I made a critical mistake when I released the latest Custom Award
database. I did not realize the error until I tried the POTA
conversion myself, after Help | Check for Updates. The error is in
the file that maps the old reference numbers to the new reference
numbers. There are two entries for [POTA]. The first one should have
been removed, but it was not. I would have noticed this if I had done
even a little testing with the released files.

To fix the problem, you will have to go back to your original logbook
(before the POTA award conversion). Any QSOs you made subsequent to
this will have to be added to the "fixed" logbook after the
conversion. Make sure to copy your latest logbook somewhere safe, so
you can add those QSOs later (see the end of this message).

You can take one of two approaches.

1. Wait for Paul to release the Custom Award map. You will know that
this has happened when you try Help | Check for Updates and see "Maps
old Custom Awards to New Awards" as one of the files to be updated.

2. Edit the award map yourself. First, exit DX4WIN. Next, navigate
to your SAVE directory. Using Notepad, edit the file "awdmap.txt".
Use control-F to find the first [POTA] entry in the file. It should
look like this (I am showing some lines before and after to give you
context):

[OHPO]
NewAwd=OHPOTA

[POTA]
K-(\d{4})=K-0$1
KFF-(\d{4})=K-0$1

[ROBI]
([A-Z]{2})([\d]{2}.*)$1-$2=(null)

Remove the four lines beginning with [POTA] (including the blank line)
so that it now looks like this:

[OHPO]
NewAwd=OHPOTA

[ROBI]
([A-Z]{2})([\d]{2}.*)$1-$2=(null)

Save the file. Restart DX4WIN. Then you can follow the instructions here:

http://ad1c.us/dx4win/awards/POTA.html

Finally, you should merge any new QSOs from your latest logbook into this one.

File | Import/Export
File | Merge DX4WIN log

Choose the option to Ignore Duplicate QSOs when you do this.

This will cause pain for some people. I am truly sorry.

If we are going to File/Preferences/Ext Data, in the Callsign Lookup Address

K8R had an end-date of 22 July for mapping to KH8. If you enter an earlier

extend the end date of K8R's activity in the next release, since they still

Easy to fix Josep,
Put K8R in callsign, next in Prefix, change K to KH8
Enter the qso
Now select the fake K8R and do CTRL+DEL
This qso is deleted in your logbook
Next time K8R shows up in cluster or you add it it will be KH8

2024-07-18 Thread Jim Reisert AD1C
I am very sorry that I have not yet released an updated Custom Award
database with the new Parks on the Air (POTA) reference numbers. The
good news is that I have sent a test database to one DX4WIN user and I

updated Custom Award database with instructions for converting the old
POTA reference numbers to the new numbers.

 FWIW...
I import ALL my QSOs from several sources into DX4WIN. These would be the
.ADIfiles from N1MM, WSJT, etc., from several computers. DX4WIN becomes my
masterQSO bank on my main radio computer and it is backed up regularly.
During the imports, DX4WIN asks what is to be done with duplicate QSOs and I
tellit to ignore them. Weekly, I export the non-duplicated QSOs from DX4WIN to
a .ADIfile which is then uploaded to LoTW.  It is all straightforward and goes
without a hitch.My DX4WIN currently has over 306K QSOs living there on a WIN7
Dell.

For what it's worth, I always use the LOTW export out of DX4WIN after importing
from WSJT-X or anything else (e.g., N1MM). I would think if there was an actual
issue with the WSJT-X ADIF itself the development team would have been aware

Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN Yields LOTW SUCCESS !

2024-07-07 Thread k2dbk
The restriction on logs wasn't just the size of the log, it was logs that
contained a high percentage of QSOs that had already been uploaded. I don't see
any reason to remove that, assuming it's smart enough to recognize that a QSO
that's been modified (e.g., change band or time, etc.) isn't the same as the
original.

LOTW has been 'caught up' for a couple days, with processing times of around a
minute and fewer than 100 logs queued at any given time.

