[Dx4win] How to open cluster window and bandmap?

2019-09-17 Thread radioden45
Some how DX4WIN got corrupted ands wouldn't load. I uninstalled and
reinstalled (version 9), did the update and connected to my log but all my
setup files were gone!

I had saved setup pictures of the various tabs for PREFERENCES and so far
all seems to be working OK...

My question, how do I open the cluster/connect window to start getting spots
and the bandmap?? Its been so long I forgot, LOL

I think changing the mode/submode of the old FT4 QSOs will avoid this. When
matching QSOs for import the sub-mode is now looked at too. See Multiple QSO
Operations | Change mode/sub-mode; use this after setting a filter!

@Ron,
Even so, it's the BEST ham radio map I have ever used, all the other logging

Subject: [Dx4win] DX4WIN World Map

Hello all DX4WIN users.

I have recently updated to the latest version of DX4WIN, being version
9.0.4.1176.

Very recently I came to the realization that the world map in DX4WIN, in my
view, is seriously deficient.

For that matter, I don't think it has ever been updated, well not since the
early versions of DX4WIN, like the Version 5 I first owned and used.

I like it's functionality, with all it's features and projection options and
it is easy to use. I have it on my LCD screen always and visitors to my
radio room are certainly impressed with this visual aid.

But, after all these years, it seems it has never been updated, that is, it
does not even show the Canadian districts. I could not even locate Prince
Edward Island.

Am I incorrect in saying this is a USA DX Logging program, as it only shows
USA states in detail and does not show much in the way of any other country
details, not even for your very dear, nearest country neighbor, being
Canada, or have I missed something, like a World Map update, since using
this program for 20 years or more.

There is much more of the world and DX logging than just USA states.

I hope there is an updated map somewhere and that someone can advise me of
how to solve this problem, such as maybe to delete this DX4WIN word map
screen and find a better map or a even regrettably a better logging program.

Regards, from Ron. vk3io.

I have released version 8.02 of the DX4WIN Data Updater:

So far, I have not heard any reports of major problems in the new version.
This update has a few small improvements, but no new
functionality. Here are the complete release notes:

   8.02 - 15 February 2016

   * Feature: Report if the Windows firewall may be blocking Internet
access
   * Feature: When a download error occurs, report it in the status section
in red
   * Feature: Update results (matching status section) now written to log
file
   * Bug fix: Sort calendar by event name (usually starts with callsign)
   * Bug fix: When running with -quick option, informational pop-up about a
newly downloaded Updater Program was bypassed

Thanks to the individuals who sent donations, it's much appreciated.
You will receive a more personal thank-you later this week.

Please report any program bugs or documentation errors/omissions.

p.s. in hindsight, it probably was not a good idea to use a version number

Re: [Dx4win] RTTY with MMTTY

2015-10-23 Thread RadioDen45

Hi Dave,

I am aware of the issue with DX4WIN selecting either CW or SSB in most cases
when you click on a spot... I was hoping there was some way Paul could shut
off that feature so the radio mode wouldn't change when clicking on a spot.
That would solve the problem for all radios Most people know mode they
are working so that feature wouldn't be necessary in most cases, like a RTTY
contest for example.

How do you add a spot using Alt-A? If am using the bandmap to click on a
spot how does Alt-A figure into the picture??

Thanks for the help,

Dennis,

Unless the spot has RTTY in the Remarks, DX4WIN has no way of knowing which
mode to put the radio in. In that situation it can only go by the CW Cutoff
frequency for each band that you set in Preferences and it will either
select CW or SSB. However, you will find that if RTTY is in the remarks
section of the spot, DX4WIN will change your mode to RTTY. So the answer to
your question is that it depends on the spot. If you add a spot using
DX4WIN (Control A) and your radio is in RTTY mode, it will add RTTY to the
Remarks section automatically. Have fun.

The tools to develop a new rig file are all part of DX4WIN; I have no
additional tools to do that.

Over the years, a number of users have created or helped develop new rig
files. The important difference is having access to the radio itself.

I too love DX4WIN..but if you do not have a RIG file that talks to

your radio
what do you do. I assure you NO RIG file and the enjoyment of working DX
and logging in real time is a real turn off.
So go out and buy a NON supported new rig and see how much you then enjoy
your logging program.
One of the huge incentives to buy was RIG control.
Think about not being able to use your rig with DX4WIN then think about
how
you would feel.

I bought a RIG control program from N4PY that allows it to communicate
with dx4win and fldigi. The N4PY program is amazing. Try the demo.
Beautiful radio interface.
And I paid for it.

And again all I am saying is please give us a current statement of
intentions.
I bought the program back in 2.0 have had other rigs and RIG files were
added
and supported. Really a comment from Paul is not too much to ask. IMHO.

And don't give me the "well just move on crap". Paul should be the one to
tell me this at least. No one else.

HI All,

Maybe, if Paul is not in position to update the program, we on this
list could buy access to the source code and arrange to move it forward
as
a not for profit operation. The details could be tricky to work out but
it
seems feasible if Paul is interested, and if we can make it good enough

I think that’s not a bad idea if there is anyone on the list skilled in the
art to support this code like Log4OM or N1MM for the ? revenue it might
generate...

HI All,

Maybe, if Paul is not in position to update the program, we on this list
could buy access to the source code and arrange to move it forward as a
not for profit operation. The details could be tricky to work out but it
seems feasible if Paul is interested, and if we can make it good enough
to again attract new users who would pay to join this project. I have
something like N1MM but with a paid programer(s) involved.

Thanks,

Subject: [Dx4win] DX4WIN Status -- Observations

First -- to answer AD1C's question I believe 8.05 was released in January
2011. Before that 8.02 was released in September 2009, 8.03 in December
2009, and 8.04 in May 2010.

