Bug description:
unity-panel-service and hud-service quickly racks up memory and CPU
usage until I kill it when invoking the HUD on Firefox. It's taking
anywhere from a few minutes to half an hour, but it sometimes makes
  the system completely unusable.

  1. run Firefox 12.0 in the foreground
  2. hit Alt to bring up HUD
  3. type any text
  4. select one proposal from HUD
  5. wait for unity-panel-service and hud-service to fill up the remaining RAM
and swap space.

This is due to a high number of bookmarks in a user profile
  (hundreds).

[Dx-packages] [Bug 801073] Re: [dash] Dash is shown when pressing and releasing quickly super+KEY

2015-02-06 Thread Jorge Morais
On Ubuntu 14.10 this still happens, and annoys me. It happens both on
my laptop and my work desktop. Interestingly, Super+s and Super+w work
fine even if I type them extremely quickly, but Super+a does not work
and inputs 'a' to the focused application instead of opening the
application lens. Analogous problems occur with Super+f, Super+m,
Super+c and Super+v.

  Current Result:

  The dash shows up.

  Expected Result:

  Nothing happens.

Note: if you choose a key that is supposed to show a particular lens,
for example the A key, then it's even worse: the dash shows up and
  immediately disappears

2014-10-16 Thread Jorge
It seems that somehow my user got added to the nopasswordlogin group.I
solved this by going into the terminal and typing in the command line:
sudo gedit /etc/group and deleting my user name from the nopasswdlogin
group in the text file and then saving the file again. Now I can lock
the screen and the system requests a password on the ubuntu login
screen.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1380878] Re: lock screen doesnt work

2014-10-14 Thread Jorge
It seems that somehow my user got added to the nopasswordlogin group.
Removing my user from this group would solve the problem so I solved
this by going into the terminal and typing in the command line: sudo
gedit /etc/group and deleting my user name from the nopasswdlogin group
in the text file and then saving the file again. Now I can lock the
screen and the system requests a password on the ubuntu login screen.
The screen wouldn't lock before because there was no password with which
to lock the screen. The system didn't request a password because the
user was in the nopasswordlogin group. Thanks.

Kind Regards

Jorge

The number of pips next to the Launcher icon may not be accurate and
lead the user to believe that the number of open windows for a
particular app is not what is true in reality.

  [Test Case]

  1. Open up 2 Firefox windows.
  2. Close one of the windows.

Pips (the little arrows) next to the Launcher icon should reflect the
  number of open windows.

  [Regression potential]

  None identified.

  Original Description:

Only occurs when there is just 1 app's windows (unmaxed), assumes multiple
workspaces is enabled
  Test case:
Open nautilus (1 pip shows up
  R. click nautilus icon open another nautilus window (a 2nd pip does not
show, likely due to Bug 1281816
Drag the 2nd naut window fully into current ws, 2nd pip still not shown
Click on Desktop, 2nd pip shows up

Close one of the naut windows, icon still shows 2 pips.
Click again on Desktop, 2nd pip is then removed

regressions - I have been testing it for a couple of days.

The shortcut hint is not shown when workspaces are enabled in displays with
1366x768 resolution.

  [Test case]
  1. Run unity in a monitor with 1366x768 resolution.
  2. From Unity Control Center - Appearance - Behavior - enable the
workspaces
  3. Hold Super and keep it pressed, the shortcut should show up

  [Regression potential]
The potential of regression is basically none, we just resized the view to
make sure there's enough space for showing in smaller resolutions.

My notebook has a 1366x768 screen - it is a very common screen
resolution. When I boot Ubuntu 14.04 liveISO the keyboard shortcuts
overlay is displayed and works very well - therefore my screen
resolution is large enough for it. But after I installed 14.04 on my
hard disk, the shortcuts overlay does not show anymore.

The attachment is a screenshot of the shortcuts overlay working on the
  liveISO.

I'm under an updated ubuntu 12.04 Precise.

I think it should because of my screen resolution : 1024*600

Bug description:
Add keyboard shortcut hint overlay that is displayed when a user
presses and holds the Super key.

See the attached design Super_key_shutcuts_overlay.png. The overlay
should use exact same border and transparent material as Alt-Tab. The
keyboard shortcuts themselves are defined in the following google doc
  https://docs.google.com/a/canonical.com/document/d
  /1jqeKtIJwqLtl58Wk_fqjr9Rrgxn9zsouCYOo-
  cZsLSE/edit?authkey=CLGG9NkJhl=en_GB

This should be displayed every time the user presses and holds the
Super key, at the same time the Launcher keyboard shortcut hints are
displayed. Releasing the Super key should hide this overlay, again at
the same time the Launcher keyboard shortcust hints are hidden. If
screen size is smaller than 1024*768, the shortcut window should not
  be displayed.

Also not that the design of the Launcher keyboard shortcust hints has
  been updated.

The design is attached to this bug, see
  keyboard_shortcuts_overlay.png. Dimensions are detailed in
  attached image keyboard_shortcuts_sizes.png

  -

  Accessibility notes:
  - For users of screen readers, as soon as the Alt key is held down, a reading
of the text should be piped directly through to the speech dispatcher. The
reading should stop as soon as the Alt key is released.
  - This overlay should be automatically disabled if sticky keys are turned on

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1170647] Re: Clicking on Nautilus’ launcher icon opens new window instead of restoring the minimized one when browsing external drives/locations

Bug description:
Sometimes left clicking the nautilus launcher icon doesn't bring up a
minimized nautilus window. Instead of restoring the window a new
instance of nautilus is showing up.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open a nautilus window by clicking on the launcher icon.
  2. Navigate to a symlinked directory whose target is located on a different
harddrive (for example: a symlink to a folder on a sd-card).
  3. Minimize the nautilus window.
  4. Try to bring up that window again by clicking the launcher icon.

  What happens:

  1. A new instance (window) of nautilus is opened.
  2. There's no obvious way to access the first window again. The only way is
ALT+TAB.

  What schould happen:

If a nautilus window is already open and minimized clicking the
launcher icon should bring up that window. This was the behavior of
nautilus windows in Ubuntu 12.10 (quantal).

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1244285] Re: Date/time sometimes doesn’t appear in menu bar, settings greyed out (Ubuntu 13.10, 14.04)

2014-04-12 Thread Jorge Q
I'm also an affected user. Today after the first startup of the machine
the indicator dissapear. I applied the solution of Billisaacs (in the
other duplicated thread) after just killing the the unity panel this
appears in my terminal.

**@MyComputer:~$ apt-get install indicator-datetime
E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (13: Permission denied)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), are you root?
**@MyComputer:~$ killall unity-panel-service
**@MyComputer:~$

And after that, the datetime indicator appears. I have to note that I
killed the unity panel service and the datetime indicator before, but
it didn't appear and my Date time settings continued grayed. After run
the Billisaacs solution everything was fine. So, maybe for some reason,
the lock file is not cleared properly after upgrade which (I think)
explains why it affects only the user who uses more the machine, which
usually is the same user who do the updates.

My two cents and sorry for my English. I'm not a native speaker.
