Yes, I have this same problem with the dropbox indicator and also the pia indicator, the latter is more important as I can no longer switch which server I am using, so if this server I am currently using goes awry then I am stuck. The problem manifests more frequently as session uptime increases. Apparently the problem was caused by textures being cached and not freed, resulting in memory exhaustion conditions. It turns out the texture caching is unnecessary anyway. [ Test Case ] Verification requires an nVidia GPU with proprietary drivers. The problem can not be reproduced at will, only after some time (depending on resident GPU memory and usage) and even then only randomly and unreliably. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1314095] Re: Unity Lockscreen in 14.04 can't unlock when using LDAP account
Alternate work-around: I was able to login successfully by detaching the keyboard, and using the mouse to 'click-in' my password with the on-screen keyboard. I usually had to click on Switch Account in the 'gear' drop-down menu to get the assistive technology icon to appear to get to the on-screen keyboard, but once I did, I could enter a password and that worked to log me in. It's somewhat bizarre that this would work since the setuid work-around suggested above also worked for me. If it is some problem running unix_chkpwd, then shouldn't the on-screen keyboard have just as much difficulty with that? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. I could not disable the lock screen using my password. I rebooted my computer. Now: After logging in through lightdm, the unity lockscreen locks the screen immediately and I can not disable it using my password. Try hitting the host key (right-ctrl) then ctrl-alt-arrow to switch to a different desktop other that your Windows vm desktop. Re: [Dx-packages] [Bug 1305586] Re: Lock screen is unusable when some windows have a keyboard/mouse grab
I am usually in a windows VM full screen. So first I have to hit the nix attention button, then alt-ctrl-up to get to a nix desktop. This still doesn't give me keyboard control, but if I mouse over to the upper right like you're describing, but all I have to do is get the calendar icon to pop open, or the switch user menu or something. Don't actually have to click on anything, just get those things to respond. Then, finally, the login password prompt will respond. Clumsy but it works. If the application *is not* in focus when the user moves their pointer over the Launcher app icon, the first mouse wheel click towards or away from the user should focus the application, and bring the top most window in the application's z stack to the front of the global z stack. Subsequent clicks of the mouse wheel the operate exactly as described above. If the application is not running, or has only one open window mouse wheel clicking towards or away from the user when the pointer is over the application's launcher icon should do nothing. Because this behaviour will conflict with the current use of the mouse wheel to scroll the launcher, the mouse wheel launcher scroll should be changed to only work when the ALT key is held down. e.g. to scroll the launcher with the mouse wheel the user will have to press ALT + MOUSEWHEEL UP or press ALT + MOUSEWHEEL DOWN - Additional test case defining the interaction with minimised windows: hyia, minimised windows should be at the back of the stack. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1254032] Re: wrong position of window reported after switching workspaces
I also have this bug on a fresh install of Ubuntu 13.10. However, first I had trouble recreating the bug when I followed the instructions. But I clicked in the other application an additional time (which was not described in step 4) , and not only on the icon in the launcher. This already seemed to circumvent the bug, which would imply that some event that is triggered once you click/(or do something) in the other application does the magic which should also be executed once you click the icon in the launcher. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Matching subscriptions: dx-packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1254032 Title: wrong position of window reported after switching workspaces Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: After switching workspaces by using the mouse to click on applications, the pointer position reported is not correct which cause dropdown menus to be displayed at the wrong coordinates. Because workspace switching using the keyboard or the workspace switcher on the launcher works, I'll provide detailed instructions on how to reproduce this behavior. I also attached a sample tcl/tk program that shows this issue very well. You can execute this by installing `tcl8.5` and `tk8.5` and running `tclsh8.5 unity_bug.tcl`. Detailed instructions to reproduce behavior: 1. Open an application (eg firefox, chrome, thunderbird) in the top-left workspace. 2. Run the sample program I provided in the bottom right workspace. 3. Now click the file menu in the sample program, to see the position of this window relative to the top left corner of the workspace. 