[Dx-packages] [Bug 1533911] [NEW] Decrease CPU usage of datetime by events

2016-01-13 Thread Bartosz Kosiorek
Public bug reported:

Currently in ./src/wakeup-timer-mainloop.cpp
the g_timeout_add_full function is used to call intervals:

const auto now = m_clock->localtime();
const auto difference_usec =
g_date_time_difference(m_wakeup_time.get(), now.get());
const guint interval_msec = std::abs(difference_usec) / 1000u;
g_debug("%s setting wakeup timer to kick at %s, which is in %zu
seconds",
G_STRFUNC,
m_wakeup_time.format("%F %T").c_str(),
size_t{interval_msec/1000});

m_timeout_tag = g_timeout_add_full(G_PRIORITY_HIGH,
   interval_msec,
   on_timeout,
   this,
   nullptr);
More information:

https://developer.gnome.org/glib/stable/glib-The-Main-Event-Loop.html#g-timeout-add-full

The grouping of timers to fire at the same time results in a more power and CPU
efficient behavior
That's why I would recommend to use:
   g_timeout_add_seconds_full ()
instead

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1480200] Re: indicator-datetime starting ringing almost immedietly if timer is set for less than 60 seconds

2016-01-13 Thread Bartosz Kosiorek
Investigation could be started from:

./src/wakeup-timer-mainloop.cpp:void set_wakeup_time(const DateTime& d)
and also:
./src/alarm-queue-simple.cpp:
m_triggered.insert(std::make_pair(appointment.uid, alarm->time));

  indicator-datetime doesn't check seconds for alarms.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Install Timer: https://uappexplorer.com/app/timer.mivoligo
  2. Set timer to 15 seconds
  3. Start timer

  Currently:
  4. Alarm is ringing almost immediately (it is not always reproducible)

  imported google calendar events sound when they shouldn't

Status in Canonical System Image:
  New
Status in Ubuntu Calendar App:
  New
Status in indicator-datetime package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  I use the calendar-app with my work google calendar. For that calendar
  I have alarms setup to automatically send an email 24 hours, 4 hours
  and 30 minutes before any event and I choose email as the reminder (as
  opposed to popup) so that I wouldn't be bombarded with reminders all
  day. Unfortunately the calendar app does not make a distinction
  between email and popup and every event with an email reminder gets
  imported as an event that gets an event notification on the phone with
  an alarm sound. I have a lot of events in my calendar and so my phone
  is constantly making noise at all times of the day. This is
  particularly annoying at night time since I might get a reminder as
  early as 3am or 4am, which wakes me up. Of course, I could use silent
  mode at night, but, like last night, I forgot and was awoken at 6am.
  Plus, I don't necessarily want the phone in silent mode-- I'd like to
  be able to hear if a phone call comes in since that is likely an
  emergency call I need to take.

  There are a lot of different bugs related to calendar event
  notifications and if some of them were fixed, it would ameliorate this
  bug. For example, I've been hoping for a setting to disable sounds for
  just the calendar (whether via the app or system settings) but
  otherwise get calendar notifications. Being able to change the alarm
  sound to 'None' would work too. TBH at this point I don't care which
  bug is fixed, I need to get this phone to stop sounding off
  constantly.

  WORKAROUND:
  1. download https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Silence.ogg to
/home/phablet
  2. use gsettings to adjust the sound:
  $ DISPLAY=:0.0 gsettings get com.canonical.indicator.datetime
calendar-default-sound
  '/usr/share/sounds/ubuntu/ringtones/Marimbach.ogg'
  $ DISPLAY=:0.0 gsettings set com.canonical.indicator.datetime
calendar-default-sound /home/phablet/Silence.ogg
  $ DISPLAY=:0.0 gsettings get com.canonical.indicator.datetime
calendar-default-sound

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1533681] Re: imported google calendar events sound when they shouldn't

2016-01-13 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Here is an ical that should contain the event that sounded this morning.
Ie, there is a calendar event for 10am local (US/Chicago) on 2016-01-13
that sounded the calendar alarm at 6am local (US/Chicago). This is a
recurring event and I included all events with the 'SUMMARY:1 on 1
Chris/Jamie'. I have redacted the 'UID:' fields-- there were only two
different ones (I guess depending on who created the event??) but I
redacted the info with a string of the same length as what was
previously there and kept the two UIDs unique.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1261191] Re: indicator-datetime list evolution calendar all day event a day before actual date of event

2016-01-13 Thread Charles Kerr
Ok, this looks like real progress to me. This means we should be able to
create ical input along the lines of seb128's snippet in comment #8 and
keep feeding it into indicator-datetime's regression tests until we see
where the problem is.