Second -- to echo other similar comments I am a very long time user of
DX4WIN, since the late '90s. The fact is DX4WIN still works and does what I
need it to do and does it efficiently and reliably. But, my expectations are
simple: keep track of logs and QSL cards, help me track DXCC, and be my
day-to-day real time spot processing, logging, and rig control system. The
log management use is not to be underestimated: between my K7ZO log, my YN5Z
log, and NK7U's logs, the later for whom I have been the manager for 20+
years, I have about 400,000 QSOs to keep track of and I respond to 1,500 QSL
requests a year. Certainly there are more things I use a computer for in the
hobby, but I use other software for them. I did look at Log4OM a year or so
ago as a modern version of a logging program and software suite. It
certainly does a lot more than DX4WIN but converting my logs over was going
to require a huge amount of manual work if I wanted to retain detail beyond
basic QSO data. Yes, some of the Log4OM features could be added to DX4WIN.
But, this leads to the next point.

Third -- if we really want Paul to add features to DX4WIN we need to make it
worth his while. Someone's comment mention how using DX4WIN has saved them
from years of upgrade bills. However, this also means that Paul does not
have a financial incentive to spend time on DX4WIN. In other words, we are
getting what we pay for -- nothing. (Other than AD1C's amazing work which
earned him deserved recognition at Dayton.) So we should not complain. And
there are some among us who regularly spend way more on various pieces of
station hardware who would vocally object to a annual software maintenance
fee. The N1MM+ development team, who are motivated by something other than
money, have lowered our sense of the value and worth of software. That is
fine for them, but it is not fair to expect all other developers to follow
the same path. I have no idea how many DX4WIN users there are, nor how much
they are willing to pay for a new release of DX4WIN addressing the top
requests. I would encourage those that want improvements to DX4WIN to rally
the user base and present a financial case to Paul for the work. Other than
that, perhaps there is a way to open source the code and let others add to
it. And, if Paul rationally does not want to spend time on the software
going the open source route might be a great solution for him and for us.

Just my two cents worth.

Scott/K7ZO

Should I have a MODE data column displayed in my DX SPOTS window for this

If so I could not find where to add mode information to the display?

There is no MODE field in the DX Spots window. DX4WIN determines the
mode from the frequency, based on the CW/SSB cutoffs in your QSO
preferences. DX4WIN can not determine the mode for Digital spots
(RTTY, PSK, etc.) unless the mode was put there by the spotting
station, which shows up in the spot comments field, for example:

   DX 14080 T2GC up 2-5 RTTY

This can also cause problems, for example:

   DX 10110 R0ABC up 2 when SSB?

This will cause DX4WIN to switch the mode to SSB because of the spot
comment.

So in summary:

1. no mode field in DX spots window
2. CW/SSB determined by spot frequency and QSO cutoff frequency preferences
2. digital spots must have the correct MODE specified in the spot comment

[Dx4win] DX spots mode display?

2015-09-24 Thread RadioDen45
When I click on a spot in the band map my radio jumps to the correct spot
frequency but not the correct mode, in some cases

DX4WIN V8.05 shows the correct mode (mode selected in the radio when there
connected) but if I click on an RTTY spot the radio will go to the correct
frequency but may change modes to CW or DIGL or SSB?

I’m running the Flex 6500 and using the “Flexradio” RADIO profile and
everything but the digital mode selection is working...

Should I have a MODE data column displayed in my DX SPOTS window for this to
work properly? If so I could not find where to add mode information to the
display?

One solution would be if I clock on a spot and only the frequency goes to the
radio and not the mode. Is this possible? I searched through the help files
for several hours and cannot find an answer... DX4WIN is a very sophisticated
program with enormous flexibility so I hope there is an easy solution I missed.

Would appreciate any help from the members

updater did the updates

Anyway, after I installed V6.04 I uninstalled it and deleted the icon I was
clicking on and installed the new V7.01 All ran just fine!

I've released DX4WIN Data Updater v. 7.01. The release notes are below.

I recommend that if you have installed a previous version, that you
uninstall it, from the Windows Control Panel (Programs and Features).
This will not remove your custom settings. Then install the latest
version of the program:

   http://dx4win.ad1c.us/updater/#history

There have been extensive changes, mostly in the area of error
checking. If you have any problems during the installation, or with
running the program itself, please let me know ASAP.

Here are the release notes:

7.01 - 19 March 2015
   * Bug fix: ignore corrupt DX4WUPD.INI (settings) file
   * Bug fix: use all possible methods for checking if DX4WIN is running
   * Bug fix: last line in DX4WIN.TCP (DX cluster nodes) wasn't being
added. Apologies to ZS6RO
   * Bug fix: direct all internal errors to a pop-up error message window
   * Feature: real Windows installation program
   * Feature: Update button is disabled until the user chooses at
least one data file to update
   * Other: -help and -version options work on the command line (again)
   * Other: BIG code cleanup (Perl Best Practices, etc.)

There is still at least one user out there who is having problems. I'm
hoping that this new version will bring those problems into the light,
so they can be solved.

Thanks for all who replied, but, if you can find "DX4WIN updater"
alphabetically in this list you have better eyes than I have See
attachment. Something's strange here. It's V6.02 I'm trying to
uninstall, but wait, I notice V6.04 in my dx4win805 folder and V6.02 is not
to be found

I'm running W7 with all updates. I'm thinking I did something wrong when I
tried to install V6.04... So how do I uninstall the updater if it isn't in
the uninstall list and I see no uninstaller for it in the dx4win805 folder?

Thank you in advance for all the help! Dennis, k0eoo

Dennis, what's the exact date of the QSO? Does the QSL have the same

If your QSO is later than that, I'll have to fix the country file.