4. Now switch to the apllication in the top-left workspace by clicking that application in the launcher (do NOT use the workspace switcher icon or the keyboard) 5. switch back to the sample program by clicking the sample program in the launcher (again do NOT use the workspace switcher icon or the keyboard) 6. click the menu again, note that the position reported is the position of step 3 plus your screen resolution. Note that because of this the actual menu will show in the wrong place (bottom left corner of the workspace). After you drag the window, the behavior is correct again. NOTE that this is not a bug in tcl/tk! Open http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tryit.asp?filename=tryhtml_select in Chrome. Then switch workspaces by clicking a program in another workspace and switch back to chrome, the dropdown menu will not show up. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1244237] Re: Ubuntu 13.04 Unity desktop background smears when dragging windows
Just a quick update. I had a couple of days last week where I didn't have this problem. Am thinking of upgrading to 13.10. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. This also happens when windows are minimised or closed. It is especially noticeable when compiz animations are used as the window shrink/blur remains on areas of the screen where only the background shows. It has been reported on AskUbuntu with the title of 'Unity desktop "smears" (doesn't refresh) and shows no wallpaper' and one contributor says it doesn't happen with Cinnamon (though their post was deleted as not being an answer, as was mine). [Dx-packages] [Bug 1244237] Re: Ubuntu 13.04 Unity desktop background smears when dragging windows
Mmm, I have 12.04 at home on my laptop and have not had the problem, I will check and see that kernel level it is, though I normally apply updates when they are offered. I have experimented a little more today. I powered off and waited a few minutes, then on again and no smearing, even having started Nemo. And I even got my desktop image. About an hour ago Evolution got stuck so I closed all my apps, logged out and back in again and got smearing. I can tell because the Unity side bar and edges of the screen sometime have a line around or at one edge. Just now I powered off again, and went to make coffee. When I came back I switched on again and no smearing (but no desktop image, just black). Let me just start Nemo ... argh, smearing is back! Still not convinced it has anything to do with Nemo though. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1244237] Re: Ubuntu 13.04 Unity desktop background smears when dragging windows
It's now Thursday morning and I worked at home yesterday. When I powered on my work PC this morning I did not have the problem, though my desktop background is blank/black (it should be an image). I checked my mail and opened Firefox, and periodically checked my desktop and all was fine - no smearing. Then I opened Nemo and the smearing started right away. The reason I mention the bit about working at home yesterday is that I'm pretty sure that if I reboot (even shutdown and boot), I will get the smearing straight away even without starting Nemo. It only seems to be smear free if my PC is powered off at least over night. I doesn't make sense to me but there it is. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1244237] Re: Ubuntu 13.04 Unity desktop background smears when dragging windows
It is Monday morning and I have just started my PC. The desktop came up as a blue gradient which is what I set it to as part of my testing last week - rather than just a black background. I then opened Evolution and moved the window about - no smearing! I then opened Firefox and did a few things then opened Nemo then I moved the Nemo window and noticed that it was smearing again (not blaming Nemo by the way). All very strange. My desktop background is black now too. It seems like everything is fine initially then after a while is goes wrong. Perhaps some kind of server is failing or something like that. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1244237] [NEW] Ubuntu 13.04 Unity desktop background smears when dragging windows
Public bug reported: In the last week I have found that my desktop background is not refreshed when I drag windows across the screen. My wallpaper does not show either, even after I changed it, and it used to. My hardware it AMD A10-5700 with 7660D graphics on Ubuntu 13.04 with latest updates. I am using the fglrx-updates driver. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1239060] Re: Unity launcher does not remember icons position
To add a little to this. For those launchers that were present before update to 13.10, they remain in the same position. For those launchers added after update, they return to the bottom. For example I installed Fotoxx and it placed a launcher just above the workpalce chooser. I move it to be directly below the lens launcher and on next login it is back in the position just above the workplace chooser.
