Re: [Dx4win] RTTY Window spots

2018-10-14 Thread Ian Fugler
Sorted. I had omitted to tick the 'Check for DX spots' box in the RTTY window
under Preferences. Now I have both VE7CC spots on the Packet Window and
(selective) RBN spots on the RTTY Window flowing into the bandmap/Dx Spots
window as I did before losing the configuration.

I have written the config into a txt file for future use. That was the only
form of back-up that I had previously misunderstood and which failed when I had
to reload DX4WIN.

Thanks, Jim.

I do use VE7CC as the primary cluster interface into DX4WIN. But I just like
to gather a secondary set of FOC RBN spots from DZ4WIN's via the RTTY Window.
I have connected to DJ1YFK and the spots are showing in that RTTY Window. But
I can't get them to flow in to the Packet Window/Bandmap.

Not to worry, I'll keep trying.

VE7CC's user program is ideal for connecting to multiple DX cluster nodes:

[Dx4win] RTTY Window spots

2018-10-13 Thread Ian Fugler
I like to have two cluster spots flowing in to the DX Spots window by using
the RTTY Window to connect to a second cluster. I have connected to two
different clusters, but the spots from the RTTY Window are not flowing into
the DX Spots Window. I cannot recall how to enable that.

Any pointers appreciated, please.

[Dx4win] rtty

2017-11-14 Thread Courtney Judd
wow, worked 3 new RTTY dxcc today: 9U4M,VP2MDC and J5T looking for
VK9MA for another. BUT, last evening I saw 9U4M spotted on 40 doing rtty
up 2. So I dropped down to 40 and sure enough Gritty showed him working
on the spotted freq correctly. here is where things get crazy. I have
been using MMTTY with DX4WIN and Writelog thru microHam keyer with the
router software. Never had any problems or seen this behavior before.
When I looked at the MMTTY print out window I see everything printed out
in reverse... that is qc qc m4u9 m4u9 pu gritty shows them correctly
so I know it's not them. So I send my call... looks like this iw4k iw4k
iw4k this has me completely buffaloed for the next hour and half
I went thru dx4win preferences, mmtty setup, and microham router looking
for anything out of place and for something to get it right again. I
have never seen this in all the time before. Nothing I did worked.
Finally just for something to do I clicked on CLEAR in the mmtty print
window. Voila! Back to normal and was able to get the 9U4 boys in the
log. Can anyone explain this behavior or is it this old dude going
crazy? lol 73's Cort K4WI

Re: [Dx4win] [RTTY] 2016 Digital Mode Most Wanted Survey

2016-05-02 Thread Ed Muns
Your input needed!

300 responses came quickly ... then, nothing. There were over 1000
responses to the last survey and we'd like at least that many to make this
one meaningful.

Please take the survey NOW so we get a more accurate tally of current
Digital DXCC needs. If you use LotW or a DXCC tracking program like DX Lab
Suite or DX4Win, etc., it is easy to mark your needs on the survey.
Entities are sorted by Prefix.

Please see Don's original email below for details.

All digital operators are invited to participate in the 2016 Digital Mode
Most Wanted Survey. Previously known as the "RTTY Most Needed DXCC Entities
Survey" in 2002, 2005 and 2011, the name has been changed to reflect current
times and to be more in line with the Digital DXCC award.

Several entities at the top of the 2011 list have been active recently, so
now is a good time to find out what's needed on the digital modes. The
survey can be found here:

http://survey.hamdocs.com/index.php/468764

Please be sure to read the "How to use the 2016 Digital Mode DX Most Wanted
Survey" at the top of the page. The survey will only be available for two
weeks and will close at 2359Z on Friday, May 13, 2016. So don't delay,
please complete the survey promptly. It is our hope to have the results
available before the Dayton Hamvention. It's very important that every
digital operator take part in the survey in order to achieve the most
accurate results possible. These surveys help DXpedition planners and are of
interest to all digital operators. Feel free to forward this invitation to
other groups.

A new feature has been added to this year's survey. It's now possible to
work on the survey, take a break from it and resume it later. You don't have
to complete the survey all at one time. There is a button at the very end of
the survey that says "Resume Later". Clicking this option will bring you to
a page that asks for your name, a password and email address. Email will be
sent to you with a link that will bring you back to the survey you were
working on. Or you can resume the survey using your password.

Thank you for your participation!

Bernie, off the top of my head, the RTTY window was to operate RTTY
with external hardware devices that had a COM port interface, like a
HAL or TNC. The MMTTY window interfaces to the MMTTY software which
makes use of your computer's sound card.

Re: [Dx4win] RTTY & dx4win latest version

2016-01-22 Thread Dave Perry, N4QS
MMTTY can also make use of an external sound card such as Signalink USB or
any other sound card installed in your Windows software. Open the MMTTY
window in DX4WIN, select Option tab in MMTTY, then Soundcard tab and select
the sound card that you would like to use. As someone suggested earlier, if
you have an external soundcard for RTTY, it is good practice to ensure that
your computer soundcard is selected as the default in Windows--while the
appropriate external soundcard for RTTY is selected in MMTTY as the one it
will use. This ensures that computer generated sounds and beeps do not get
sent to your radio.

Bernie, off the top of my head, the RTTY window was to operate RTTY with
external hardware devices that had a COM port interface, like a HAL or TNC.
The MMTTY window interfaces to the MMTTY software which makes use of your
computer's sound card.

Configure MMTTY completely OUTSIDE of DX4WIN. Make sure you can
transmit and receive.

Once that is done, all DX4WIN needs is the path to the MMTTY.exe file.
See this old application note:

Cort,

%x (small x) sends the date, so that is why you are sending the date.
I think you want %X (capital X), which starts the transmission - even
though it says starts a PSK transmission. %X is what I am using.

