[Dx4win] How to open cluster window and bandmap?
Some how DX4WIN got corrupted ands wouldn't load. I uninstalled and reinstalled (version 9), did the update and connected to my log but all my setup files were gone! I had saved setup pictures of the various tabs for PREFERENCES and so far all seems to be working OK... My question, how do I open the cluster/connect window to start getting spots and the bandmap?? Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN World Map
@Ron, Even so, it's the BEST ham radio map I have ever used, all the other logging program maps are Mercator projections which are kind of mind bending if you're trying to figure a beam direction quickly by sight... I have recently updated to the latest version of DX4WIN, being version 9.0.4.1176. Very recently I came to the realization that the world map in DX4WIN, in my view, is seriously deficient. For that matter, I don't think it has ever been updated, well not since the early versions of DX4WIN, like the Version 5 I first owned and used. I like it's functionality, with all it's features and projection options and it is easy to use. I have it on my LCD screen always and visitors to my radio room are certainly impressed with this visual aid. But, after all these years, it seems it has never been updated, that is, it does not even show the Canadian districts. I could not even locate Prince Edward Island. Am I incorrect in saying this is a USA DX Logging program, as it only shows USA states in detail and does not show much in the way of any other country details, not even for your very dear, nearest country neighbor, being Canada, or have I missed something, like a World Map update, since using this program for 20 years or more. There is much more of the world and DX logging than just USA states. I hope there is an updated map somewhere and that someone can advise me of how to solve this problem, such as maybe to delete this DX4WIN word map screen and find a better map or a even regrettably a better logging program. Re: [Dx4win] RTTY with MMTTY
Hi Dave, I am aware of the issue with DX4WIN selecting either CW or SSB in most cases when you click on a spot... I was hoping there was some way Paul could shut off that feature so the radio mode wouldn't change when clicking on a spot. That would solve the problem for all radios Most people know mode they are working so that feature wouldn't be necessary in most cases, like a RTTY contest for example. How do you add a spot using Alt-A? If am using the bandmap to click on a spot how does Alt-A figure into the picture?? In that situation it can only go by the CW Cutoff frequency for each band that you set in Preferences and it will either select CW or SSB. However, you will find that if RTTY is in the remarks section of the spot, DX4WIN will change your mode to RTTY. So the answer to your question is that it depends on the spot. If you add a spot using DX4WIN (Control A) and your radio is in RTTY mode, it will add RTTY to the Remarks section automatically. Before that 8.02 was released in September 2009, 8.03 in December 2009, and 8.04 in May 2010. Second -- to echo other similar comments I am a very long time user of DX4WIN, since the late '90s. The fact is DX4WIN still works and does what I need it to do and does it efficiently and reliably. But, my expectations are simple: keep track of logs and QSL cards, help me track DXCC, and be my day-to-day real time spot processing, logging, and rig control system. The log management use is not to be underestimated: between my K7ZO log, my YN5Z log, and NK7U's logs, the later for whom I have been the manager for 20+ years, I have about 400,000 QSOs to keep track of and I respond to 1,500 QSL requests a year. Certainly there are more things I use a computer for in the hobby, but I use other software for them. I did look at Log4OM a year or so ago as a modern version of a logging program and software suite. It certainly does a lot more than DX4WIN but converting my logs over was going to require a huge amount of manual work if I wanted to retain detail beyond basic QSO data. Yes, some of the Log4OM features could be added to DX4WIN. But, this leads to the next point. Third -- if we really want Paul to add features to DX4WIN we need to make it worth his while. Someone's comment mention how using DX4WIN has saved them from years of upgrade bills. However, this also means that Paul does not have a financial incentive to spend time on DX4WIN. In other words, we are getting what we pay for -- nothing. (Other than AD1C's amazing work which earned him deserved recognition at Dayton.) So we should not complain. And there are some among us who regularly spend way more on various pieces of station hardware who would vocally object to a annual software maintenance fee. The N1MM+ development team, who are motivated by something other than money, have lowered our sense of the value and worth of software. That is fine for them, but it is not fair to expect all other developers to follow the same path. I have no idea how many DX4WIN users there are, nor how much they are willing to pay for a new release of DX4WIN addressing the top requests. I would encourage those that want improvements to DX4WIN to rally the user base and present a financial case to Paul for the work. Other than that, perhaps there is a way to open source the code and let others add to it. And, if Paul rationally does not want to spend time on the software going the open source route might be a great solution for him and for us. Just my two cents worth. Re: [Dx4win] DX spots mode display?
