[Dx4win] No System Beep

2002-01-02 Thread Eric Lowell
I lost mine recently as well. I changed to a faster computer and I thought
that was the problem. Anyway, the new computer has a nice set of speakers,
so I just changed to voice announcements. They work. Interestingly, the
system beep still works for alerts other than for new countrys.Maybe when we
find Bin Laden, he'll spill the beans on it!

[Dx4win] No System Beep

2002-01-02 Thread Victor West
Try turning on the Packet Cluster Beep command. Type Set/beep to turn it
on, or Set/nobeep to turn it off. Additionally, the "use bell command" in
DX4WIN packet 1 preferences must be checked.

Logging and station control at AE5DX
is accomplished using DX4WIN,
version 5.03

[Dx4win] No System Beep

2002-01-02 Thread Dave Perry
Missing beep update:

I may not be the best case study since I had a hard drive crash a couple of
weeks ago. I had to reinstall the upgrade for Windows 98SE,
Norton AntiVirus 2001 and several other applications--so a lot of things
changed. After I reinstalled everything, the system beeps worked for a
while.

One thing I do remember is that I did change the setup to allow CW alerts
just to try them out. They worked fine, but I decided to go back to just
plain system beeps. When I tried to change it back, all I hear now is a
faint click--no beep.So I wonder if DX4WIN makes some change to a
.dll when you select CW Alerts, but then does not reinstall the same .dll or
.wav file if you try to go back.

I am using Version 4.7.

In my limited experience, just about any installation of something new or
"improved" can mean replacement of one .dll file with another. Supposedly,
they are backward compatible, but I have seen cases where they weren't. I
remember one epic case where we installed a piece of software on our
network and all of our Microsoft applications network-wide stopped working!

What this may suggest is that a reinstallation of DX4WIN is in order.
Fortunately, that's not a very daunting task, and can even be done in a
different directory that can be deleted to save space if it doesn't solve
the problem.

If you enable the voice alerts do they play properly when the DX is
spotted? If not I would suspect a change in the format of the spots coming
from the cluster, such that the expected format is no longer being
recognized by DX4WIN.

Just checked my voice alerts and they work fine. The grey spots do not
cause any action. All that working fine but still no BEEP ! How is have it
set up is for a voice alert only for a new country. All others except grey
spots should get a beep.

even on the internal PC speaker (with the sound card turned off).

2001-12-31 Thread Larry Burke WI5A

Posted this question a couple of weeks ago, but got no replies. Wonder if
anyone can suggest what to look at to get my "system beep" back the one
that notifies you that a new band/mode country has been spotted. It used
to work, then just disappeared not sure what I might have done to make
it stop working. I have "system beep" selected under "Packet 1" in
Preferences, but no joy. Things work just fine if I select "CW announce",
"call" (voice notification), etc. but not when "system beep" is selected.
When it worked it used to produce a noise like "ding.wav".
