Re: [Dx4win] RX Audio Levels in PSK31 Mode

2009-08-25 Thread Randy Farmer

You probably have the waterfall display configured incorrectly...
dx4win is not more or less sensitive than other programs... check in
PSK31 settings under display what you have set baseline to. It is
probably set too high. This parameter sets the black level of the waterfall.

Yup. That was it, My baseline was set to 30 for some reason. I
cranked it down to 10 and now the display looks like I expected and
the levels match those required for MMTTY. I'm not much of a digital
guy, so thanks for setting me straight.

[Dx4win] RX Audio Levels in PSK31 Mode

2009-08-24 Thread Randy Farmer
I'm in the final stages of a comprehensive station functional
checkout after installing a new K3 in my primary station. Last night
I finally got around to trying PSK31 and everything seems to work, BUT...

For some reason DX4WIN really needs a big honkin' audio signal to do
anything with PSK. MMTTY, either from within or from outside DX4WIN,
has plenty of sensitivity and MixW is OK as well. I haven't yet
checked N1MM. I'm using a microHAM Microkeyer II with a built-in
sound card. For everything but DX4WIN PSK31 I only need to set its
level pot to about 9:00 and I have plenty of signal. To get decent
audio in the DX4WIN PSK window I need to turn it up to around 3:00.
At first I thought the problem was a sound card configuration issue,
but everything checked out and I finally turned up the input and
there the signals were.

Has anyone else noticed anything else like this? I wonder if it's a
feature of the PSKCore.dll engine that DX4WIN uses for this mode.
This is far from a problem, just a puzzling thing that I don't have a
real explanation for. Is it unique to my station or has this been
seen before? This is NOT something unique to Version 8.01. I checked
and it acts exactly the same way with 7.07, which uses a slightly
earlier version of pskcore.dll.

BTW, aside from the minor issues that have already been reported,
Version 8.01 continues to run like a train here. It runs 24-7 on my
station computer and controls the radio flawlessly when I turn it on.
I really like the band map, although a few of the enhancements that
have suggested here previously would certainly be welcome.