The restriction on large logs might be removed, or should be soon.

On the LOTW page, select 'Your Account > Your Activity", click on 'Result' and
it will tell you if that submission was accepted or rejected.

Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN Yields LOTW SUCCESS !

2024-07-07 Thread jmaass
LOTW has been 'caught up' for a couple days, with processing times of around a
minute and fewer than 100 logs queued at any given time.

The restriction on large logs might be removed, or should be soon.

On the LOTW page, select 'Your Account > Your Activity", click on 'Result' and
it will tell you if that submission was accepted or rejected.

Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN Yields LOTW SUCCESS !

2024-07-07 Thread Dan Violette
I was going to say similar. You should not be uploading your COMPLETE WSJT ADI
each time (if containing all your old uploaded QSOs too). Duplicates may not
normally cause an upload problem/error, but uses LOTW server time to scan the
duplicates, which would now be quite large after years of FT8. Having hundreds
do that is not insignificant time consumption despite the good speed of LOTW
server processing. There are limitations in place right now to prevent
duplicate logs being uploaded so the server may have stopped after certain many
duplicates since 99+% were duplicates before the new ones would start
processing.

I also exported from DX4WIN to cover ALL QSOs (phone, CW, etc.), not just WSJT
modes, at the same time with one upload (when I was using DX4WIN). I dated the
filenames so I knew where to begin the next download.

[Dx4win] Windows Off Screen

2024-07-07 Thread Bud Governale
I'm moving DX4WIN from a windows ten computer to a windows eleven computer.
The DX4WIN program in the new Win 11 computer is running using a copied
config file from the Win 10 computer.
The world map window, the dx4win title window and the entry window are open.

I wrote the ini file to thumb drive from the old win 10 computer. In the
win 11 computer the ini file was written. That accomplished nothing.

The issue is I cannot open on screen any other dx4win windows.
Nothing happens when I click on Country, Sun rise, Logbook etc window
selections.
All the other window selections in the entry window such as QSO, Sort,
Filter, QSL's, LOTW etc all open on screen.

I suspect the missing windows are opening off screen for Country, Sun rise,
Logbook etc window selections.

How do I get these to open on my smaller monitor?

I'm on digest.
Please also send your replies directly to me.

Hello Wayne,

This happens if you close your log file (QSO Window) before closing the
program. Get all the windows set where you want them, then do
File > Preferences > File > write configuration file. Save changes and exit.
When you close the program, make sure you close it from the menu bar up top
and not from the QSO window. (I have made that mistake more than once and
more than twice!)

[Dx4win] Windows Off Screen

2024-07-05 Thread Bud Governale
I'm moving DX4WIN to a new computer with a different size screen.
The Entry window is visible on screen but when I try to open any of the
other windows I don't see them.
Likely because they are off screen.
How do I get all Windows unfrozen from their old positions from the 40 inch
monitor to become visible and moveable on the new 24 inch monitor?

Also I forgot how to expand the Entry window to show the window that has
the awards across the top line and three rows for DXCC and something else.
I do this when I do a submittal or receive a qsl card to update DX4WIN.
I've done this a thousand times but now brain dead on how to expand or
contract this section of the entry window.

C‘mon ! It must be a very «complicated and expensive» feature to implement — a
kind of WSJT or JTDX or MFSK engine like we have MMTTY here for years!
Didn’t we have to pay 30USD just for FT-mode integration as a main logging
function? And there is no FT4 in the normal Mode box, so you have to put MFSK
from the pull-down menu and then add FT4 in the Submode box to enter the QSO.
However when you make and ADIF export in order to upload it to LOTW — you won’t
get a credit for your match ‘cause LOTW has no idea what it is. Thus you have
to edit your ADIF first and replace MFSK with FT4 — very nice, isn’t it ?

