Re: [Dx4win] K3 with DX4WIN

2009-06-06 Thread N5PO
I am using an Orion 1 with DX4WIN and does the very same thing that Dave is
having a problem with...Grabbing a spot ALWAYS changes my mode to
LSB...Operation with the FT2000 is normal.

I'm using a K3, and prefer USB on CW.  However, whenever I grab a
spot, DX4WIN changes the radio to LSB.  How can I modify the
configuration so that DX4WIN either does not change the mode, or sets
the radio in USB CW when grabbing a spot?

[Dx4win] strange behavior of Log for unknown reason (Info)

2009-06-06 Thread Giorgio Borgo
Hello DX4win-users!

Strange behavior for unknown reason. As I entered the newly arrived QSLs
(cfm field to "Y") I did not found 6 of the qsos! First I thought
misswrited call signs, but it wasn't.

Following QSO showed me the "bug": 6W/DL7CM on 80m

He wrote me "not in Log" So I tried to delete this entry (and I know for
sure it was the only one 6W station I ever tried to work on 80m)

I could not find this QSO filtering by:

-Search by call
-Search by date
-Search by band
-Search by Prefix
-looking through the complete log without filter
(search by mode is useless, operating is cw only)

Then I tried: Reports> DXCC> listing
6W on 80m was marked as mailed! (As I did in 2006)
double clicking the "M" ended with "QSO not found"!

Now I wrote down the complete log as .csv file, opened a backup from
28.Nov 2008 wrote this down as a .csv file too. Comparing this two files
in a spread sheet made another suprise: No differences so far!

As I reopened the original Log file all missing QSOs showed up and I
could set cfm field to Y and delete the 6W qso on 80m. Reproducing the
bug was not possible, I closed and opened the Logfile several times.

What's annoying me: How many of the QSLs I sent back before, marked "not
in log", were really not in log?

Had anyone this experience too?
I expect the bug is not dangerous, but sure annoying. If you not sure
about one of your QSOs, I suggest close and open the log and try
again.

Used PCs /Software:
DX4WIN 7.05.04
Ubuntu 9.04, Linux-Kernel 2.6.28-11
Emulator Wine 1.1.7
on a PIII Coppermine / 512MB RAM
(Backup system is same Software on a AMD Athlon XP 2400+ / 512 MB RAM)

[Dx4win] strange cluster result

2009-06-06 Thread William Osborne
Hi All,

I have a very odd problem; I am using ver 7.07 and it has been working fine
for several months. Today I cannot connect to several of the clusters I
normally use (cluster.w9zrx, k5utd.utd.edu) it just sits there or sometimes
gives me an "exception error". I can connect to w0mw.dynip.com but not
others with dynip addresses.

Does anyone have an ideas what this could be? I did get .tcp file from any
other folder and that did not change anything.

Thanks

Bill, K5ZQ

Re: [Dx4win] strange cluster result

2009-06-06 Thread David Kozinn, K2DBK
I did a little checking, and k5utd.utd.edu doesn't exist (at least not
anymore), it has no DNS entry. (DNS is kind of like the phone book for
the Internet.) However, I looked in a fairly recent dx4win.tcp file and
found an entry for k5utd.utdallas.edu, but apparently there's no cluster
software running there. Could be that it's been shut down.

As for cluster.w9zrx, that's not a legal name, but a look in the
dx4win.tcp file shows dxc.w9zrx.net as the full name. It seems that
system isn't running either.

Generally speaking, if you can access at least one or two things in the
cluster list, it's probably an issue with the clusters not being
available rather than something wrong with DX4WIN. If you can't get to
anything (doesn't seem to be the issue for you), then it's at least
possibly an issue with your internet connection. (Simple test is to open
a browser and try to go to something like google.com; if you can't get
to it, then it's probably an internet issue.)

I would suggest that you download Jim's latest TCP cluster file from

[Dx4win] DX4WIN freezes for a particular callsign?

2009-06-06 Thread Rick Borken
Here is something I found very strange. I wonder if anyone else has seen
similar behavior by DX4WIN? I'm using v 7.07.02.

Yesterday I worked 3A2MD on 20m CW. As soon as I entered the callsign in the
callsign entry window, the program froze. It wouldn't let me save the
program, delete the callsign from the window or anything. I had to use
Ctrl-Alt-Delete to end DX4WIN and re-gain control of my PC. It did the same
thing three times in a row. The only way I could manage to enter 3A2MD into
my log was to enter a dummy QSO with the dummy callsign 3A2AA (which worked
fine), export a one-QSO ADIF file containing that dummy QSO, edit the ADIF
file to change 3D2AA to 3D2MD, and import it into DX4WIN. That worked fine.

2009-06-06 Thread Paul van der Eijk
Giorgio,

Just in case: when you close a log and open the log again, you will
implicitly set the selection to 'all QSOs'. If you had a Selection
enabled which did not contain your 6W/DL7CM contact, what you observed
is understandable.

2009-06-06 Thread John Shaw
Rick,

When this happens do you have the QRZ database lookup running? If so try
the call without the lookup (F3) and see if you get the same result.
