Bug description:
I'm assuming the issue is related to Compiz, but I'm not 100% sure.
When I'm switching workspaces, it occasionally locks up (becoming more
frequent). Most of the time, I'm going from the current one down
(Ctrl+Alt+Down Arrow), and it freezes mid slide. Typically, I'm able
to correct things by backing out to a terminal then returning
(Ctrl+Alt+F1, pause, Alt+F7), but sometimes when I return the dual
screen setup acts as one large screen (windows are stretched to the
full width of both screens) and many of the windows collect on the
  first workspace.

  Ubuntu 11.04 (Classic)
  All packages up-to-date.

If there are any logs/etc that would be helpful, let me know.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1523698] Re: indicator-session is leaking memory on ubuntu 15.10

2015-12-16 Thread Jelle De Loecker
About the configuration:
The system runs on an SSD, with only a root and home partition.

The only special thing is that there is no swap partition, but a swap
*file* on the root disk.

It's running on a relative simple nvidia card, with 2 or 3 monitors.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1523698] Re: indicator-session is leaking memory on ubuntu 15.10

2015-12-16 Thread Jelle De Loecker
I haven't encountered it again until today. It doesn't happen all the time, but
it doesn't just go away with a reboot either.
I've written a crontab that kills the process every 10 minutes, that's the best
workaround for now.
Haven't had time to try valgrind.

However, something strange is going on and it's not limited to
indicator-session, as you can see in the attached htop screenshot.
It's also unity-settings-daemon and the accounts-daemon. So I don't really know
*what* to try now.

The bug title says "memory leak", that still is the case, though the
htop screenshot also shows high cpu usage is a problem.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1527015] [NEW] Dont run zeitgeist on GNOME

2015-12-16 Thread Tim
Public bug reported:

Zeitgeist is not really useful under Ubuntu GNOME, and in fact we don't
ship the binaries by default, since we use tracker. However if a user
has both Unity and GNOME installed, then zeitgeist will run under the
GNOME session also. Presumably this is pretty harmless but will eat up
RAM and I/O cycles so would be good to avoid it.

Hopefully just requires an AutostartCondition in desktop file(s) to fix.

Also, reminders are not muted when the phone is in silent mode (I

  UX Comment:

Calendar Notifications need to be overhauled:
-- Calendar Notifications are displayed for too brief a period and should
conform to the same timing as other notifications.

-- Calendar Notifications are not currently appearing in the
notification tray within indicators and should be.

-- Calendar Notification title is misleading ('Alarm') and should make
clear that the notification relates to a calendar event ('Event') and
  not a alarm-clock event.

-- Calendar Notification's should NOT override silent mode (unlike
clock-alarms) although the notification should still be displayed,
appear in the notification within indicators and cause the device to
vibrate (if enabled) - This is accepted/common behaviour for
notifications of this type on mobile.