*
THIS IS NOT TRUE,
I uploaded a few 1000 qso's with Mode=MFSK and SubMode = FT4 or Q65 and I get
matches and CREDITS all the time in LoTW
Maybe your TQSL is outdated ?
*

Unfortunately I’ve been facing problems with Custom Awards Submission feature
for many years and no-one was able to help. Looks like this SW is able to
process only one Custom award from the list. And if you add a 2nd or 3rd etc.—
you’ll have a real mess — a mixture of your submitted QSOs for all of the
Custom award programs you participate in. Fortunately there are no problems
with standard awards like DXCC, WAZ, IOTA etc. And also there is no way to
calculate a number of unique calls based on your sorting criteria. There is not
even a box for the Continent, so if you want to find out how many Qs you’ve got
in your log from EU — the best way is to put a filter for each of EU zones
followed by clicking «count» and then summarize them manually. Please forgive
me if I’m wrong — but I couldn’t find any solution even by using a «Multiple
QSO Operations» menu.

If there are any experts in the group reading this — please share your ideas,
maybe the problem is not that big that I’ve described and I’m sorry for that.

***
Like I wrote in previous email +30 years ago it was a TXT file that I added now
it is a BIN file that is only updated by Jim AD1C and probably converted later
on to a BIN file
I have no clue (yet)

Dima,

Explain a bit deeper in what you are trying to do,

About which Award you are talking ?

If it is not in the list then it needs to be created if it is possible.

I added in the 90’s a lot of new awards to the standard awards in DX4WIN

Later on Jim AD1C took over and rearranged the layout etc

Dear Gui!

I see you are aware of some smart tricks and round-abouts to make DX4WIN work
better for you. Please accept my respect !

But do you have any ideas how to solve problems with Custom awards Submissions
and Unique Call calculations issues which I had addressed several times before
but never got a single answer but full silence? I don’t think that war

Thanks in advance for your reply and best 73’s !

Hi Luis,
No its not possible to add Band or mode
The solution I use is before I import the wsjtx.adi file
I convert 8M to 9cm (or any other band you don't use)
And / or
MFSK sub Q65 I convert to MFSK sub JS8 (never used that either)

BUT

Before you upload to eQSL - LoTW - Clublog you need to revert again

Btw only eQSL accept 8M for now (probably it will remain the only one)
So all 9cm (=8M) QSO's are set for LoTW=N

Hello

Recently the 8 M band (40.650 - 40.750 MHz) has been authorized for CT hams

DX4Win doesn't have this band (Preferences/Station).available .
Is it possible to add this band ? If so, how?
I would appreciate your info.

[Dx4win] Missing Bands-Modes in dx4win my solution :) partII

2024-06-24 Thread ON4AOI via DX4WIN
Hi All,

Like promessed I added the download on my webpage

www.on4aoi.be

under DX4WIN subpage

This is the included README first

Since there is no way to ADD new bands or modes (Satmode=SX) in DX4WIN

I use the following methode for import and export

IMPORT:

In my case I need 8M band - Q65 submode - QO-100 Satmode 13cm/3cm (SX)

I am active from 160M - 13cm and SAT's but never been or will on 9cm

so I first convert all 8M qso's from the wsjtx_log.adi to 9cm before

I import into dx4win easy done with my wsjtx-import.bat

With the same wsjtx-import.bat I also convert Q65 submode to JS8 submode
since I never used or will

be using JS8

EXPORT TO LoTW-CLUBLOG-Eqsl(8M so far only Eqsl)

When you select upload to LoTW or Eqsl the name of the file

needs to be dx4w_upload.adi or you have to edit the bat file

When export is done use dx4win 8M-Q65-QO100 upload.bat

now all 9cm are back 8M

now all JS8 are back Q65

and finally SX mode for QO-100 is also set

BUT only IF

Band = Sat

SatName = QO-100

and

SatMode = other

Thats it

Off coarse you can edit the bat.files to your needs with a reel text editor

Hi All,

To continue yesterday's thread 8M (40MHz) I wrote months ago that there is a
way to

Have missing bands-modes in your log but on a band/mode that you never have
used or will.

