On reflection, we won't backport this. If you need this functionality
you'll need to upgrade to 15.10 when it's released.

I have selected to have window menus in the window's title bar. This
works great, except for Qt apps. After selecting a menu item in a Qt

  1. Start qtcreator
  2. Resize window so that it is not maximised
  3. Select 'Help' - 'About Qt Creator'
  4. Dismiss 'About Qt Creator' dialog
  5. Move mouse over window titlebar - menu is no longer shown.

The only way to get the menu back, is to switch to another window, and

Note: This does not seem to affect the 'File' dialog from QtCreator -
I'm assuming this is because it loads the Gtk file dialog.

@Stephen
Sorry for my previous answer, it was a bit rude.

It's great to see this bug fixed for vivid, but since the target for
this bug was set from 7.2.x to 7.3.x, I wondered if one day the bug
would be fixed for 14.04 too. I'll be patient ;-)

[Dx-packages] [Bug 607796] Re: Launcher, Window management - Dragging and holding a selection over an entry in the Launcher should spread out windows belonging to that application

2014-07-21 Thread Michele Giacomoli
Hi, I'm trying the last unity version from trusty-proposed, and I find a
little defect.

Try opening 2 or more windows of the same app (for example nautilus/file
manager) in two different workspaces. Now from one of those workspaces
DnD something to the related icon on the Launcher: the spread will show
only the windows in that workspace. I think this is not a correct
behavior.

If the user drags and hold a file over a running application in the Launcher,
all the windows of that application should be shown with the spread. The user
should then be able to drag and drop the file in a windows in the spread to
load the file into that specific window.

  [Test Case]
  1) Open two windows instances of the same application (say firefox)
  2) Drag a file from the file-manager or the desktop and hover the firefox icon
  3) After one second the firefox icon is hovered, the spread will occur
  4) You should be able to hover one of the firefox windows and it should
show a spinner, after 750ms (by default) the hovered windows should be
focused
     and raised
  5) You should now be able to drop the content you're dragging (if the selected
     application supports that content).

  [Regression Potential]
This codepath was mostly disabled in the current compiz and unity code
because it was buggy, so the regression potential is very low, although it
might happen that, if some race-condition happens, when closing the scale the
launcher might be still painted as if it would be in scale mode (desaturated)
even if it's not the case anymore.

Re: [Dx-packages] [Bug 607796] Re: Launcher, Window management - Dragging and holding a selection over an entry in the Launcher should spread out windows belonging to that application

2014-07-21 Thread Michele Giacomoli
Hi Marco,

After I posted the comment I thought that your implementation was similar
to the mouse-clicking policy, so I thought maybe it was the expected
behavior. Now you confirmed me it was :)

Thank you for your answer, is not too common for Ubuntu developers to reply
in such short time.
Keep up the good work

2014-07-21 21:30 GMT+02:00 Marco Trevisan (Treviño) m...@3v1n0.net:

 Michele,

Well, I thought about that when implementing it, and I was a little
undecided, but I think this is actually the correct behavior considering
the way that workspaces are handled in unity, where they're always a
different world (so this is for alt-tab, and launcher).
So, in the same way you won't be able to switch - using the mouse - to a
secondary instance of an application that is open in a different workspace,
using the DnD should not behave differently.

So, in terms of consistency I think we're right. Although I understand
there's a loose of functionality (and no, pressing ctrl+alt+arrow to
switch workspace when dragging something is not convenient). so I think
we maybe could allow this when pressing Ctrl when clicking/DnD'ing over
an icon, or something like that.

Feel free to open a new bug, including ayatana-design.

Sorry Dirk, I war referring to comment #58, and didn't see that comment #61

In comment #58 Anish submitted a diff marked as a patch. I'd like to apply

It's not a patch - those are shell commands. Drop them straight into the
terminal, authenticate, and it'll rename the files and fix the problem.

unity makes confusion when trying to focus partitions' folders

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  How to reproduce
  version 1:workspaces disabled
  Open gedit
Click on a partition icon on the launcher
You see nautilus windows appears, a white arrow appears alongside of Files
icon and both the icon of the volume you clicked on and the File's one have a
backlight.
  Focus gedit
I see the white arrow is alongside of the Files icon, so if I want to focus
the partition's folder I should click on it. I do it
  Expected result
  Unity focuses the partition's folder
  What happens instead
Damn! It opens a new File window in my home folder, but if I click on the
partition icon it works... ok, I can get used to it, even if it's a bit
confusing...

