Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN Award database release 16.1 - 4 January 2016
Under preferences->Packet2 I have added *NPOTA* as a Warning Pattern. I am assuming that if "NPOTA" appears in the packet message (eg, the comment field of a DX spot) then the system beep will sound. (I have "beep & show window" selected for the Packet1 Warning Messages field.) Will this work the way I expect? Re: [Dx4win] Feature Request
Here are a few enhancements I'd like to request: Add OQRS to the QSL Method dropdown list. Change the background color of the Radio button so that started/stopped status can be determined at a glance. Eg, green background means "started". Sometimes its not so obvious why a certain priority is given to a DX spot. Add an option to the right-click menu in the DX Spots window that will provide a reason (or reason code) for the priority chosen for the selected spot. (I've had spots show up as priority 8 when in reality it should have been priority 2, new mode. I couldn't determine why the wrong priority was set.) Thanks for considering. 73, Kris N5KM On Thu, Jan 9, 2014 at 7:40 AM, wrote: > > Date: Wed, 8 Jan 2014 12:17:41 -0500 > From: Paul van der Eijk > To: "dx4win@mailman.qth.net" > Subject: Re: [Dx4win] Feature Request > Message-ID: > > Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 > > Bob, > > So Noted, > > --Paul, KK4HD > > > On Tue, Jan 7, 2014 at 10:08 PM, R.T.Liddy wrote: > >> I can't resist jumping on the bandwagon. >> >> In my Contest Logging Program (CTWin), logged stations get posted >> on their appropriate frequency on the Bandmap so you can see who is >> where and if worked. [Dx4win] TS-850 control under 7.02
Sorry if this has already been covered. I've checked the archives but didn't find any related posts. I've recently upgraded from 5.03 to 7.02. I notice that the VFO control for my TS-850 is different when clicking a spot that is split. Under 5.03 the DX frequency is set in VFO A and the QSX frequency is set in VFO B but the VFOs aren't split (Ie both TX and RX are set to VFO A). The I manually split the VFOs. [I've come to live with that little quirk]. Under 7.02 the frequencies are set and the VFOs aren't split, as before. The difference now is that VFO B is selected for both TX and RX. Ie, the QSX frequency. If a non-split spot is clicked the DX frequency is set into the currently selected TX VFO (either A or B) and VFO A is selected. That is, if I'm on VFO B and click a spot, its frequency goes into VFO B and the radio switches to VFO A. So now I have to manually select VFO B. I hope all that is clear. So my question is: Is there a way to change the default radio control behavior (eg, via an edittable control file) or is it set in code? tnx, Kris N5KM From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Feb 28 02:41:52 2007 From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Dave Perry N4QS) Date: Wed Feb 28 02:47:20 2007 Subject: [Dx4win] TS-850 control under 7.02 References: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Kris, If you double click on the spot a second time, it will normally switch the VFOs so that they are split correctly. This would be a previous version that may allow you to recover most of your log. You can also search for DX4WIN.DXB which is an intermediate file that dx4win uses. It is normally in the C:\Program Files\dx4w503 directory. The previous version is DX4WIN.~XB. If you find either one of these rename it to anything.dxl and open it. It might contain most of your log. Good luck recovering your log. Please start doing frequent backups to a floppy disk. Here's the script I use: cd C:\Progra~1\dx4w503\save pkzip C:\Progra~1\dx4w503\BACKUP\dxbakup.zip -u *.* -x*.~* -xdx4win.awd copy C:\Progra~1\dx4w503\BACKUP\dxbakup.zip a: dir a: I have this in a file called dxbakup.bat. I place a shortcut to this file on my desktop, right next to the dx4win shortcut icon. Basically it updates a file called dxbakup.zip with all the files in the save directory except all the tilde files and the dx4win.awd file (since I don't make any changes to this file I don't need to back it up). The zip file is written to the hard drive then copied to the a: drive. This gives me belt and suspenders, so to speak. This script assumes the dxbakup.zip file already exists so you'll have to use pkzip to create the file the first time. I think its the -a command line option without looking it up. This is just one way of doing your backup. I'm sure there are more sophisticated methods such as adding dxbakup.bat to the Windows Task Scheduler. Hope this helps. Kris N5KM
[Dx4win] Internet DX
