qpdfview renders black pages after poppler update

Status in “systemd-shim” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
qpdfview was working fine in 13.10, then I did an apt-get dist-upgrade
qpdfview only renders black pages now. Suspect poppler library upgrade is
the cause.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1293548] Re: Indicator disappears when switching to non default layout

2014-04-04 Thread Edwin Pujols
@joecarey, That gray/difficult to read icon is with the non-default icon
theme (Numix in my case). I checked and ubuntu-mono doesn't have this
problem (both icons use white background). Consider advising the Numix
Project about this.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1302123] [NEW] Won't respawn when restarting unity-panel-service

Title:
Missing gettext context or pasting translatable strings

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
While translating to Spanish some text from the Keyboard Shortcuts
Overlay, I noticed pieces of text which I considered badly structured
  for translation.

I am not sure but I think it is caused by using string concatenation
of translatable strings or missing gettext context or something else.
For example, the text for "Alt+Left Mouse Drag" is separated into
  ``Alt'', `` + '', ``Left Mouse'', and `` Drag'' (there is a space
before Drag). I assume this is the way it is separated because in the
translation entries there is one for "Left Mouse" and one for " Drag".
Obviously that would not be a problem if "Left Mouse" + " Drag" ==
"Left Mouse Drag" in Spanish, but this is not the case. (I think this
isn't the case for English either!)

  Other examples are

    "Super (Hold)" -> "Super" . " (Hold)"
    "Cursor Left or Right -> "Cursor Left" . " or " . " Right"
    "Alt + Middle Mouse Drag" -> "Alt" . " + " . "Middle Mouse" . " Drag"

  *What is expected*
That translatable strings should not be pasted together via coding which
bypasses gettext or the maintainers shouldn't spare on adding context pointers
on the translatable strings, in order for the translation context to preserved
and enough for a decent translation.

  *What happens*
In the translations page for Unity (7.0) there are pieces of text with
ambiguous context or which cannot be translated correctly.

Title:
Indicator disappears entirely when disabling / turning off bluetooth

Status in “indicator-bluetooth” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
Bug 1116289 made the BT indicator disappear when there is no hardware.
However, with that version I now also have it disappear when my
existing BT hardware is merely disabled. I. e. I disable BT from the
indicator, then it disappears, leaving me no obvious method to turn it
back on again. I can re-enabble it in control-center, and then the
  indicator comes back.

I think when it sees no actual BT hardware it ought to check rfkill
whether there is disabled BT hardware:

  $ grep -r . /sys/class/rfkill/rfkill0/{type,state,soft,persistent}
  /sys/class/rfkill/rfkill0/type:bluetooth
  /sys/class/rfkill/rfkill0/state:1
  /sys/class/rfkill/rfkill0/soft:0
  /sys/class/rfkill/rfkill0/persistent:1

After disabling BT from the indicator, "soft" changes to 1:

  $ grep -r . /sys/class/rfkill/rfkill0/{type,state,soft,persistent}
  /sys/class/rfkill/rfkill0/type:bluetooth
  /sys/class/rfkill/rfkill0/state:0

Regression: Rev 3696: Qt4 apps & some others that are started or
controlled from unity launcher quicklists cause extended cursor run on

Status in Compiz:
  Confirmed
Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
Minor issue but annoying, present in raring & saucy

  Test cases:
  Install smplayer from software-center
  Add a quicklist entry -
  sudo nano /usr/share/applications/smplayer.desktop

Paste this in at bottom, save

  Actions=mpc

  [Desktop Action mpc]
  Name=Smplayer-mpc
  Exec=smplayer -mpcgui
  OnlyShowIn=Unity;

Start smplayer from the quicklist entry of smplayer-mpc, cursor will
run on for 12-15 sec's when not over a window

  Install minitube-ubuntu from software-center
Open, (may get cursor spin right there), search anything, start a video.
From quicklist choose an option > Play/Pause, cursor spins for 12-15 sec's.
when not over window

Also would affect a launcher icon where a quicklist entry launched a
qt4 app, same deal with cursor spin, for example if one had a launcher
icon whose quicklists launched media apps, all qt4 apps would get the
  spin on

Duped bug shows other test cases not involving qt4

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1283112] [NEW] Locally-integrated menus (LIM) stick to recently restored window even when disabled

2014-02-21 Thread Edwin Pujols
Public bug reported:

If I maximize a window and then restore it, the LIM will appear on the
title bar even when the option is disabled under Appearance. The menus
will disappear if I open a new window (of any application).

**Steps to reproduce**

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1278720] [NEW] Libreoffice HUD entries are unresponsive

2014-02-10 Thread Edwin Pujols
Public bug reported:

On libreoffice, if I press Enter/click on a HUD entry nothing happens. I
tried with Impress and Writer, the menu entries are shown alright, but

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1126108] Re: Indicator disappears entirely when disabling / turning off bluetooth

2014-01-28 Thread Edwin Pujols
After I started my laptop today the indicator wasn't shown. I guess this
is a separate issue. I mean, it's not that it disappears after switching
the bluetooth off, but that it isn't shown after logging in.

