[Dx4win] Second Monitor problem...

2009-05-02 Thread Louis Dietrich
Guy and DX4WINers,

Success and here's how it was done

1. I ran an old version of DX4WIN...before I had two screens...arranged the
screens the way I wanted them...then checked the Leave windows box in the
Preferences] Screen tab...

2. Then I copied the DX4WIN.cfg file from the old version to the save
directory of the existing version. (Thanks Guy for this hint!)

3. I then opened the new version...ignoring the warning screen about
differing config files...all my screens come up on my primary monitor.

4. I rearranged the screens to my liking...and exited the program...

5. Rebooted DX4WIN ...And voila! All appears to bee in order...

Hopefully no one else will experience the problem of a second monitor (or
video card) going bad...but if you do, the above should help...

Thanks to all who responded...

73/ Regards...

Lou,
You can edit the backup dx4win.ini file first
with textpad or similar editor. normally you can
move them to your first screen with this possibility

[Dx4win] Monitor Problem...Second screen.

2009-05-01 Thread Louis Dietrich

DX4WINers!

My dual monitor card went south today...and I was able to get all the
applications which were running on the second screen back on the Primary
screenexcept DX4WIN. I've replaced the dual monitor card with my old
single card, so the computer only knows about one screen...

Usually, a right click on the TaskBar ICON and then a 'Move' will do the
trick however, the DX4WIN ICON doesn't have a 'Move' parameter.

I believe there is an .ini setting but I've been unable to find it...

So the question is ...how do you get DX4WIN to revert back to the primary
(now only) monitor?

Any help?...

73/ Regards...

Re: [Dx4win] Auto Packet Connection & Services

2009-02-24 Thread Louis Dietrich
Terry,

Read the below messages between Paul and myself in 2007 regarding the very
same issue you raised...

In addition to what Stan N3HS has mentioned, I wrote a very simple .bat file
which boots DX4WIN, ARuser (VE7CC), Ham Clock and HamCap and put this in my
start-up folder. When my PC starts, all the above programs boot and VE7CC
automatically connects to the cluster.

What is still missing is the connection from DX4WIN to ARuser, which I asked
for in thee below email to Paul.

If you or anyone would like a copy of my .bat file, just let me know...of
course you'll have to slightly modify it for your file locations...

Maybe Paul will give us an option in the next release...hope the above
helps!

Lou N2TU

"Hi Paul!...

Yes, I already moved it to the top

A lot of us are using VE7CC software as a "front end" for DX4WIN...it allows
a lot of easy automatic filteringDX4WIN really flies when you eliminate
all the crap on the clusters

I wrote a simple "bat" file which boots DX4WIN and VE7CC programs...along
with HamCap and HamCLocksimply click a DX4WIN Icon and my screens are
filled with DX4WIN and the other programseverything needed for logging,
propagation forecasting, filtering, etc

The only thing missing is the automatic connection to the previously used
internet connectionit sure would be nice to click DX4WIN and have the
program boot and connectas I said, it would be a neat option

Lou,

The easiest way is to edit dx4win.tcp and move your favorite node
to the top (use notepad for this)

Then a few Enter' keys in the packet window will select that node.

Two questions:

1. Is it possible to configure DX4WIN to automatically connect to a
cluster (VE7CC)?

2. Is there some way to have DX4WIN start when the computer boots and
NOT wait until I log in (like setting it up as a service)?
I'm using XP.

RE: [Dx4win] Freq doesn't change properly when clicking a spot.

2008-12-11 Thread Louis Dietrich
Guy,

You are 100% correct! There are no standards. Even for the most used
commands like set VFO A, Set VFO B, read VFO A, etc...

Yaesu is currently updating their CAT Operations Manual and it may be posted
this week and they are standardizing the commands for the FT2000, 950 and
9000, but I do not know about ICOM.

As for the current offset problem, inserting delays did not help the Yaesu
radios.

Lou,

In my case I don’t have the problem with ICOM but a delay is needed for the
OMNI-VII

Otherwise something is going wrong with the mode. So trying with a delay
wouldn´t arm in ICOM radios to.

BTW the biggest problem with ALL the radios on the market is that there is
no standard

Not even in there own company they have a standard look to all the problems
with the ft2000 and ft9000

All ICOM radios can´ t read VFO-B, setting is OK , I sended dozens of mail
complaining about this to ICOM

Did you get an answer? For sure I didn´t.

Guy and Walt,

The problem does not appear to be in the rig filesand slowing the
command processing doesn’t appear to be the cure. I have tried to use delays
in the file for the Yaesu FT9000/ 2000 and everything works in 7.05.

In the Yaesu series of radios, there is a menu FRQDISP...by changing it to
‘DIR’, the 7.06 problem disappeared. (Thanks John, W9ROM) Is there a similar
Menu item in ICOM...at least, you can fix the problem as Paul figures out
what happened in 7.06.

By fixing the Omni VII and K3, we seem to have “broken” the other rigs’ CAT.
The FT2000 and 9000 have very quick processors and can handle the
commands...so the problem is probably elsewhere.

BTW, for anyone interested, I have a new rig file for the updated FT9000 PEP
rigs...if you need it, please contact me off the reflector...

Hi all,

Yes the CAT part of the program is changed , Paul and I spend much time in
solving the problem

For the OMNIVII rig and the K3 rig, but didn´t found or have any problems
with my IC7800.

If you are aware how to change a rigfile via the radio database (closed log
)

you can try to give a little delay (100ms) next to the command line for

set vfo A or

set vfo B or

set mode or

set mode B

make sure you make a backup of the rigfile first

In the omniVII file we had to put a 100ms delay in one cmdline because the
radio

couldn´t process the correct sended commands.

