Fw: [Dx4win] CW port keying with XP
Steve and Brad, I'm running Windows XP Home and DX4WIN, and, indeed, the parallel port keying works fine. One snag that can happen - if you have a Win9X or WinME installation with DX4WIN and you upgrade to WinXP, you either need to reinstall DX4WIN, or perform the incantation that Paul posted here several months ago. Either of these methods causes a new device driver for the parallel port keying to be installed. Upgrading alone to WinXP from any of the Win9x derivatives without doing this will result in parallel port keying not working. Hope this helps. 73, Duane Duane A. Rich, I thought you had to reinstall windows when you changed motherboard; maybe others can confirm this. I would never upgrade a system that way. The best way for a lot of reasons is to start with a clean, formatted hard drive and first re-install the operating system, then all of the programs one at a time. You will need to have the old .ini file, your log file, and .cty file to get the re-installed version of dx4win up and running. The problem you are having now is more than likely due to the difference in com and lpt ports and their IRQ assignment between the old and new system. This causes IRQ conflicts and all sorts of blue screens and freezes. The worst offenders are sound, modem, and network cards that can crash your system. The easiest way to troubleshoot the problem is to remove every card out of the system except the display board, get dx4win working, then install the boards back one at a time with the sound card last. This is not even foolproof unless you can disable the so called "Plug and Play bios" which can undo things faster than you can fix them. Although DX4WIN will run without any com ports, most users are at least using a com port for a tnc or radio control and possibly an lpt port. Good luck. I think the problem your friend is having has little to do with DX4WIN and a lot to do with the initial computer set up and software installation. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of RCARIELLO Sent: Thursday, May 30, 2002 6:31 AM To: Dx4win@mailman.qth.net Subject: [Dx4win] Help Error Msg w/ AMD Computer Hello to all, Sending this message for a friend Running Win4DX version 4.07. [Dx4win] Help with Logic 2.1 log file
Hello all, A fellow is trying to convert his log from his old program to DX4WIN format and what he is sending me, I can't work with. (I don't have any special tools or utilities for working with different file formats, etc) The files are from Logic version 2.1 and are in a .dbf format, which neither DX4WIN nor Excel like. Anyone out there who may still have this program, or at least some working knowledge of it, who may be able to give me a hand sorting this file out for this fellow? 73 de Steve, NR4M -No goats were harmed in the making of this 'cheese'.

[Dx4win] More fields?
Now that I am becoming accustomed to DX4WIN I am beginning to want to expand it a little. Is there any way that I can add fields to the database and then customize the QSO window to show them? I don't mind doing a bit of VB programming if that is what is necessary. For example, I am currently putting the following in the QSL notes field: Power used (especially for QRP) Frequency Offset frequency (for PSK31) Adding /M when I am mobile Giving my Lat/Lon and county when mobile My rig used My antenna used Sure, that is probably unimportant data for many of you. That I why I would like to just add it to mine. I like getting cards with info like that so I hope at least a few others do too. One other possibility would be to add some fields like USER1 through USER10 to the database and have them as optional hidden fields on the QSO form. Just curious, Ron, AG5RS