Click on a partition icon on the launcher
You see nautilus windows appears, a white arrow appears alongside of Files
icon and both the icon of the volume you clicked on and the File's one have a
backlight.
  Switch to another workspace
I want to focus the partition's folder in the other workspace, as in the
previous case I see the arrow alongside File's icon and I click on it
  Expected result
Unity switches to the correct workspace and focuses the partition's folder
  What happens:
It opens a new File's window in my home folder. Ok ok, I have to click on the
partition's icon. I do it.
  Expected result #2
Unity switches to the correct workspace and focuses the partition's folder
  What happens #2
What!? The File icon wiggles and its edge becomes illuminated? Nothing else?
Do I really have to manually switch to the correct workspace and then click on
the correct icon? I can't realize a convenient way to focus the window on the
other workspace without doing it manually (which is not comfortable)

Sometimes left clicking the nautilus launcher icon doesn't bring up a
minimized nautilus window. Instead of restoring the window a new
instance of nautilus is showing up.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open a nautilus window by clicking on the launcher icon.
  2. Navigate to a symlinked directory whose target is located on a different
harddrive (for example: a symlink to a folder on a sd-card).
  3. Minimize the nautilus window.
  4. Try to bring up that window again by clicking the launcher icon.

  What happens:

  1. A new instance (window) of nautilus is opened.
  2. There's no obvious way to access the first window again. The only way is
ALT+TAB.

  What schould happen:

If a nautilus window is already open and minimized clicking the
launcher icon should bring up that window. This was the behavior of
nautilus windows in Ubuntu 12.10 (quantal).

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1170647] Re: Clicking on Nautilus’ launcher icon opens new window instead of restoring the minimized one when browsing external drives/locations

2014-01-21 Thread Michele Giacomoli
I have 3 other partitions apart from Ubuntu 14.04 one, one of which is
set in fstab to be automatically mounted at startup (and not by gvfsd).
I've noticed the behavior mentioned in this bug applies for the other
partitions, but not for this one. Maybe this info could be useful. Here
is the relative fstab line:

UUID=4031F06913658C89 /mnt/DATI auto nosuid,nodev,nofail,x-gvfs-show 0 0

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1228588] [NEW] unity makes confusion when managing partitions' folders

2013-09-21 Thread Michele Giacomoli
Public bug reported:

How to reproduce
version 1:workspaces disabled
Open gedit
Click on a partition icon on the launcher
You see nautilus windows appears, a white arrow appears alongside of Files icon
and both the icon of the volume you clicked on and the File's one have a
backlight.
Focus gedit
I see the white arrow is alongside of the Files icon, so if I want to focus the
partition's folder I should click on it. I do it
Expected result
Unity focuses the partition's folder
What happens instead
Damn! It opens a new File window in my home folder, but if I click on the
partition icon it works... ok, I can get used to it, even if it's a bit
confusing...

version 2:workspaces enabled
Click on a partition icon on the launcher
You see nautilus windows appears, a white arrow appears alongside of Files icon
and both the icon of the volume you clicked on and the File's one have a
Do
I really have to manually switch to the correct workspace and then click on the
correct icon? I can't realize a convenient way to focus the window on the
other workspace without doing it manually (which is not comfortable)

What!? The File icon wiggles and its edge becomes illuminated? Nothing else?
Do I really have to manually switch to the correct workspace and then click on
the correct icon? I can't realize a convenient way to focus the window on the
other workspace without doing it manually (which is not comfortable)

Title:
unity makes confusion when trying to focus partitions' folders

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  How to reproduce
  version 1:workspaces disabled
  Open gedit
Click on a partition icon on the launcher
You see nautilus windows appears, a white arrow appears alongside of Files
icon and both the icon of the volume you clicked on and the File's one have a
backlight.
  Focus gedit
I see the white arrow is alongside of the Files icon, so if I want to focus
the partition's folder I should click on it. I do it
  Expected result
  Unity focuses the partition's folder
  What happens instead
Damn! It opens a new File window in my home folder, but if I click on the
partition icon it works... ok, I can get used to it, even if it's a bit
confusing...

  version 2:workspaces enabled
Click on a partition icon on the launcher
