[Dx4win] New Laptop win7

2011-08-18 Thread wo2n
Hi, I need some help and info. I know this is an old problem for most
I use DX4win 5.03. I just installed, installed 5.03 copied my newer save
files to new computer.
I had a tower with xp and LPT ports and serial ports. I used a home made
cable we made for CT (with the transister) to key from LPT port to radio
keyer
Now with the new laptop, I of course neither ports.

So I get errors packet failed to open, and more important could not open
CW driver.
So how do I set this up to send CW from DX4win via program keyboard?

Also I use CT for contesting CW, (and some phone) so I will also like to set
CT up to work also.

I would say I need a USB port work around?
I have DX4win program loaded and up to date.

BTW when I started DX4win the preference window had no info in it, so I
merged the ini file, and I was shocked it actually loaded all my info in
blink of eye! What a blessing, that was. 2 days customizing the new laptop
and not finished yet!

Tnx 73 de Bernie/WO2N.

congratulations for your new laptop. I hope you really enjoy it.
CW with new computers is a blast.
Most simple solution is a usb to com converter and to rearrange your simple
keying interface to a 9pin com connector. You should use pin4 for cw, pin 5
for ground and pin 7 for ptt. Ofcourse you need to setup dx4win for keying
via a com port (the number depends to usb to serial converter) - DTR for CW
and RTS for ptt. dx4win's help has more on this.
These are the good news. The bad news are that you probably have problems
because of computer multitasking. So sometimes cw is not perfect. Dx4win has
less problems with this instead of other programs. I don't know for CT. A
better solution is Winkey keyer but you shouls buy it. It is not very
expencive and Dx4win supports it. Unfortunately i don't know if CT does it.
Other solution but expencive is Microham keyers. These work just perfect and
almost everything support them but are expencive.
I suggest to start with rewiring your simple interface but keep in the edge
of your mind that you probably need something more sooner or later.