Terry, Set Preferences|packet1|COM port = TCP/IP Make sure you're connected to the internet (via modem, DSL, etc). In the packet window right click|internet connection. Select the packet node you're interested in. Click OK. You should see the packet node's welcome screen. Log in as usual. If your favorite node isn't listed you can edit dx4win.tcp in the save directory to add it. Terry Wilkin wrote: > > The DX packet in Northern California has ceased operation. [Dx4win] DX4WIN & 2 Radio's
Ron, I would just create two logs: w3zv-radio1.dxl and w3zv-radio2.dxl. When you're on radio1 open w3zv-radio1.dxl. When you're on radio2 open w3zv-radio2.dxl. I'm assuming you don't use both radios at the same time. I know this doesn't meet your 1 log requirement but meets your other requirement of being easy:-) 73, Kris N5KM Ron Kenwood wrote: > > I want to use DX4WIN with two radios, 1 log and be able to keep track of > which radio made the contact in a way that will let me sort on that > information. [Dx4win] Spot irregularity
Dean, The patterns are in the on-line help. Quote: When data is received from the TNC it is converted to upper case and each line is tested to see if it matches any of the four patterns. If a match is found, the DX spot is added to the DX Spotting window in the current sort order. By default, the following four patterns are defined: No specification comments 1 DX|DE|r:|f|c|q|tZ format of a regular spot 2 f|c|d|tZ|q| format for SH/DX 3 r|f|c|q| format for HTTP 4 DX|c|f|qformat send to cluster All characters have to match exactly as specified. Some characters have a special meaning: charinterpretation c callsign of DX f frequency q all other fields combined. May contain QSX, WKD, etc. followed by a frequency r callsign of station reporting the spot t time # single digit | one or more blanks Unquote. The "d" above isn't defined but its the date field. Here's my guess at what's happening. Note that the time field pattern is tZ. I think it sees the Z of AZ and thinks this is the Z of the time field. It then assumes the A is the time info. Since "A" is an invalid time field it doesn't display the spot. Make sense? I get these spots with the state appended but never noticed if the AZ spots are displayed properly or not. Kris N5KM
[Dx4win] crash
Courtney, Just use Window's search utility. start->search. Look for the log file name, probably k4wi.dxl. If you can't remember the file name just look for all .dxl files. To find the previous version look for the .~xl extension file. There's also a file called DX4WIN.DXB which is the file that is automatically saved if you don't do a manual save. See below for more info on DX4WIN.DXB. Here are the specific directories on my system: C:\Program Files\dx4w503\DX4WIN.DXB C:\Program Files\dx4w503\save\n5km.dxl If you installed in the default recommended directories then it should be the same on your system. DX4WIN.DXB -- dx4win maintains an autosave log file called DX4WIN.DXB. Let's say DX4WIN.DXB doesn't exist (which is the case when dx4win is first started). If you log a QSO and let dx4win automatically save, it will create DX4WIN.DXB in C:\Program Files\dx4w503 and save your log there. If you subsequently do a manual save your normal log, probably k4wi.dxl, will be updated but DX4WIN.DXB will remain the same, that is, not updated. The next time you let dx4win automatically save the DX4WIN.DXB file is renamed to DX4WIN.~XB and your log is saved to DX4WIN.DXB. This rolling of DX4WIN log files continues for every autosave until you exit the program. At this time the DX4WIN.DXB file is deleted and the DX4WIN.~XB file is retained. So based on your crash experience you may or may not have either of the DX4WIN log files depending on any automatic log saves prior to the crash. dx4win can detect a crashed version of your log file so you might want to try restarting dx4win. If it detects the DX4WIN.DXB file on startup it assumes the program crashed without going through the normal exit (deleting DX4WIN.DXB). You will be given the opportunity to save it. Save it with a name like crash.dxl. Then open crash.dxl and examine it for the missing QSO's. If you're lucky they will be there. If it crashed before your QSO's were autosaved you're out of luck. If you find them then just rename crash.dxl to k4wi.dxl. Your last chance is to look for DX4WIN.~XB. If this exists, rename it to something like oldlog.dxl and put it in your save directory (C:\Program Files\dx4w503\save). Open it and inspect it for the lost QSO's. If you find them rename oldlog.dxl to k4wi.dxl. Note: its not possible for DX4WIN.~XB to have ALL of your QSO's. By definition some will be missing. Good Luck. Kris N5KM PS: Based on this analysis it would appear that a better program exit strategy would be to rename DX4WIN.DXB to DX4WIN.~XB then exit. This would allow more QSO's to be recovered in case DX4WIN.~XB is the only thing left to salvage after a system crash. Courtney Judd wrote: > > Flame out here! computer crashed and I lost the few qso's that I had logged. > It saved it somewhere but I can't remember where.