  $ grep -r . /sys/class/rfkill/rfkill0/{type,state,soft,persistent}
  /sys/class/rfkill/rfkill0/type:bluetooth
  /sys/class/rfkill/rfkill0/state:1
  /sys/class/rfkill/rfkill0/soft:0
  /sys/class/rfkill/rfkill0/persistent:1

  /sys/class/rfkill/rfkill0/state:0

2014-01-26 Thread Edwin Pujols
I got the update, but when I run:

  /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/indicator-bluetooth/indicator-bluetooth-
service

I get:

** (process:5350): CRITICAL **: bluez.vala:104:
GDBus.Error:org.bluez.Error.NoSuchAdapter: No such adapter

And the indicator won't be shown. Actually, I haven't seen the Bluetooth
indicator in a very long time (I am on trusty-proposed and my laptop is
an hp nx7400).

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1272540] [NEW] Global menu disappear with mouse button hold

2014-01-24 Thread Edwin Pujols
Public bug reported:

Another small quirk on Unity 7.

*Steps*

- Open an app, say Firefox.
- Unmaximize the window, so that the window buttons _do not_ appear on the
panel.
- Move the mouse pointer to the left corner.
- Now, hold the primary mouse button and move it to the right, keeping the
pointer inside the panel.

You'll notice that when the pointer reaches the first menu entry "File"
(or whatever) the menu starts flickering on the mouse movement. If you
release the primary button _in between_ the first menu entry and the
window title, you'll notice that the menu disappears and the only way to
make it reappear (with the mouse) is to move the pointer outside the
panel and then back inside the panel.

(It's very much a trivial bug, but kind of surprising :)

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1262745] [NEW] Cluttery/repeated playback controls

2013-12-19 Thread Edwin Pujols
Public bug reported:

Currently the sound indicator shows the playback controls of *each*
music/media player associated with it. I think this adds too much
clutter, and is possibly a waste of space.

I am not sure, but in previous versions I think the controls were hidden
unless I started the player clicking on its icon. (Maybe this is a
regression?)

I have added a screenshot.

Please, stop repeating the same question. Just click the "Affects me too"

I gave Trusty a spin, and the bug is fixed. I guess it's a matter of
time before the fix hits Saucy :)

Bug description:
This looks like a regression. Bug 88 describes what we now have
  in current trunk again.

  STR:

  1. Open 2 application windows, e.g. gnome-terminal
  2. Alt-tab to show desktop
  3. Click on gnome-terminal icon with 2 pips on the launcher

  Expected results:
Two windows are displayed in spread.

  Actual results:
One window is displayed in spread with another one still being there, the
outline appears on hover but the window itself is not displayed.

  ADDITION:

Furthermore "Show desktop" shows desktop on all workspaces which is not
desired behavior. This makes the issue even worse, because you can only use the
launcher and alt-tab to navigate between the windows which results in a big
usability bug.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1238950] [NEW] unity home lens empty after clearing history

2013-10-11 Thread Edwin Pujols
Public bug reported:

After clearing the search history under Privacy, the home lens shows the
message "Sorry, there is nothing that matches your search", even if the
search box has no text.

This is unintuitive and confusing. There should be "something" even if
the search history is cleared, maybe a default listing of common apps
and folders (maybe an Introduction Guide, too).

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1232301] Re: Removing Unity also removes ubuntu-desktop

2013-09-29 Thread Edwin Pujols
ubuntu-desktop is a metapackage which depends on the default Ubuntu
desktop (unity, unity lens, indicators, etc, etc). It is not a bug that
it will be removed if you remove Unity, since only makes sense for it be
installed if all its dependencies are installed.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1105886] Re: Dash Home menu screen graphics malfunction

2013-09-29 Thread Edwin Pujols
** Description changed:

+
+ If I open Dash Home menu screen before having opened anything it works fine.
Should I open any program or window, then try to open Dash Home menu, I get
malfunctions. Usually the icons are visible, but program descriptions are
filled in with color, such as a block of red or yellow. Other times the whole
menu is blank and turns black upon mouseover. Rarely, it locks up my graphics
card and have to restart system by switching to terminal (by using ctr+alt+f1).

Title:
Launcher tooltips and context menu are slow

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
When hovering the pointer around the Unity Launcher icons, the
tooltips (with the app name) load quite slowly, half a second or so
  before it's drawn on screen.

Also if I right-click on the Launcher icons, the context menu lags,
too. The bigger the area of the context menu, the longer it takes to
  be shown on screen.

This manifests on Intel 945GM graphics, with Core Duo.

BTW, the elements which use "Active Blur" are drawn quite slowly and
freeze the display while being drawn, too. (I read the related bug
report, but after adding -proposed and upgrading the bug kept
manifesting, I kind of solved it by deactivating Active Blur via Unity
  Tweak Tool).

