The effect of the hyphenated path seems variable. Some apps show the wrong icon, some have a missing title, some have both errors. The problem only seems to be with hyphens in the directories. Hyphens in the file itself are fine. See the screenshot - Might and Magic 4&5 has had a desktop file installed under a subdirectory with a hyphen, whereas Heroes of Might and Magic has a desktop file in the root directory but contains a hyphen in the filename. I tested it on my default install by enabling lowgfx through CCSM. It did switch off all transparency effects. In my testing using virtual machine that animation was disabled so I guess it works as intended. Now that the Bug #1159249 is resolved for both 14.04 LTS and 15.04 I think this bug should get at least a higher priority. This is thread from Development Version section of Ubuntu Forums. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2273486 Obviously there were be many more users hitting this bug now that HUD actually works on top of fullscreen windows. Also there are at least three very popular games that use Alt key in their default setup for something. Those are Torchlight and Torchlight II (display of items) and apparently Dota 2. Workarounds for users involve disabling HUD entirely or disabling it before launching the game and then enabling it again after. Also open up upstart-monitor to see all the dbus messages being sent [Regression Potential] Some kind of hidden functionality depending on upstart events sent through D-Bus to the unity-panel-service may have become disconnected. Unlikely. [Other Info] The fix for Ubuntu 14.04 LTS was cherry picked from the Ubuntu Vivid Vervet dev release where it has been in regular use for some time without apparent regression. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1308037] Re: No results from application scope
Looks like I solved the problem on my machine thanks to a recent post in Ubuntu subreddit. The post was titled: How I sped up my Ubuntu Dash. The user had problems with Dash being very slow to show him search results and he found out that the culprit was Zeitgeist. This thing tracks the files, applications you used and your other activities. It turned out that his Zeitgeist history was over two years long! When I checked on my system I had it dating back to February 2012 so it was even longer than his. I deleted the folder /home/your_user_name/.local/share/zeitgeist (almost 700 MB of data) containing the Zeitgeist history just like he did and I confirm that it sped up Dash. But it also resolved the problem described in this bug report. http://www.reddit.com/r/Ubuntu/comments/2ysuqu/how_i_sped_up_my_ubuntu_dash/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. I made some tests but not on real hardware. I used VirtualBox. I didn't have any of the problems described in this bug report. When I resumed the only thing that displayed was lockscreen (no view of the desktop or it's past contents). Open two files: one with a .java extension, another with a .txt extension. 3. Switch between the .java file and the .txt file and back again. 4. Open the Source or Refactor menu in the Unity global menu bar. Expected result: menus with menu items Actual result: empty menus for both [Regression Potential] The fix involves changes to both gtk and unity-gtk-module. The changes to gtk are minimal and only involve the reversal of a pair of signal emissions, in a part of the code (GtkMenuTracker) which is normally used by desktop environments, not typical user applications. Therefore regression potential for the gtk update is unlikely. The changes to unity-gtk-module involve emitting show and hide signals where they were none before has some regression potential for applications that are explicitly watching for when their menus are opening and closing. But this is rare for applications to do, and we likely would have already received bug reports for those that do. Being completely sure would require extensive testing across all gtk apps though. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1305586] Re: Lock screen is unusable when some windows have a keyboard/mouse grab
I confirm what Simon Buchan wrote in his comment. - I start VirtualBox with Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS as guest, fullscreen - Wait for Unity lockscreen (timeout set to 1 minute for testing) - Keyboard input does not seem to respond, mouse works fine. Now there is other workaround to get input not going to the VM but to lockscreen text box. I just need to switch off fullscreen for the VM with keyboard shortcut Host + F (by default Right Ctrl + F) and then open indicators and finally switch to the lockscreen password text box. I have only one monitor. @Simon this particular problem might be resolved with the Unity SRU update. Christopher Townsend mentioned in comment #23 that the Compiz SRU doesn't resolve all the problems and that Unity SRU has still some fixes which should make this bettter. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Maybe it is known for others but I first tried without that and when it failed I looked at other python scripts to know what's missing. ** Tags removed: verification-needed ** Tags added: verification-done -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to libdbusmenu in Ubuntu. I'm marking it as verification-done because there are no more problems with unusable lockscreen. However there are some things which don't work entirely as expected. I've tested three programs VMware, VirtualBox and gksudo window summoned by gdebi. In case of VirtualBox everything worked, the screen turned off and it was locked and I had no problems unlocking it. In case of VMware and gksudo the screen turned off but it didn't lock until I released the keyboard/mouse grab in case of VMware, dismissed the window in case of gksudo. Until I released the keyboard/mouse grab I saw the desktop. When I released the grab lockscreen kicked in immediately and I was able to type my password and unlock. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1319542] Re: Unity urgent animation needs an adjustable time length.
