Re: [Dx4win] Log for second callsign

2013-08-21 Thread ALAN ZACK
I keep two separate logs, one for my home QTH and another for when I operate
from the Philippines. Since these are two different DXCC CTY locations if I
did not keep separate logs my DXCC, IOTA, etc tracking would be messed up
because I might think I have a new CTY for K7ACZ that actually was logged as
K7ACZ/DU. When I look in my SAVE sub folder I have my main log, K7ACZ.DXL
and the other log I named DUlog.DXL. I can go back and forth by closing one
and opening the other.

If you want to keep the logs completely separate, shouldn't you use two
separate log files instead of one file with group numbers? Make a log for
N4GG and another for WA4BTC? You would need separate keys, etc, for LoTW,
but could merge the two (or more) files there for your DXCC.

Hal,

The group numbers work out very well for me. As said, I do maintain all my
DXpedition calls and PG5M contests in a single log, but using the group
numbers to identify the respective call/contest. Now with incoming QSL's, I
just type in the call and get all QSO's listed that I worked, regardless the
DX-call or contest. Next I can confirm the respective QSO's. A the time of
printing, I let the program also print the group number at the bottom of the
label (this is a tick box in the QSL printing menu). Now all QSL labels come
with the call associated with the group number. Example: "You worked 3D2GM"
or "You worked PG5M CQWWCW". With all the sheets with labels in front of me,
I peel off the label and can see on what QSL card I have to stick the label.

The benefit of this process is that you don't need to run label printing for
each call sign. Especially when people send me QSL requests for different
call signs, I can confirm in one go, instead of opening different
logs/databases to check the different calls.

Thanks Gerban,

I have gotten this far. I cant seem to label groups 1 and 2, but as long as
they are numbered I can always figure that out later. As a stand along
long, I found it troubling that the callsign in "preferences" was not the
old callsign but locked down to the new one.
I suppose in the end this does not matter.

I have several logs in DX4WIN. It's so easy Under file,

Click on 'new'. Enter one QSO. Save the 'new' log using 'Save AS'
and assign it that callsign. A new .DXL file will be created as that call.
Enter the rest of your Q's saving as you go.
Don't forget to go back to your present call using the Open command
under file.

I have my standard DX4WIN W6KY.DXL
Club call  KK6XN.DXL
and Novice log from the 50's as KN0OQA and K0OQA.DXL's

Whenever I need to add WPX Q's (that rare KK6) tomy KK6XN
log, I open up KK6XN.DXL and import. Then go back to my
standard W6KY log.

To me, using Group numbers to mix logs together just makes
things difficult to manage.  I only use Group numbers to identify
contest. That way when I enter a call I'm about to work, (V73NS for exam)
it shows all the Q's and what contest I have worked him is.

Hal,

To be more precise on how I handle this, do the following.
You have your current log which may be called MASTER or N4GG (whatever name
you use).
Assuming you have the other logbook already in an electronic format, create
a new log (File | New) and give it a name (you can use the call sign for
that log). Next you have to indicate the group number for the QSO's in this
log. Go File | Preferences | QSO, and fill 2 in the Group field. I assume
you have 1 for the first log.
Next import all the QSO's into this log.

Now you can handle the 2 different logs accordingly or you can merge the two
logs. To do the latter, take the following steps:
First open the first log (MASTER or N4GG in this example).
Next: File | Import | and chose DX4WIN8 I/E and chose from the menu File |
Import. Follow the next steps to select your file with the second log and
import it. Save the log.

Now go to the menu and chose Filter | Edit Group Names (look in the manual
how to do this) and give a name to the group numbers. In your case 1 is N4GG
and 2 is the other call. Once ready, you will have all calls in one log but
you can see for which call the QSO is (assuming you have selected "group
field" in your logbook report.

Re: [Dx4win] Logging from two locations

2013-08-21 Thread Kostas SV1DPI

This answer applies to another question for a second callsign...
Both you should work with groups. For example you can have group 1 for
the location1 and group 2 for location 2. See more about groups in help
file and in my notes here

http://www.qsl.net/sv1dpi/en/dx4win/workinggroups.html
Have in mind that working with selections you can separate dxcc totals
between the groups or to have them all together (the default which is
the normal in your case)

Re: [Dx4win] Log for second callsign

2013-08-21 Thread PY2YP
I have used the group feature for years. It is a great tool for proper
statistics for each call. The group number zero will comprehend all
calls for statistics purpose.

You have your current log which may be called MASTER or N4GG (whatever name

Import. Follow the next steps to select your file with the second log and
import it. Save the log.

2013-08-21 Thread Charlie Cunningham
Hi, Hal

Well, I just went into my N4BZX log, and it shows K4OTV in the preferences.
I also found that it apparently can't be changed - maybe because I purchased
DX4win as K4OTV?

It's never caused me any problems, either in DX4Win or LOTW. I did import
thousands of QSOs from an old N4BZX LogWindows log without any problem.

GL!

Have tried everyones' suggestions and not gotten where I would hope. I
have no trouble setting up a new log, in this case called WA4BTC.DXL. I
can save it and re-open it. But under preferences it still says N4GG
and that cant be changed. Is suspect that is locked in via my license?

Hal - I believe you are correct. I have many different log files and on
the Personal Tab of the Preferences, they all say N7CW. It must refer to
the license, but it doesn't show up anywhere else where it might interfere
with logging operations (at least that I have ever found).

Re: [Dx4win] Log for second callsign

2013-08-21 Thread Charlie Cunningham
Hi, Hal

Well, I know it can be done, because I've done it - at least in v. 8.05.

My present call is K4OTV. That was the call I was originally issued in 1957.
But I worked an awful lot of CW DX as N4BZX. I had to go the vanity call
sign route to get my original call back.

It's been a while, but I think that all I did was go into the "File" menu
and open a second log for N4BZX. I now have both in DX4Win. I was able to
merge them in LOTW. I don't remember changing any preferences - just opened
a second log for N4BZX. Give it a try. GL!

Charlie, K4OTVex N4BZX, ex W9MXW, ex W3EJN, ex K4OTV

You can use group numbers and link a call to that. This way I maintain all
