[Dx4win] Search for Blank Manager Field?

John, K2CIB

Use !* for NOT any-character in the manager field. (It's actually
buried in the help files, I think in the examples sub-section for searching
from the QSO window.) Of course, you'll specify Y for label and DIRECT
in the method.

Can the print format in the date field of labels be changed to -mm-dd?

Thanks

Does anyone have updated QSL Manager and Prefix database files somewhere
that roll up all the corrections and revisions that have been on this list ?

[Dx4win] Country Database

2002-05-06 Thread Bob Naumann - N5NJ
Go to the K1B QSO.

Change the prefix field to KH1.

Baker has been KH1 for longer than DX4Win has been around.

No need to change the country database.

You only need to link that QSO with the Baker record.

Subject: [Dx4win] Country Database

I've posted this to this list before, but haven't had any luck on getting
a response.

I paid for DX4WIN, version 4, but I don't seem to get anything in the way
of support of the country database.

Does anyone out there have a reasonably up-to-date country database file
they can supply?

I'm not a big gun DX'er. I just putter around and log one or two new ones
every once in a while. So I don't have the interest in maintaining my own
country file. Why should I? I paid for the program, and there are folks out
there that are much more into computers and DX than I am!

I worked K1B. It comes up as US. I tried to modify the country database,
but nothing I do seems to work.

Please don't bother replying with a list of detailed step-by-step
instructions on how to fix my own country file for K1B. I have no interest
in learning this; my file is probably out-of-date on 27 other countries and
prefixes; and even if I got this one in, I'd forget how to do it by the next
time I needed to do it.

Maybe someone could suggest a logging program that works as well (or
better than) DX4WIN, AND HAS A WEB PAGE WHERE I CAN GET DATABASE UPDATES!!!

[Dx4win] Label printing problem

2002-05-06 Thread Paul van der Eijk
David,

I have seen this bug with a HP1100 printer; downloading the latest
driver for your printer may solve the problem. If you use the latest
version already, you can try to define a label format using a custom
page size of 8.5 x 11 (It was the letter size that caused the problem)

Looking to solve a small problem with DX4WIN (ver 5.03), which I just
installed on a new computer in the shack. I'm an experienced DX4WIN and am
totally frustrated that I cannot figure this one out!

The problem is in the QSL label printing routine. I use Avery 5161 labels -
two labels across each sheet, 10 down each page. Going to Labels/Print QSL
Labels/Edit, I have 5161 selected. But when I select Preview, what I see on
the Preview Editor is 1.5 labels across, with the page only 5 1/2 inches -
rather than 8 1/2 inches - wide. That results in only 1 1/2 labels across the
sheet, rather than two.It prints that way, as well.

In the label editor, the paper specified is Letter, which is 8 1/2 x 11
inches, although, of course, it's grayed out a result of selecting 5161.

Any ideas?

Many thanks.

Maybe you have trouble getting a response because your attitude
sucks. Version 4 is outdated. In any event, database maintenance is a
user function and fully explained in the manual. RTFM and enter the new
countries yourself.

Sorry butyou owe me attitudes such as yours P*** me off.

[Dx4win] Multiple QSL managers for different modes on same callsign

2002-05-06 Thread Alan C. Zack
OK, how about doing a CQWWDX from a DXpedition using a heavy duty truck
battery for transmitter power and a 12 volt table light when the commercial
power is off 8 to 10 hours a day, running on all 5 bands and using a paper
dupe sheet for each band. THAT gets to be real fun without a PC and
computer log.

 Actually, many of us did.

I used the 5BDXCC sheets that Cuschcraft used to give out in Dayton every
 year.

I color coded SSB qsos red, cw qsos blue, and a black dot indicated when it
was confirmed. 5BDXCC all on one 11x14 sheet of paper with 3 'Flair' pens.
 Very low-tech.

It was all done on paper - and - imagine this - much of the details were by
 memory!

It was not uncommon for people to remember facts like who the QSL manager
was for an operation - even two of them - one per mode like for this K1B
 operation.

We didn't chase every band/mode combination, so we didn't need such
exhaustive record keeping. I recall having 3 DXCC lists, one for each
mode. A check mark next to the country meant worked, and if/when I
got a card, it was crossed off.

Dang..have y'all become so spoiled with the automation of logging,
   that
y'all have forgotten what was done using paper logs? Remember them?
 Why
not just use the notes for this QSO box for situations such as this,
 and
move on! Is it really necessary to have the manager printed on the
 label
   for
direct QSL's? Bureau QSL's are another situation, and would require
 some
alteration?

What I've found to work for me is to alter the callsign such as;
 K1B/SSB
   for
SSB QSO's and list the manager for that callsign as RZ3AA and all
 other
modes for K1B QSO's QSL to YT1AD. You do have to remember to alter the
callsign for any SSB QSO but if you set the first SSB QSO with K1B to
K1B/SSB and also make the Baker Howland Island exception for K1B/SSB
 in
the prefix box, then set the QSL manager to RZ3AA, all subsequent
 QSO's
   with
K1B/SSB will have the correct QSL manager. 73, -=Rog-K9RB=-