If I remember correctly the Launcher already uses option C) when in auto-hide mode so just make it work the same when it is always visible. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Matching subscriptions: dx-packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1319542 Title: Unity urgent animation needs an adjustable time length. Status in Ayatana Design: New Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Ubuntu 14.04, fully up to date, Unity Version: 7.2.0+14.04.20140416-0ubuntu1 The Unity launcher in my setup is not hidden. It is always visible. The current behavior of the urgent animation goes like this: 1) An application needs attention (such as an instant message through Empathy or Skype) 2) Icon wiggles for about one second 3) Once the wiggle is over, the icon remains highlighted The problem is with step 2. The icon never reinitializes any sort of motion to catch the user's eye. People are busy. People are frequently multitasking. In a lot of cases, people are using multiple monitors or very widescreen monitors and their field of vision is in an entirely different place altogether. There really should be some sort of repeated motion that takes place to grab the users attention, thereby signifying that an application needs attention. A few possible solutions would be: A) Let the icon wiggle indefinitely until the user clicks on it. This is a bit obnoxious, because you have to consider the situations where a user might notice it, but might be too deep in a specific project to address it right away. This would stand as a potential distraction and/or annoyance, though it *would* eliminate the chances of the notification going missed. B) To allow the user to adjust the time frame in which the wiggle animation takes place. That way instead of one second, perhaps the user might want it to last 10 seconds, or 30 seconds, etc. There are times where I am engaging in an active conversation but switching to another application frequently. At times, I miss a message altogether despite the fact I'm looking at the screen. This is entirely due to the short time frame in which the urgent animation is moving. The length of time in which it moves is, more times than not, simply not long enough to be noticed. If the one second span could be adjusted, and say I have it set to 5 seconds, or 10 seconds, surely I would notice it. C) The most optimum solution in my opinion is to make the urgent animation continually come up over a specified span of time. Example, I receive a notification from Empathy, but I miss it. It wiggles and shortly thereafter stops wiggling, thereby just sitting idle but with the icon highlighted. A short time later, perhaps 30 seconds later, it wiggles again, and continues onward in 30 second intervals indefinitely until the user gives attention to the application requesting it. Option C would circumvent a potential annoyance factor of option A, and it would work around the fact that option B) would require another thing to change in the settings menu. All in all, there *really* should be a way for a user to more easily see that an application needs attention. A simple one second wiggle is not enough. A background highlight is not enough as it does not move to be noticed. You only notice a background highlight if you specifically look at the icon, whereas a motion-based notification (wiggle, etc) actually 'grabs' your attention to be noticed. Thank you for your time, consideration, and hard work. If I can be of any further assistance please let me know. Thank you again! [Dx-packages] [Bug 1292041] Re: Lockscreen doesn't turn off the screen
@Nick your bug is different. I don't get a second lock off the screen after unlocking. In this case the screen doesn't blank off at locked screen and when I unlock it after the normal timeout it goes to blank off mode. The turning off the screen happens even if I used my mouse or keyboard. However I don't need to unlock the screen twice. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1292041] Re: Lockscreen doesn't turn off the screen
Yes I have gnome-screensaver installed. apt-cache policy gnome-screensaver gnome-screensaver: Zainstalowana: 3.6.1-0ubuntu11 Kandydująca: 3.6.1-0ubuntu11 Tabela wersji: *** 3.6.1-0ubuntu11 0 500 http://ftp.vectranet.pl/ubuntu/ trusty/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status Default for screen blanking is 5 minute and I didn't change that setting. In my description I meant that screen didn't blank off even after 10 minutes of waiting on lock screen. NOTE: I'm not the only one experiencing this problem. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1289204] Re: Local Menus don't work when running as root or invoking as root with gksu [video demo]

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1257505] Re: Create Unity Control Center so can remain on old GNOME Control Center version
I purged the PPA today and reinstalled it again because you asked for it in mailing list. Normally the translations are there for this labels in System settings... All settings Appearance but in unity-control-center I don't see the Polish labels. Also all the labels in Appearance settings still display in English language but normally they are translated. There is one label in Brightness and blocking settings still in English. The rest of the labels display properly in Polish except Text Entry and Backup (which looks different than in 13.10) but that isn't translated normally. The settings for Online Accounts and Privacy finally work but clicking on the latter results in window becoming to wide and it also crashed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to indicator-datetime in Ubuntu. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1257505] Re: Create Unity Control Center so can remain on old GNOME Control Center version
After installing todays packages from PPA I observed several problems. The icon in the launcher still doesn't launch u-c-c but gnome-control- center. The dimensions of the u-c-c are not as they supposed to be and the window is wider but the height remains unchainged from the dafault. I couldn't use Privacy and Online Accounts settings. When I clicked their icons the settings didn't load only the location bar changed. When I closed the u-c-c window it opened again and again and again. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to indicator-sound in Ubuntu.