Thanks for the information Jim, that helps -Original Message- From: Jim Reisert AD1C Sent: Friday, September 25, 2015 11:36 AM To: RadioDen45 Cc: DX4WIN Reflector Subject: Re: [Dx4win] DX spots mode display? Should I have a MODE data column displayed in my DX SPOTS window for this to work properly? If so I could not find where to add mode information to the display? There is no MODE field in the DX Spots window. DX4WIN determines the mode from the frequency, based on the CW/SSB cutoffs in your QSO preferences. DX4WIN can not determine the mode for Digital spots (RTTY, PSK, etc.) unless the mode was put there by the spotting station, which shows up in the spot comments field, for example: DX 14080 T2GC up 2-5 RTTY This can also cause problems, for example: DX 10110 R0ABC up 2 when SSB? This will cause DX4WIN to switch the mode to SSB because of the spot comment. So in summary: 1. no mode field in DX spots window 2. CW/SSB determined by spot frequency and QSO cutoff frequency preferences 2. digital spots must have the correct MODE specified in the spot comment 73 - Jim AD1C -- Jim Reisert AD1C, , http://www.ad1c.us __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Dx4win] DX spots mode display?
When I click on a spot in the band map my radio jumps to the correct spot frequency but not the correct mode, in some cases DX4WIN V8.05 shows the correct mode (mode selected in the radio when there connected) but if I click on an RTTY spot the radio will go to the correct frequency but may change modes to CW or DIGL or SSB? I’m running the Flex 6500 and using the “Flexradio” RADIO profile and everything but the digital mode selection is working... Should I have a MODE data column displayed in my DX SPOTS window for this to work properly? If so I could not find where to add mode information to the display? One solution would be if I clock on a spot and only the frequency goes to the radio and not the mode. Is this possible? I searched through the help files for several hours and cannot find an answer... DX4WIN is a very sophisticated program with enormous flexibility so I hope there is an easy solution I missed. Would appreciate any help from the members Regards, Dennis, k0eoo __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN Data Updater v. 7.01 released
Thanks Larry, I didn't know the reflector wouldn't except the short snipping clip... But, that's OK, I realized after I sent the last email that I had never installed V6.04 and was still clicking on the V6.02 icon to execute updater; no wonder I was always getting those execution errors after the updater did the updates Anyway, after I installed V6.04 I uninstalled it and deleted the icon I was clicking on and installed the new V7.01 All ran just fine! Thank you to all who helped me!! The release notes are below. I recommend that if you have installed a previous version, that you uninstall it, from the Windows Control Panel (Programs and Features). This will not remove your custom settings. Then install the latest version of the program: http://dx4win.ad1c.us/updater/#history There have been extensive changes, mostly in the area of error checking. If you have any problems during the installation, or with running the program itself, please let me know ASAP. Here are the release notes: 7.01 - 19 March 2015 * Bug fix: ignore corrupt DX4WUPD.INI (settings) file * Bug fix: use all possible methods for checking if DX4WIN is running * Bug fix: last line in DX4WIN.TCP (DX cluster nodes) wasn't being added. Apologies to ZS6RO * Bug fix: direct all internal errors to a pop-up error message window * Feature: real Windows installation program * Feature: Update button is disabled until the user chooses at least one data file to update * Other: -help and -version options work on the command line (again) * Other: BIG code cleanup (Perl Best Practices, etc.) There is still at least one user out there who is having problems. I'm hoping that this new version will bring those problems into the light, so they can be solved. 73 - Jim AD1C -- Jim Reisert AD1C, , http://www.ad1c.us __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN Data Updater v. 7.01 released
Thanks for all who replied, but, if you can find "DX4WIN updater" alphabetically in this list you have better eyes than I have See attachment. Something's strange here. It's V6.02 I'm trying to uninstall, but wait, I notice V6.04 in my dx4win805 folder and V6.02 is not to be found I'm running W7 with all updates. I'm thinking I did something wrong when I tried to install V6.04... So how do I uninstall the updater if it isn't in the uninstall list and I see no uninstaller for it in the dx4win805 folder? Thank you in advance for all the help!