I will upload a zipfile later on my webpage since attach here doesn't work

Re: [Dx4win] FT8 Integration

2024-06-18 Thread UA3AGW Dmitry Zaslavsky via DX4WIN

C‘mon ! It must be a very «complicated and expensive» feature to implement — a
kind of WSJT or JTDX or MFSK engine like
we have MMTTY here for years!

Unfortunately I’ve been facing problems with Custom Awards Submission feature
for many years and no-one was able to help. Looks like this SW is able to
process only one Custom award from the list. And if you add a 2nd or 3rd etc.—

Re: [Dx4win] FT8 Integration

2024-06-18 Thread Mike Cizek WØVTT
Hello Wayne,

The process is not, and likely will not be, automated. The easiest way I
have found is to import my WSJT QSOs into dx4win after an operating
session. Make a shortcut to wsjtx_log.adi in the folder where you keep
your log and any import or export files. Simply select:
File > Import/Export > ADIF > Import
Under options for dupes, select: Imported QSO is ignored (which should be
the default). Once you set up the shortcut, the entire process only takes
10 or 15 seconds.

You can find your wsjtx_log.adi file in the wsjtx app data folder.

I apologize but I will not be able to release a new Custom Awards
database with the new POTA reference numbers for a couple of weeks. I
hope to release something during the first week of July. I am

[Dx4win] FT8 Integration

I know I'm a bit late to the party, since FT8 has been around for a number

I couldn't find any chatter about whether or not there will be an effort to
integrate FT8 into DX4WIN. That is so that FT8 contacts can be made from
within DX4WIN, and saved to the log, thereby making dup checking and other
features available.

As it is now, I am working FT8 using WSJT-X and periodically uploading the
Adif file to DX4WIN. Not the easiest way to work.

Is there any effort ongoing to bring FT8 into DX4WIN? Thanks.

Type F5 a few times until the QSO window shows the Award Flags at the
bottom You should see one (or more) set to 'I'. Just set them back
to '--' and F10 to save the QSO changes.

For those of you using DX4WIN 9.x and tracking the Parks on the Air
(POTA) Custom Award, the award reference numbers are still the old
numbers, see:

https://mailman.qth.net/pipermail/dx4win/2024-March/027514.html

I hope to have a release with the new POTA reference numbers later this weekend.

Hi Tjerry,

I apologize for not spending time on this. I have had several other
projects going on simultaneously.

The conversion should have been straightforward. However, problems
occur when an old reference number (VE-0001, Canada) matches a new
reference number (VE-0001, Venezuela). I need to carefully document
all of these exceptions before releasing the updated Custom Award
database. People may have to make some changes by hand.

I did generate a new Custom Award database recently, but I did not
release it. It still has the old POTA reference numbers. I will
release this sometime today (June 14), then work on the POTA part this
weekend and make another release.

I know it has taken too long. I just need to make it a priority and
get it done.

The current state is that you'll still need to use the "old" (e.g.,

conversion and he's also been waiting for things to completely stabilize
before releasing the "final" (we hope!) version of the updates.

I have followed the entire procedure as described, but still have the old

[Dx4win] Can't save my log in DX4WIN 8.05 under Windows 11

2024-06-12 Thread Alain via DX4WIN
Good day everybody,

I ran DX4WIN 8.05 on Windows 10 for years with no problem at all and I've
upgraded my computer to Windows 11 without reinstall any sofware.

Since that, I can open my logbook into DX4WIN and add some QSO but when I wish
to save my log I get the following error message:

An exception occured !
Access violation at adress 0925027F. Write of adress

So I close DX4WIN but my .dxl file size is 0 (zero!) bytes and I can't reopen
it (Error message: "Unknown version of logfile ("). Fortunetly I have a backup.

