-screen=true
  disable-user-switching=true
  2. Reboot
  3. Log into a session

  Expected result:
Opening the session indicator should not show any options to lock the screen
or switch the user.

  Observed result:
"Lock/Switch Account" and user list shown for installations with more than
one user. "Lock" shown for installations with one user.

  [Regression Potential]
Potential for modified options to be shown/hidden incorrectly. Risk reduced
by using existing regression tests, adding new test for lockdown and manually
testing each case.

Bug description:
In Oneiric, when logging in remotely with XDMCP + VNC and selecting
the "Ubuntu" session, Unity fails to properly fall back to Unity 2D.
Instead the user is presented with just their desktop background, with
no widgets of any kind. Sometimes a Nautilus-like menu bar briefly
appears at the top and then disappears (i.e., File, Edit, View, Go,
Bookmarks, Help). Occasionally the menu bar remains visible and/or the
user's desktop icons can be seen. In no case does the user ever get a
functional Unity 2D session with the launcher.

Manually selecting the "Ubuntu 2D" session results in a functional
  Unity 2D session as expected.

  Replacing /usr/lib/nux/unity_support_test with a symlink to /bin/false
causes the "Ubuntu" session to fall back to a functional Unity 2D
session as expected. So probably the problem occurs in
  /usr/lib/nux/unity_support_test.

I have attached the .xsession-errors from an "Ubuntu" session login
  attempt.

  Repro steps:

  1) Enable XDMCP login in /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf by adding:

  [XDMCPServer]
  enabled=true

  2) Install xinetd and vnc4server and set up a VNC port to use XDMCP
login by creating a file like this in /etc/xinetd.d:

  service Xvnc
  {
  type = UNLISTED
  disable = no
  socket_type = stream
  protocol = tcp
  wait = no
  user = root
  server = /usr/bin/Xvnc
  server_args = -inetd -query 127.0.0.1 -once -geometry 1920x1200 -depth 24
-securitytypes=none -DisconnectClients=0 -NeverShared
  port = 5901
  }

  3) Restart xinetd & lightdm services.
  4) Connect to the chosen VNC port (5901 above) with Vinagre.
  5) Login with the "Ubuntu" session selected.

  Actual Behaviour:

  6) The user is presented with a nonfunctional session.

  Expected Behaviour:

  6) /usr/lib/nux/unity_support_test should detect that the X11 display
does not support COMPOSITE and GLX and should exit with error code 1
so that Unity 2D is used.

(note the outer glow shown in this same design is not the correct
cursor select state, for the correct cursor select state see

https://chinstrap.canonical.com/~sabdfl/11_04/desktop_and_netbook/launcher/select/
  )

Bug description:
With the new overlay scrollbar in 12.04 the handle appears anywhere on
the scrollbar you move the mouse to, but this makes it very difficult
to resize the window on the right side. It is especially difficult on
a laptop. The only way I have figured it can be done is to leave the
mouse on the edge until the handle disappears but this is not very
convenient. I think the usability of the new scrollbars needs
  improvement

Note: A good application to use when reproducing this behaviour is
  Evolution calendar.

  -
  Desired resolution:

  - Clicking and dragging the overlay scrollbar at right angles to the
scroll direction should resize subpanels (in exactly the same way as
this currently works with whole windows)

  - When the pointer is positioned over either of the long sides (left
or right sides for a vertical scrollbar) of the thumb, the pointer
icon should change from the normal single arrow to a 'two way resizing
arrow' to signal to the user that they can resize by dragging. This
'two way resizing arrow' should also appear when the pointer 2px away
from the thumb on either side so there is in total a 3px draggable
area (similar to the invisible dragable border around windows).

marking this as invalid because it affects an Ubuntu release which is
now unsupported. If you can still recreate this bug in a supported
release, please do open a new bug and we can triage it for consideration
in the 16.04 LTS development cycle.

Title:
HUD - HUD offers search results from app indicators more often than
  from currently focused application

Status in Ayatana Design:
  Fix Committed
Status in Application Menu Indicator:
  Triaged
Status in indicator-appmenu package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
When using the HUD, search results are always reduced to menu items in
the keyboard or network application indicators, irrespective of what
  application has the focus.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Start a application (e.g. Character map)
  2. Press ALT to open the HUD: the HUD search box opens with the 'Character
Map' icon next to it
  3. Type "sh"

  Expected behaviour
The HUD should favour menu options from the application that currently has
the focus and only show app indicator menu options as secondary items. In the
example above, the Character Map functions should be shown at the top of the
list because this application has focus.

There needs to be more weighting in favour of focused application (as opposed
to the indicators)

  --
  Note from design:

This is an important bug, the display of indicator and desktop options
needs to be retarded. The indicator options currently have too high
  of a prominence.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1501244] Re: indicator-session sporadically segfaults if used with winbind

2015-10-14 Thread Chris J Arges
Hello Jonathan, or anyone else affected,

Accepted indicator-session into trusty-proposed. The package will build
now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-
session/12.10.5+14.04.20151008-0ubuntu1 in a few hours, and then in the
-proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

Bug description:
when looking into our pc pool with 44 machines, in around 2-5 sessions
the System Menu is missing after a crash of indicator-session-service,
making the users unable to log out using the mouse.

There are arround 100 ubuntu machines for students with 32000 real
users from an active directory. The users cannot see any users real
  name.

I wasn't able to find the right debug symbols, but in the disassembly it
looks like a crash in service.c:321 .
In the attached crash dump the instruction pointer points to 0x4120a0 in
memory, which should be the get_current_realname function.

  static const char *
  get_current_real_name (IndicatorSessionService * self)
  {
GHashTableIter iter;
gpointer key, value;

/* is it the guest? */
if (indicator_session_guest_is_active (self->priv->backend_guest))

ptr [r13]), r13=user ist NULL
  return get_user_label (user);
  }

return "";
  }

The strange thing is: before inserting into the hashmap, every user is
checked to be != NULL. So maybe I guessed the wrong function, or there are
threading issues.

Title:
Does not work in non-Unity DEs/Xsessions

Status in indicator-session package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Clicking any of the actions that require a prompt - shutdown, restart, etc. -
in a non-Unity X session do not work. This seems to be caused by prompt
selection code in
https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~indicator-applet-developers/indicator-session/trunk.14.04/view/head:/src/backend-dbus/actions.c#L94
 - it always assumes that Unity prompt is available even if it, in fact, is
not.
Checking for availability of Zenity prompt first is reported to fix this.

For a proper solution the code responsible for detecting Unity prompt
availability should be improved. Right now it seems to be simply checking if it
can access D-bus. I assume the prompt is invoked via a D-bus call so I've
investigated checking for name presence on the bus, but that can potentially be
slow since it has a manually-set timeout.
Checking the XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP variable and only showing the Unity prompt
if it's set to "Unity" sounds like a better idea to me, but I'm not sure if the
variable is set on Ubuntu Touch at all.

Status in indicator-session package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Unlike other menuitems we can not suppress `suspend' menuitem in
indicator-session with an easy to maintain dconf key.

This appears to be important because we can no longer use policykit to
disable suspend. After disabling suspend via initd (bug #1300460)
there still is a `suspend' menuitem. This may be confusing.

In addition, the close proximity of `suspend', `log-out', and
`shutdown' items may lead to an unwanted suspend in systems where this
does not work as expected, or where a user should not suspend.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1315434] Re: Mouse with no time remaining estimate showing in preference to battery being charged

2015-10-14 Thread Don McCants
quote with correction:
it was sensing my "mouse" battery, not my "laptop's battery."