2. If I then click on another CW spot, the rig goes to the correct
frequency.
3. If I then click on a SSB spot 14185 (Rig still on CW), the rig goes
to 14184.3. If I click on the same spot, the frequency read 14185...

Something has changed in the latest version of DX4WIN

I have switched back and forth between the versions...and have the same rig
files in both

Can anyone else verify the above?"

Sounds like a similar problemthere is definitely something different in
the latest versionI cleared my problem by changing the offset frequency
in both rigs, which is the first time I ever had to do that...

Amount of "what" offset?

There are two Pro III .RIG files, try both and see if the problem
changes/goes away. The "B" flavor doesn't work with my rig.

I have a Pro III at home, I can try this tonight.

[Dx4win] FT2000 Split Operation and DX4WIN

2008-11-10 Thread Louis Dietrich
DX4Winners,

When DX4WIN puts the Yaesu FT2000(D) into split, it activates VFO B's
receiver along with VFO B's transmitter. This puts VFO A RX in one ear and
VFO B RX in the other

My personal preference is to have VFO A Receiver remain active for two
reasons

1. If my Sub (VFO B) volume is set high, I'll get a blast of pile up
audio in one ear...makes my eyes cross!

2. I like to listen to the DX side of the pile-up (with both ears) and
only use the VFO B receiver to help spot the calling stationsso I prefer
to manually push the VFO B RX button when I need it...

I've changed the rig file for the FT2000 to leave VFO A's RX active in both
ears, while still activating VFO B's TX...

If you want a copy of my rig file to try it out, I would be glad to send it
to you...

it...

Lou, you set the baud rate by going to Preferences -> Radio and set it
there!

ago on that one...do not know about the 950and is the 2000 file now

That's a good question, Steve. I know Paul has been diligently working on
FT-2000 and FT-9000 support. I don't know how this translates to FT-950
support.

[Dx4win] i am the happier user of DX4WIN

2008-01-07 Thread Louis Dietrich
DX4WIN group

I am normally quiet on this group...but the "add country thread" as gotten
my juices flowing a bit!...I've been a user since the beginning and have
upgraded every time it has been offered...even if those upgrades have been
little more than cosmeticso I've paid my dues to speak!...

DX4WIN is a great program and very stable...which is probably the most
important attribute a program can have...but...

1. It is still missing workable rig files...long after rigs have been in the
field...when I first got my new rig, I found Paul to be very helpful...he
worked long and hard and spent many hours on the phone working through Yaesu
unique CAT problemsmaybe those with sub-par rig files can contact him to
work through the issuesDX4WIN usually lags behind the other logging
programs...users and Paul need to be proactively engaged to keep the program
current...

2. The Country file update problem shouldn't be!Paul should write an
easy to use sub-program which will allow even the most Novice DX4WIN user to
update countries, IOTAs, etcthis is a "must" for Paul to work on!

3. The LOTW export and import functions are cumbersome, at best. It is not
even a separate routine...and is listed under "Labels"...LOTW is no longer
an after thoughtit is here to stay...And there is no easy way to see
what submissions are "hard card" related versus LOTW confirmed...and DX4WIN
doesn't support "eQSL" (yuck!)Take a look at DXLabs and see how an easy
to use and efficient routine should be...Paul, attention is required

4. DX4WIN doesn't easily (or not at all!) integrate with other utility
programs such as DX Atlas or HamCap

5. Thank Goodness for Jim! AD1C ...his DX4WIN add-ons are invaluable and his
untiring support is the only reason I am staying with DX4WINthere are
plenty of other logging/ tracking programs availablesome free...which do
more than DX4WIN and are easier to usebut Jim's proactive support is
making it a difficult decision to leave...but we should *have* to rely on
Jim for every day issues like country adds

While I fully understand that this program is not the only job that the
developers have...and that ongoing support is not a profitable business...it
is important to the users that this program is at least on par with the
other offerings available...and that requires some dedicated developer
support timeI am sure everyone has their "beefs"...so maybe Paul can
give us a link where we can air them...and he can tell us if they are
fixable...and when

I am not trying to stir the pot here...just trying to make our venerable
DX4WIN more user friendly and germane.to ignore user problems by
claiming to be a "happy user" does little, in my opinion, to help
matters...there *are* issues that need to be addressed

Kostas and I have found two paths to happiness with DX4win. His is to have
all of his unique call assignments added to the AD1C updates, mine is to
never update my country file from the one I have built over the years with
my unique assignments in it.

Same result -> no problems.

Let's face it, the way to add a new country in Dx4win is a very strange one
indeed. But, new countries come along so rarely that it should not be that
difficult to follow the strange process every so often.

I believe the strongest point of dx4win is this what you are talking about.
We write a call and we all have the right country and the right zone. I am
tha cq checker in Greece and a friend was asking me what is this zone 2,
never worked. I asked his log because i was sure he has worked the zone as
he participates in contests very often and dx4win found 2-3 stations worked.

He used logger. Also same results with other programs. What is the more
important from a logging program. These two: 1. Keep the log right 2. shows

the right country file.
You say that your log is not right because a call xxx is not mapped or my
manager is not in there.
i have solved this sometime ago. I have written in relfector also and i
asked everyone to do the same. Sent your country files to Jim AD1C. He will
have them included in next release and you have not worried abt your dxcc
totals. I write every mngr i want to add in a piece of paper and send them
to Jim also. Why you don't do the same?
I hadn't ever a problem with the log.

PS1: I agree there is a need for a utility or something like that to help
anyone with a problem with his counties, even i hadn't any problem (probably