First guess is that indicator-datetime's code is somehow injecting an
incorrect endpoint, but we'll see.

Bug description:
  1. What is expected

  I add new all day events to evolution calendar (caldav sync with
  owncloud and also local calendar). Evolution shows events just OK and
  indicator-datetime calendar shows correct day as bold as well and
  should also list events below as defined.

  2. What actually happens

  Indicator-datetime lists events to take place one day ahead e.g. all day
event on Monday is listed to be happen on Sunday.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1440111] Re: [calendar] Reminder notifications are not integrated into system notifications

2016-01-13 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Erf, mispaste of IRC conversation:

07:57 < jdstrand> more constructively, I think being able to choose if event
notifications should sound or not and having event notifications show up in the
notifications area would be great (if the event sounds are on, perhaps only
show missed events there, otherwise show each notification plus missed)
07:59 < davmor2> jdstrand: I think the solution is in the indicator have silent
mode, night mode and holiday mode. and then have the settings for those be
adjustable in sounds in the settings app to suit the indiviuals
08:01 < jdstrand> davmor2: you are talking about the notifications indicator?
yes, that would be nice because making it silent wouldn't prevent incoming call
sounds.

Status in indicator-datetime package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  The calendar app does not use the standard notification system. You
  can't find it in the "Notifications" area of System Settings, and it
  uses its own notification sound regardless of what is set in "Sound".

  Also, reminders are not muted when the phone is in silent mode (I
  guess it's related).

  I'm on bq Aquaris, r20 and with the latest calendar-app.

  UX Comment:

  Calendar Notifications need to be overhauled:
  -- Calendar Notifications are displayed for too brief a period and should
conform to the same timing as other notifications.

  -- Calendar Notifications are not currently appearing in the
  notification tray within indicators and should be.

  -- Calendar Notification title is misleading ('Alarm') and should make
  clear that the notification relates to a calendar event ('Event') and
  not a alarm-clock event.

  -- Calendar Notification's should NOT override silent mode (unlike
  clock-alarms) although the notification should still be displayed,
  appear in the notification within indicators and cause the device to
  vibrate (if enabled) - This is accepted/common behaviour for
  notifications of this type on mobile.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1533681] Re: imported google calendar events sound when they shouldn't

2016-01-13 Thread Charles Kerr
This sounds like it might be an indicator-datetime bug rather than a
calendar-app bug.

Jamie, could you please attach a sample entry from the ical file that's
causing unwanted event sounds? You will find the file(s) in
~/.local/share/evolution/calendar/*/calendar.ics where * generally
includes "system" and may include other directories as well.

Title:
  imported google calendar events sound when they shouldn't

Status in Ubuntu Calendar App:
  New
Status in indicator-datetime package in Ubuntu:

  $ DISPLAY=:0.0 gsettings get com.canonical.indicator.datetime
calendar-default-sound
  '/usr/share/sounds/ubuntu/ringtones/Marimbach.ogg'
  $ DISPLAY=:0.0 gsettings set com.canonical.indicator.datetime
calendar-default-sound /home/phablet/Silence.ogg
  $ DISPLAY=:0.0 gsettings get com.canonical.indicator.datetime
calendar-default-sound
  '/home/phablet/Silence.ogg'

2016-01-13 Thread Jamie Strandboge
I'm plagued with calendar event sounds due to bug #1533681. Obviously,
that bug should be fixed on its own, however it got me thinking about
event notifications. A couple of ideas from IRC to throw into the mix:

07:57 < jdstrand> more constructively, I think being able to choose if event
notifications should sound or not and having event notifications show up in the
notifications area would be great (if the event sounds are on, perhaps only

yes, that would be nice because making it silent wouldn't prevent incoming call

If changing notifications indicator sounds, I wonder if would/should
quiet incoming texts...

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1261191] Re: indicator-datetime list evolution calendar all day event a day before actual date of event

2016-01-13 Thread Sebastien Bacher
@Charles

I don't know if that "idiom is commonplace" but at least the patch pilot
calendar [1] as such events and the google UI/evolution/gnome-calendar
correctly list them as day event

I've exported the ICS and events have that format

"BEGIN:VEVENT
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20160118
DTSTAMP:20160112T165350Z
...
CREATED:20151211T075059Z
DESCRIPTION:Pilot
SUMMARY:Pilot
...
END:VEVENT"

AS you can see there is only a DTSTART,
http://www.kanzaki.com/docs/ical/vevent.html states

"For cases where a "VEVENT" calendar component specifies a "DTSTART"
property with a DATE data type but no "DTEND" property, the events non-
inclusive end is the end of the calendar date specified by the "DTSTART"
property"

So to reply to your questions

a) The missing DTEND is a valid case and the code doesn't handle it well
b) other systems honor it
