Fellow users,

Here were my rules on doing a project.

Rule 1 TimeSet a realistic time line for the project.

Rule 2 Programming:Best scenario:
10% of time will be spend on 90% of
the code and
90% of the time will be spent on 10%

Rule 3 Documentation: P.I.A (Pain in anatomy) work, this takes longer than

Studies have shown that changes late in a Project can cost 10 times or
even 100 times more in effort than when part of the original design.
Probably best to freeze the feature set. There can always be point
releases if something particularly interesting is suggested.

Just the features mentioned so-far make the new release very interesting.

Yep Mel,

You understood It correct, the coding is not completely finished yet,
Like Jim wrote, but requesting other features will only slow down
the release, like I wrote yesterday there are other new things or changes
That aren´t announced yet.
I also don´t say that Paul may consider to write some more
Code if the suggestion/feature would be a big improvement for DX4WIN.

Another suggestion: now that the latest version of BV7 labels can export QSO
data, add that as an option for label printing. It is the best QSO label
printer I've found. Or change DX4WIN so you can print the date in various
numeric formats. Not everyone speaks English.

Please improve the "ignore mode in real time". Perhaps make it a option
under preferences.

Hi All,

In addition to what Paul and Jim announced earlier today
there are more interesting things,

- All types of SteppIR Antennas controlled by DX4WIN
and this from one or two (different !) radio´s without
changing cables.

- The ultimate Membership listing, with this neat future
you can create your own tracking list with
[L] LoTW - [F] Fist - [D] DIG - [E] eQSL (members/users) in it.
When for instance JIM is spotted you get AD1C [EL] in the Bandmap
And also in the spot window in a separated column.

- And there is more

Around this time of the year a number of users ask if there will be a
new version of DX4WIN, if there will be any special deals for Dayton
etc. The short answer is that I'm working on a new version but it will
not be ready to be released at Dayton. Even if the code would be ready
today, updating the documentation and the website will still take some
time. I also decided not to attend the Hamvention but work on the
program instead. I will miss the personal interaction, but hope to
make up by releasing the next version sooner.

The next release will have a few interesting items, such as a band map, a
new awards manager / report generator, option to select different 'skins',
a few extra fields in the QSO Window (like name, QTH and frequency)

A couple other things in the next version:

- better Satellite mode support, so Sat QSOs can be exported and
signed for LoTW.

- QSO entry now has field for IOTA island name (in addition to group ref. #).
This should make it easier to export logs for the IOTA program.

A result of this is that CW DXCC QSOs only count from 01/01/1975 and
after. This might make a few people happy.

Good news Paul. Looking forward to version 8... good luck with the
programming... to coin a phrase: "Don't let the bad bugs bite!"

[Dx4win] Next release

2009-05-13 Thread pvandereijk

I will keep you posted
