Re: [Dx-packages] [Bug 1317860] Re: the phone should switch itself off before completely draining battery

2016-02-15 Thread David Barth
As a FYI : some of those devices may have an IC that allows for NOBATOP
operation. For example, the TI BQ24160 was popular in Android handsets and
has support for such a mode.

Bug description:
the phone should switch itself off at around ~5% remaining battery.

This is to preserve a little battery for use cases such as:

  * turn it back on once or twice for urgent short phone calls
  * prevent the battery from going into a state where it can't be charged any
more
  * have enough power to turn itself on again and trigger an alarm

  : "The device should hibernate
(PC) or power off (phone/tablet) if both of these things are true: *
there is less than 2% battery remaining * there has been more than 3%
battery remaining at some point since the last time the device
  hibernated or powered off."

Also, reminders are not muted when the phone is in silent mode (I

  UX Comment:

Calendar Notifications need to be overhauled:
-- Calendar Notifications are displayed for too brief a period and should
conform to the same timing as other notifications.

-- Calendar Notifications are not currently appearing in the
notification tray within indicators and should be.

-- Calendar Notification title is misleading ('Alarm') and should make
clear that the notification relates to a calendar event ('Event') and
  not a alarm-clock event.

-- Calendar Notification's should NOT override silent mode (unlike
clock-alarms) although the notification should still be displayed,
appear in the notification within indicators and cause the device to
vibrate (if enabled) - This is accepted/common behaviour for
notifications of this type on mobile.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1292174] Re: [trusty] webapp launches, container remains blank

2014-05-09 Thread David Barth
Thanks for confirming that the bug is fixed.

And yes, please create separate bugs for the issues you are describing.
Note however that touch support on the desktop is not enabled fo the new
container. It is limited to the mobile platform right now. This is a
known limitation, but worth reporting nonetheless.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1295762] Re: snap decision timeout needs to be determined by the requesting app

2014-05-09 Thread David Barth
If thee is a decision to be made, then the timeout should probably be
infinite, unless the app wants it to time out explicitly.

Otherwise, the use of the notification API feels a bit strange to me.
Snap decisions feel like something different, which should have a snap
decision API, where an application can express what the /decision/ is
about.

  Problem:
If user receives an SMS/call, snap decision for incoming SMS/call stays on
screen for always only 60sec. and then disappears from screen (by default).
There was no interaction from user.

  Possible solution:
The snap decision should stay on screen for the amount of time the app asks
it to, being always app dependant.
A 60sec. time-out is too short due to use cases where an action from user is
mandatory.

Use case example: A class 1/2 SMS arrives after user triggered a USSD
command from dialer. These type of SMS always requires a response from
user (CANCEL or a further COMMAND). Thus a timeout of only 60 sec is
too short because it can be missed and these type of SMS is NOT saved
  into the usual messages thread.

It may be that my user session is screwed up and that this bug is

  I'm using firefox 28.0, and when I visit a webapp-supported website
and I'm asked for integration and I accept it, nothing happens. For
instance, when I visit gmail.com, no icon is added to the launcher.
There is a gmail application in the dash, but I believe it's from an
older version: in fact, when I start it, the command line being used
  is:

webapp-container --app-id=Gmailmailgooglecom --webapp --enable-back-
  forward https://mail.google.com

whis seems wrong (the --webapp argument is missing the webapp name).
I tried removing all webapps from ~/.local/share/applications/, and I also
removed the ~/.local/share/unity-webapps* directories, but this didn't help.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1290535] Re: [FFE] Webapps support for the new Oxide container

2014-03-14 Thread David Barth
** Description changed:

This is a feature freeze exception request to integrate the following
feature in the upcoming Ubuntu 14.04 release.

The overall web application support in Ubuntu currently relies on
various components and a web container(s) in particular. So far we have
been using Firefox and Chromium, by way of browser extensions, to
detect, host and integrate web applications in Ubuntu.

On mobile devices however, we have already switched to using our own webapp
container, based on webbrowser-app.
- The integration itself has been present as an option since 13.10. However we
have been using the QtWebkit engine so far.
+ The integration itself has been present as an option since 13.10. However we
have been using the QtWebkit engine so far.

This request is to also enable and use our webapp-container by defaullt,
with the Oxide engine, on the desktop edition.

The change impacts a set of packages linked to this bug report.
+
+ NOTE: This request is not complete and serves to let the release team
+ know of the impact and scope of changes, while the individual MPs with
+ fixes are being consolidated. It will be updated at the beginning of
+ next week when the landing silo is ready for a potential landing.

This is a feature freeze exception request to integrate the following
feature in the upcoming Ubuntu 14.04 release.

The overall web application support in Ubuntu currently relies on
various components and a web container(s) in particular. So far we
have been using Firefox and Chromium, by way of browser extensions, to
detect, host and integrate web applications in Ubuntu.

On mobile devices however, we have already switched to using our own webapp
container, based on webbrowser-app.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1280337] Re: Dependency on webbrowser-app seems ill-advised

2014-02-14 Thread David Barth
Robert: can that dependency be turned into a recommend? The underlying
code should be able to fallback to another webcontainer (like chrome) if
available.

** Changed in: libunity-webapps (Ubuntu)
Assignee: (unassigned) = Robert Bruce Park (robru)

Bug description:
So if a user decides to uninstall webbrowser-app then they will basically
destroy their install. If done thru software-center there is no real indication
of what is about to happen. (Bug 1278869 )
If done thru the Dash not sure as currently uninstall of apps in Dash
doesn't work, though I'd expect it would be similarly uninformative just as
destructive.

This seems to correspond to different entries, one of them being a
Google News entry created while you were logged to the aysiakini.com
