Bug description:
I'm assuming the issue is related to Compiz, but I'm not 100% sure.
When I'm switching workspaces, it occasionally locks up (becoming more
frequent). Most of the time, I'm going from the current one down
(Ctrl+Alt+Down Arrow), and it freezes mid slide. Typically, I'm able
to correct things by backing out to a terminal then returning
(Ctrl+Alt+F1, pause, Alt+F7), but sometimes when I return the dual
screen setup acts as one large screen (windows are stretched to the
full width of both screens) and many of the windows collect on the
  first workspace.

  Ubuntu 11.04 (Classic)
  All packages up-to-date.

If there are any logs/etc that would be helpful, let me know.

  Unity-Desktop - Selection Graphical Issue

Status in unity package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
When I Show the Desktop (no other Windows should be open), I can click
somewhere and move the pointer still holing the left button down. This
creates a rect to slect multiple items on the Desktop.

The Issue always happen when I do the followng:
  1) Draw the Rect (you must select one item on the desktop at least)
  2) Click the Context-Menu-Button on a Keyboard, still holding the left key.
  3) Optional: Resize the Rect.
  4) Release the left mouse-button and click.

Now the Rect is drawn permanantly. Moreover, I can draw more selction-rects
using this way.
An other issue is that I can not move Items on the Desktop.

Opening and Closing other Windows does not cahnge anything. The same
problem is also on every Desktop.

In the Attachment i included a Video of the issue.

and the #188 results too. It's different tests each time, but a bit
above 10 of them tend to fail on each full run.

Reproducable locally, where I got 11 such failures.

  To reproduce:
  [terminal 1]
  1. flash/update device if needed
  2. adb shell
  3. apt install ubuntu-ui-toolkit-autopilot
  4. powerd-cli display on bright # leave running, also unlock the screen so
that lenses are shown
  [terminal 2]
  5. phablet-config autopilot --dbus-probe enable # wait until finishes
  6. phablet-test-run ubuntuuitoolkit

A full test suite run will take around 0.5h and should produce a bunch
  of 'Application failed to start.':s.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1298656] Re: hud-service crashed with g-assert-if-reached in GMenu call from qtgmenu::QtGMenuModel::CreateChild()

2014-06-11 Thread Colin Watson
Hello Jos, or anyone else affected,

Accepted hud into trusty-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hud/14.04+14.04.20140604-0ubuntu1 in
a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

  [Impact]

   * Unknown GTK application causes HUD service to crash by sending
  invalid menu updates via GMenu.

  [Test Case]

   * Not reproducable so far.

  [Regression Potential]

   * Worst case is that somehow HUD doesn't work on the desktop and
  phone.

   * There are, obviously, extensive unit and functional tests to verify
  this doesn't happen.

  [Other Info]

   * The patch will report the offending application to
errors.ubuntu.com with all available debugging information.

   * The indexes are now range checked before processing. As soon as a
window sends any invalid message it is blocked.

   * Further hardening around the memory management in QtGMenu has been
  carried out.

  * The change is not as large as it at first appears. The majority of
the diff is simply replacing Type* with QSharedPointerType. The rest
is the extra code for reporting the recoverable problem.

While copying a large (8 gig) file across an SMB network, I minimized
it. The right click on the Nautilus Unity bar showed a Show copy
dialog item. Clicking on that item did nothing. The only way to get
the dialog back up was to open one of the two minimized Nautilus
windows and then minimize the one on top. After that minimize, then
the copy dialog was displayed on top of the other Nautilus window. I
couldn't find any way to get the copy dialog back on screen without

  [Impact]

   * The patch provide a fix to provide the x-canonical-private-
synchronous to work with notifications different with
  LAYOUT_ICON_INDICATOR layout. Currently the x-canonical-private-
synchronous interface only provide this layout to support brightness
  and volume control.

  [Test Case]

   * This patch make following command behave correctly.

  #notify-send -h string:x-canonical-private-synchronous:1 wireless
  disable -i notification-network-wireless-none ; sleep 1 ; notify-
  send -h string:x-canonical-private-synchronous:1 bluetooth enable
  -i bluetooth

In current implementation, both Summary and Body text didn't get
  updated.

  [Regression Potential]

   * The risk should be minimal, the patch should only affect x
-canonical-private-synchronous interface. This interface is only used
in brightness and volume hotkey, and layout is different.

   * The patch is already tested in OEM projects.

  [Other Info]

  *** Original bug description:

When you send a notification in Synchronous with another, the both
Summary and Body text doesn't get updated.

  As an example:

  while true; do
  notify-send first title first subtitle -i dialog-info -h
string:x-canonical-private-synchronous:test
  sleep 1
  notify-send second title second subtitle -i dialog-error -h
string:x-canonical-private-synchronous:test
  sleep 1
  done

If you run the above, what you should see is the Icon changing, but the
summary/body text staying the same.
Is this expected behaviour from the libnotify library? Or is this an
overlooked feature?

  Iain

This bug was the #2 cause of crashes in the Steam client. I believe this
meets the SRU criteria: Bugs which do not fit under above categories, but (1)
have an obviously safe patch and (2) affect an application rather than critical
infrastructure packages (like X.org or the kernel).

  [Test Case]
As this is a race condition it is difficult to reproduce. However we have
many crashdumps with a SIGSEGV referencing a garbage self-priv pointer in
bus_creation(). After applying this fix, the crashes stopped.
