Title:
14.04 Unity integration with messaging applications not fully working.

Status in Unity:
  Confirmed
Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
On the three 14.04 installs I've done, I've noticed this same
situation come up. As seen in the screenshot below, when you receive
an instant message you get a number on top of the messaging
application in the Unity bar. This isn't the case in 14.04.

  http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/wp-
  content/uploads/2011/04/screenshotae_thumb.png

With both Pidgin and Empathy (using Google Talk), I do not receive the
number on the icon to indicate how many new messages I have. With
Empathy in particular I did notice that brand new conversations do
list a 1 there, but once I engage in conversation and later
background Empathy, new messages do not put a number on the icon to
indicate that I have unread messages. In prior releases of Ubuntu,
  this seemed to always work.

  Thank you for your time!

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1304186] Re: 14.04 Unity integration with messaging applications not fully working.

2014-04-25 Thread Aibara Iduas
I don't remember Pidgin ever showing numberes in the launcher (but the
screenshot provided here looks like it's from 11.04, which I didn't
use), so I don't think it's a new issue in 14.04 in its case. It would
be nice to have though.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1304186] Re: 14.04 Unity integration with messaging applications not fully working.

2014-04-19 Thread StewVed
This bug also affects me. I am using a Fresh install of Ubuntu 14.04
64-bit (With separate /home partition from 13.10 install reused)

Empathy simply is not integrated with the messaging menu. All that is
there is the Empathy list entry below the statuses, which does nothing.

Even when I manually run it, no 'running' dot appears, and the messaging
status remains Offline, despite Empathy being Available, and connected.

Closing Empathy, and clicking Empathy in the messaging menu also does
nothing. Minimising it seems to work OK, though that is the same as
Pidgin without the bug-ridden libnotify plugin that integrates it.

Is there something that links Empathy to the messaging indicator missing
perhaps?