Not sure if this is a duplicate or if I am reporting against the
  appropriate package, please correct me.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1232158] [NEW] "Restart..." entry appears after uninstalling u-s-c

2013-09-27 Thread Edwin Pujols
Public bug reported:

I have been using unity-system-compositor for a while (with -proposed
enabled). Recently Bug #1203355 has been "fixed" for me under u-s-c.
But, strangely, after I remove u-s-c and restart the computer the bug
reappears (there's a restart entry and a shutdown entry, and both show
the same dialog).

If I install u-s-c (without restarting), Bug #1203355 is "fixed" again.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1231796] [NEW] Loading animation fails/looks bad when starting a player

2013-09-26 Thread Edwin Pujols
Public bug reported:

To reproduce this I just need a media player registered in the sound
menu. I make sure the player is not running, then I click the play
button in the indicator to start the player. The result is an ugly
"loading" icon enclosed in an orange square.

Please take a look at the screenshots I provided.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 916542] Re: Unity spread "randomly" shuffles overlapping windows

2013-09-24 Thread Edwin Pujols
I can confirm this in saucy. At least with Firefox windows, the behavior
is kind of predictable for three windows: the last focused window will
appear "closer" to the Launcher. But for more than three is unintuitive,
not to say random.

With other applications, the bug doesn't seem to be reproducible for
certain number of windows:

- gedit's windows don't "shuffle" for less than 4 open windows.

- xfce4-terminal's windows don't seem to "shuffle" for less than 5 open
windows.

In conclusion, the bug persists in saucy.

Bug description:
When the spread is used to display multiple windows of the same
application, Unity will randomly order those windows if they overlap.

This is annoying when trying to locate one window from a group of very
similar windows, eg terminal windows. Since they all look the same in
the spread I have to check each one in turn. But because Unity
shuffles them around, it is impossible to tell which ones I have

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1229828] [NEW] Webapp icon disappears while navigating a web page

2013-09-24 Thread Edwin Pujols
Public bug reported:

If I go to say launchpad.net the webapp icon appears in the Launcher.
Now if from launchpad.net I browse to translations.launchpad.net or
bugs.launchpad.net, the icon disappears.

It is quite probable this is a problem with the webapp itself, so
correct me.

* What happens *
If I navigate within a webapp site, there's the possibility the Launcher icon
disappears (for example, go from launchpad.net to bugs.launchpad.net).

* What I expect to happen *
The webapp integration should be able to recognize that, for example,
launchpad.net and bugs.launchpad.net belong to the same webapp, so the icon
won't "toggle" visibility.

  * What I expect to happen *
The webapp integration should be able to recognize that, for example,
launchpad.net and bugs.launchpad.net belong to the same webapp, so the icon
won't "toggle" visibility.

2013-09-18 Thread Edwin Pujols
With the latest update (with -proposed enabled), I can confirm the
prospect looks better. Gmail and Launchpad and Twitter webapps are
installing correctly. ^^

Of course, might need more testing to be 100% sure.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1041175] Re: Overlay scrollbars obscure content in a maximised window

2013-09-16 Thread Edwin Pujols
If it does not go against current design focus, I think that the orange
bar could be made thinner (but still easy to see). Also I'm wondering
the thumb could be made to appear via mouse pressure when the window is
maximized, that is, in the same way you make the Launcher visible when
set to auto-hide.

This may be a simplistic solution, I don't know if makes sense. The
orange bar needs to be thinner (or to have a space of its own) because,
at least currently with Gtk+ and stuff, it obscures content (e.g. it is
drawn over the contents of gedit or evince); this is particularly bad
when the content contains small artifacts next to the window borders
(e.g. the related left-to-right languages bug).

The thumb being made visible via pressure I am not sure, but it would
help with maximize window issue, not sure if it would introduce other
more annoying problems.

Unable to access indicators from HUD

Status in Unity HUD:

Status in “hud” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
In Ubuntu 12.10 I was able to use HUD to access Messaging menu and Gwibber's
"Update Status" option there, making status updates to Twitter easy and fast.
I could also use HUD to change my status in Empathy from Available to Busy
and vice-versa.

In Ubuntu 13.04 Beta HUD no longer finds the "Update Status" option when
typing "Update Status" or "Update"
Also writing "Available" "Away" or "Busy" no longer gives any results.

Other indicators however are accessible and I can use HUD to Suspend
my computer or to view Skype status or Ubuntu one indicator options.

  Repeating:
  1. Press alt key to start HUD
  2. Write "Update status" or "Available"

  What was expected:
HUD should have shown options ether from Gwibber to Update Status or Empathy
to change status to Available both available from the messaging indicator.

  What happened:
  HUD didn't find any results.

  Notes:
  I have Ubuntu 13.04 Beta 64bit upgraded from Ubuntu 12.10 64bits and I'm
using proprietary fglrx drivers.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1219539] [NEW] Launcher tooltips and context menu are slow

2013-09-01 Thread Edwin Pujols
Public bug reported:

When hovering the pointer around the Unity Launcher icons, the tooltips
(with the app name) load quite slowly, half a second or so before it's
drawn on screen.

Also if I right-click on the Launcher icons, the context menu lags, too.
The bigger the area of the context menu, the longer it takes to be shown
on screen.
