[Dx-packages] [Bug 1199877] Re: unity-panel-service memory leak and 100% CPU usage

2016-07-12 Thread Nazar Mokrynskyi
Looks like this might also be the reason why unity-panel-service consumes few
gibibytes of memory on my machine with owncloud.

Bug description:
Impact: high CPU/memory usage from unity-panel-service

  Test case:

Open a large image in the GIMP and activate a lot of items from the
global menu. Using shortcuts is enough and faster to reproduce this
bug (I've always used Ctrl+A and Ctrl+Shift+A). Memory usage of unity-
panel-service increases steadily and it uses a lot of CPU shortly
after activating the menu items in a short time.

Regression potential: check that the menus are stable/working as they
  should

  -
Just going about my business on Ubuntu Raring amd64 on an x230 and I heard
the fan kick into action. top showed me that unity-panel-service was consuming
all the free cycles on one of my CPUs. I killed it before my machine
overheated, so I didn't attach a debugger to see why it was totally pegging out
a CPU.

I'm not sure if this adds any context, but I was using a LibreOffice
spreadsheet and I could not insert a table because the menu had lost
it's mind, and then I observed the overly loaded CPU a very short
  while after that.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1598770] Re: Unity in low-graphics mode has animations and unneeded redraws

2016-07-12 Thread Treviño
Ensure that unity-control-center is updated in your machine too. There's
a SRU for that too.

Also, the lowgfx setting in CCSM isn't enough for doing a full testing.

You can also force it by running

COMPIZ_CONFIG_PROFILE=ubuntu-lowgfx compiz --replace

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1354164] Re: No way to show power indicator for wireless mice/keyboards on desktop machines without battery

** Changed in: indicator-power (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed => Fix Released

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX

Title:
No way to show power indicator for wireless mice/keyboards on desktop
  machines without battery

Status in indicator-power package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
I have a desktop computer running Ubuntu 14.04. Today I discovered
that the battery status for my wireless mouse and keyboard are shown
in the Power section of System Settings, which was very pleasing.
However, there is no way to show the battery status in the menu bar on
this machine. The options available for this in System Settings are:

Show battery status in the menu bar when battery is present
Show battery status in the menu bar when battery is charging/in use
Show battery status in the menu bar never

Either the batteries in my wireless keyboard and wireless mouse count
as a "battery" for the purposes of this menu, or they don't, and I
don't know which is true, but either way there is a bug.

If the "Show battery status in the menu bar" dropdown menu applies to
only a main computer battery (such as is found in a laptop) then there
is no way to show the battery status of my wireless keyboard and mouse
if my computer does not *have* a main computer battery (because it is
a desktop computer plugged into mains power always). Suggested fix:
add a new option, "when device(s) using a battery are connected",
which would act as "Show battery status in the menu bar when battery
is present" but also show the status in the menu bar if battery-using
  peripherals are connected.

If the "Show battery status in the menu bar" dropdown menu applies to
all batteries, including those in peripherals such as mice, then the
setting is incorrectly being ignored because I do not have a power
  indicator.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1598770] Re: Unity in low-graphics mode has animations and unneeded redraws

2016-07-12 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
I tested it on my default install by enabling lowgfx through CCSM.

It did switch off all transparency effects. Also there are no preview
animations in Dash but I still have fade in and fade out animation for
showing windows (Super+W).

In my testing using virtual machine that animation was disabled so I
guess it works as intended. Also in virtual machine I can't enable
workspaces.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1440825] Re: dnd_is_screensaver_inhibited no longer works

2016-07-12 Thread Shane Synan
Echoing @nobuto's remarks, this is a rather unpleasant surprise moving
from Ubuntu 14.04 to Ubuntu 16.04. I use Caffeine to keep the system
awake during important background tasks and when I can see the screen
while not actually at the keyboard. Unfortunately, now notifications
don't work in such cases.

As this is technically working according to design, should I file a bug
report with the Ayatana project, NotifyOSD, is one expected to change
org.gnome.desktop.session.idle-timeout in a script, or..?

Pardon the noise if I should have contacted elsewhere first.