I've deleted the current installation and reinstall DX4WIN into the default
folder (c:\dx4w805) but I've get same problem.

Any idea?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN country file Release #24.20 - 10 June 2024

2024-06-10 Thread k7acz
I attempted the update using the DX4WIN HELP/CHECK FOR UPDATEs
function as I have successfully done 100's of times before. But
instead of doing the update a small window opened saying there was an
exception error and the update was not installed. Sorry, I did not
write down the actual exception number. When I reopened DX4WIN I went
to my 5K0LR log entries and they still show San Andres and Providence
instead of being updated to Columbia. I tried to run the update again
but now it tells me no new updates.

TIA,
Alan K7ACZ

I suppose I could cut and paste the new CTY file into my DX4WIN folder
but don't understand why the HELP>CHECK FOR UPDATES command did not
work as it has in the past.

Re: [Dx4win] country.dat file lost

2024-06-09 Thread Ernie
Last time that I had this happen I found that Avast antivirus had
grabbed it and locked it away. Had to add exceptions in Avast for the
DX4WIN directory. Since then, no repeat of the country.dat file
disappearance. I keep a backup copy just in case...

I sure hope these antivirus programs are solving a lot more problems in
the background, than they have caused me to have to deal with. Because
they are a big pain sometimes.

Re: [Dx4win] Problem saving new QSOs

2024-05-02 Thread k7acz
I would suggest going to FILE>SAVE AS and see what opens showing where your dxl
file is stored. It should show your SAVE file. I once saved my dxl file to a
thumb drive for a safety back up before going on a trip. After my trip I had a
situation like yours because the program was looking for the thumb drive. Once
I selected my SAVE drive the program was able to find my dxl file and opened
normally.

Hi Dick,

It sounds like a file permission problem. Try using "Save As" and give the
file a different name.

Re: [Dx4win] Problem saving new QSOs

2024-05-02 Thread Jim Reisert AD1C
Hi Dick,

It sounds like a file permission problem. Try using "Save As" and
give the file a different name.

[Dx4win] DX4WIN country file Release #24.15 - 29 April 2024

2024-04-29 Thread Jim Reisert AD1C
DX4WIN Country File release #24.15 is now available from:

https://www.country-files.com/dx4win-info/

You can read the release notes at:

https://www.country-files.com/dx4win-cty-24.15-29-april-2024/

DX4WIN 9 users should use Help | Check for Updates from the main menu.
Note that there may be a delay between this announcement and when the
updated country file is actually available.

Users of older versions of DX4WIN should use the DX4WIN Data Updater:

https://ad1c.us/dx4win/updater/

Please inform me of any corrections.

That is what is showing in my DXWIN Log for FT4 QSOs.

Also when uploading the DX4WIN log to LOTW (for example) a QSO is correctly

[Dx4win] Problem saving new QSOs

2024-04-24 Thread Dick Grolleman
Hello All,

Today a problem occurred not seen before. I do work a new station and log it as
always. But doing a log save it gives a fault. It seems it can not write a new
log file in the save directory. Access denied.
What goes wrong here?

DX4Win comes up with the message An error occurred in the application.
Restarting does not solve it, and restarting the computer does not solve it.

Any suggestions?

2024-04-22 Thread Kostas SV1DPI

It's good to work withe selection tool. How?

In qso window got to filter>selection

click Add

write:

replace this name>2024

first date 01/01/2024

last date 31/12/2024

date filter check

update and ok

so every time you select 2024 from the dropdown menu under selection you
will have clusters coloured with worked, cfmd, etc entities.

This is good to watch your progress (if you see dxcc totals, you will
see only 2024) to find a "new" entity etc

I don't know if you received any replies, but if you're trying to filter
for DX only, which is presumably stations outside of the US, then filter
for the Prefix field with the !K string. This should list only
non-American QSOs. Hopefully this is what you're looking for.

