For reference, the new smart scope service and corresponding Unity changes was discussed here: http://fridge.ubuntu.com/2013/01/30/smart- scopes/ The spec for the smart scope service is here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SmartScopes1304Spec The goal is to have everything ready by April 1st. Until then, a ppa will be updated everyday for testing the feature by a group of 5 people (the ppa will be: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-unity/+archive /experimental-certified). [Dx-packages] [Bug 1154451] Re: Windows Startkey only works when an application is open?
This is most likley caused by a bad nautilus not running the Desktop window. This window needs to be open other wise compiz wont get any keyboarde events since no windows are present/focused. Make sure nautilus is running, and when you are on an empty desktop that the top panel reads Ubuntu Desktop and the top panel has drop shadow. If you dont have this then nautilus is not running in desktop mode. ** Changed in: unity Status: New = Invalid ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1152467] Re: Icons Missing In Dash
All unity does is reads the *.desktop file. If the app is not starting then its the *.desktop file that comes with that app. I would check out /usr/share/applications/ and look for those desktop files and ensure the Exec section is correct. Theres nothing we can do about bad desktop files in unity. ** Changed in: unity Status: New = Invalid ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1349858] Re: Cannot override certain key combinations involving Super
This is somewhat problematic. As compiz gets the events, checks if it uses that shortcut. If it does then it eats the event and its done. If it doesn't eat the event it gets sent to gnome control center (now unity control center i think?). Which then gets to the right shortcut. So the only way to get this to work correctly, is to go in ccsm (compizconfig setting manager) and change the shortcut in unity plugin to not open photos scope when you press Super+C. ** Changed in: unity Status: New = Confirmed ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1308800] Re: Unity doesn't respawn all the times on crashes
** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Critical -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Matching subscriptions: dx-packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1308800 Title: Unity doesn't respawn all the times on crashes Status in Unity: In Progress Status in “gnome-session” package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: In Progress Bug description: [Impact] Killing compiz repeatedly doesn't make unity to reload all the times. This is caused by the fact that due to a regression unity7 is not loaded anymore by upstart (but by gnome-session) and thus it seems that sometimes it doesn't properly gets restarted. This is also a security issue, because if the session was locked, and unity is not reloaded the session won't be locked anymore. [Test Case] From a terminal run killall -9 compiz multiple times, it should always reload, but it fails after a couple of times. [Regression Potential] The fix is about always making unity to be launched by upstart. Regression potential is low, since upstart is now used by most ubuntu desktop applications, and it ensures compiz will run properly anyway. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1163041] Re: Inconsistent behaviour with minimized Trash windows
*Note* this only happens when Nautilus is locked to the launcher! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Matching subscriptions: dx-packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1163041 Title: Inconsistent behaviour with minimized Trash windows Status in Ayatana Design: Confirmed Status in One Hundred Papercuts: Triaged Status in Unity: Confirmed Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Now with a fix for LP: #753938 being merged into raring, this presents a new usability challenge to users. The issue: When you open a trash window from the launcher and minimize it, it gets minimized into the Nautilus icon. However, a user would then expect to get the window back by clicking the icon where the window minimized into in the first place, in this case, the Nautilus icon in the launcher. Instead, it opens a new Nautilus window. The issue here is that trash windows and every other Nautilus window are only seperated logically from each other, but not visually. The fix: When minimizing the trash window, instead of minimizing into the Nautilus icon, it should minimize the window into the trash icon in the launcher. I'm purely talking about the minimize animation and triangle next to the trash icon here. ** Changed in: unity Status: In Progress = Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Matching subscriptions: dx-packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1283619 Title: No first run tutorial for Unity/Ubuntu Status in Ayatana Design: Fix Committed Status in Unity: Fix Released Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: What should be done by design (approved by JohnLea): The first time an user access to his session, the Shortcut Hint should be prompted to the user, and it should fade out at the first user interaction (mouse button or key press). - Summary: When a user first logs in to an Ubuntu install, they are just dropped on the desktop with no prompts on how to use the system. A new user, say someone's grandmother, could have _no clue_ what to do. Proposed solution: === Given that Ubuntu / Canonical is focusing on expanding their userbase, I propose that a tutorial is shown every time a new user logs into Unity for the first time (EDIT: perhaps some sort of slideshow with an animation on each page -- see first comment with attachement). This tutorial will point out the BFB, the launcher, notification area, settings manager, and where to go to log out. On top of this, it should be audiovisual to make it as accessible as possible. If the user doesn't want to go through it, it should be a simple click to close the tutorial. This will set Ubuntu above the standard of other operating systems by ensuring that not only is Unity usable and intuitive, but that it is helpful in giving users a basic understanding of how to use it. Not everyone's brain works the same, and Ubuntu is about making computing accessible to everyone. I've heard too often I didn't want to do anything in case it messed something up, and it's scary doing something new on the computer. A tutorial will give users the confidence to use their computer without fear of breaking something. Matching subscriptions: dx-packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1283619 Title: No first run tutorial for Unity/Ubuntu Status in Ayatana Design: Fix Committed Status in Unity: In Progress Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: In Progress Bug description: What should be done by design (approved by JohnLea): The first time an user access to his session, the Shortcut Hint should be prompted to the user, and it should fade out at the first user interaction (mouse button or key press).