2024-04-20 Thread John Paul Keon
I want to say thanks for all the help.
I finally have it figure out on how to change .DXL files
to .ADI files.
I needed to get that done so I could upload to LOTW and
get credit for my DX contacts.
I looked in the help files and tried but did not find it.
Thanks to the other users who contacte me and helped out.
It is nice to have friends who know how to do these things.

Now to figure out how to filter DX only for the DX Marathon.
Another task to figure out before December.

I don't know if you received any replies, but if you're trying to filter
for DX only, which is presumably stations outside of the US, then filter
for the Prefix field with the  !K  string. This should list only
non-American QSOs. Hopefully this is what you're looking for.

Re: [Dx4win] Converting files from .DXL to .ADI

2024-04-15 Thread Mike Cizek WØVTT
Hello Jean Paul,

The easiest way is to simply export an ADIF from dx4win. Put your saved
DXL files back into dx4win, then:

Files > Import/Export > ADIF (first choice on the list) > Export
and save the files in .ADI format.

I just tried this with my own log.

If I perform an F8 search with Custom award = POTA, and don't change
anything in the Custom award value field, DX4WIN finds 1960 POTA QSOs
in my log.

If I perform an F8 search with Custom award = POTA and '*' (asterisk)
in the Custom award value field, DX4WIN finds 1927 QSOs in my log. It
does not find the 33 QSOs that have POTA in the Custom award field,
but no park number in the Custom award value field.

I am running DX4WIN 9.0.9.1259

As far as I can tell, this works as I described in my E-mail dated
Saturday, March 30, 2024.

If you are using DX4WIN 8.x or earlier, please do NOT update the
Custom Awards database! Luc EA8AM reported a problem using the new
database. I think I had temporarily disabled some code while building
the Parks on the Air Custom Award, and forgot to enable that code
again.

I'll publish an update after 00z on Tuesday, April 2.

If you have already updated using the DX4WIN Data Updater, exit
DX4WIN, then copy DX4WIN.AWD from your BACKUP directory to your SAVE
directory. Or you can download the previous version from here:

https://ad1c.us/dx4win/awards/#24.1

I apologize for the error.

If you are tracking Parks on the Air (POTA), then please read the rest
of this message. Otherwise, you can ignore it.

As I have posted on the DX4WIN reflector more than once recently, the
Parks on the Air custom award went through a major upheaval with
respect to reference numbers. For example, all of the USA park
numbers beginning with K- now begin with US-

In this release, I have tried to maintain the original reference
number system. This is an intermediate step to converting all the
park reference numbers to their new numbers. The next step will be to
create a path for existing DX4WIN users to convert their old park
numbers to the new park numbers.

Why did I do it this way:

1. I had to do this so that users of DX4WIN 8.x and earlier could
continue to track the award. That version of DX4WIN does not have any
built-in way to convert custom award reference numbers. So the
original set of reference numbers needs to be maintained. I
*strongly* recommend that anyone who is tracking the Parks on the Air
custom award upgrade to DX4WIN 9.x if you have not already.

2. The software I wrote to maintain the original park reference
numbers will be turned into a set of rules that the Multiple QSO
operation, "Check Custom Awards" in DX4WIN 9.x will use to convert the
old park numbers to the new park numbers.

Any DX4WIN 9.x user who tracks the Parks on the Air custom award
should perform the following step after updating the Custom Award
database:

QSO | Multiple QSO operations | Check Custom Awards

NOTE: You should use an F8 search and select "POTA" in the "Custom
award" field in your logbook. Then perform the multiple QSO operation
shown above. When it asks whether to use the current filter, answer
Yes. This will allow DX4WIN to check only the POTA award and leave
all other custom awards untouched. If DX4WIN reports any errors,
please let me know the details. I may need to tweak the rules a
little in the reference number conversion.

At some point in the future, probably in a month or so, I will release
a custom award database with the last POTA reference numbers.