Offhand, I can't find the complete definitions of all the control keys
with capital letters - maybe someone else can point us at it.

Good luck.

Hello to all us DX4WIN lovers,

With the help of Jim’s app notes I was able to get DX4WIN working with MMTTY
this morning. Very cool... It does everything I need except I still cannot
click on a spot in the bandmap and have the radio stay in RTTY mode, but,
that’s not such a big deal to me because now I can click on the call, name and
rst of the DX station in the RTTY window and that info gets filled into the QSO
window, that is a big deal!

I’ve been a ham for over 55 years and I’m just now discovering RTTY, hi, hi

Dennis,

Unless the spot has RTTY in the Remarks, DX4WIN has no way of knowing which
mode to put the radio in. In that situation it can only go by the CW Cutoff
frequency for each band that you set in Preferences and it will either
select CW or SSB. However, you will find that if RTTY is in the remarks
section of the spot, DX4WIN will change your mode to RTTY. So the answer to
your question is that it depends on the spot. If you add a spot using
DX4WIN (Control A) and your radio is in RTTY mode, it will add RTTY to the
Remarks section automatically. Have fun.

Re: [Dx4win] RTTY with MMTTY

2015-10-23 Thread Duane Calvin
Alt-A allows you to post a spot for the station currently listed in DX4WIN.
Actually, the current method only requires that the spotter put RTTY in the
text field for the spot for DX4WIN to know it's a RTTY spot and cue your
rig. But if you're using a Flex, and going thru N4PY's software, I'm not
sure how that works. Since I jump around on spots from mode to mode, I'd
prefer it not ignore the mode.

Running DX4WIN, and when I went on RTTY, and turned my KAM on I get a
Error message that says, An exception occurred! List index out of
bounds(-1).

Anyone know what that means, and how to fix it.

Thanks, John W9RPM

[Dx4win] RTTY with PRO III and Microham USB III

2013-10-18 Thread Fred - NA2U
I'm going to keep trying this until I get it working. I recently had a hard
drive failure. I reinstalled DX4WIN and reconfigured it. I found this morning
that I was successful in getting PSK31 to work. Before the disk bit the dust I
couldn't get PSK31 or RTTY to work. One down and one to go.

Using Pro III, Microham USB III interface, have CW on Com5, CW keying on DTR,
PTT on RTS, RTTY Comport on Com5. Trying to use FSK (have extfsk
installed/working). Trying to use MMTTY in DX4WIN. In DX4WIN, the MMTTY
executable: c:\HAM\mmtty\mmtty.exe
I saw a note on AD1C's website that indicated that CW and RTTY have to be on
different com ports. But when I try to put RTTY on com 6 I get nothing. With
both on com 5 the transmitter keys (and sticks on keying) but I don't appear to
be getting any output.

I would really like to get this working. RTTY appears to be working OK in N1MM
program so MMTTY must be set up correctly. What might I be missing.

73 and thanks!

Have you looked at the example configuration for USB Interface III
and DX4Win available in microHAM Router (Help | Download Documents)
or in the USB III area at www.microHAM-USA.com/support.html? It
contains all of the settings necessary ...

Note - with DX4Win you *must* set the CW PTT to VOX and close the CW
Keyboard to release the CW/PTT port for use by MMTTY/EXTFSK for FSK
before you can open the MMTTY Window. Simply closing the CW Keyboard
does not seem to release the PTT (RTS).

After some 'fiddling' I have DX4Win running RTTY using MMTTY. My
problem is with editing the Macro buttons and Function Keys to send the
desired messages. The DX4Win On-Line Help explains how to edit the
Function Keys. One command option is % + a capital letter to
implement a control character. They give an example of Crl + M for
Carriage Return and Ctrl +C to send a CW ID in PSK but don't say what
other control characters are available. I've searched through the help
file but can't find anything that describes the other 24 control
character functions. Can someone point me to a list?

[Dx4win] RTTY with DX4WIN

2010-05-22 Thread ALAN ZACK
I wonder if fellow DX4WIN users would be kind enough to share how they are
using RTTY with the Yaesu FT-2000 and DX4WIN.

I have a Rig blaster pro to use as an interconnection from the PC to the
rig. Wonder if anyone has any hints or recommendations as to what program to
use, etc. Previously I worked RTTY by just using the built in programmed
messaging feature of the IC-756PROIII that I have just traded in for a
FT-2000 due to ESD problems.

For software, a number of us use MMTTY. I can't give you any hardware
tips, but here is some configuration information for DX4WIN:

http://dx4win.ad1c.us/appnotes/mmtty.htm

The most important thing is to get MMTTY working stand-alone BEFORE
you try to integrate it into DX4WIN.

[Dx4win] RTTY Help

2010-02-05 Thread Willie
Hello,

I am trying again to get DX4WIN to work with my Kenwood TS870 radio. I am
able to get a steady tone and that is all.

This is my setup;

Radio: Kenwood 870
Interface: Homebrew one transistor (AA5AU Website) **
Software: Dx4WIN Ver. 8 and MMTTY Ver. 1.66G

** The interface is built to use TXD for Writelog and RTS for DX4Win. I
make connections to the FSK input on the back of the radio. Should the
input for DX4WIN utilize pin 3 of the ACC2 plug on the rear of the radio?

Inputs will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Willie, K5DKH

In my station, once MMTTY window is closed, and I restart DX4WIN, the
window does not open again. It has worked this way since 7.0x. So I
suggest you do NOT leave MMTTY open when closing DX4WIN, and it should

2009-10-18 Thread Paul B. Peters
I think I have solved the mystery -- and must admit I feel somewhat
embarrassed about the solution.

In a previous configuration, I must have opened the MMTTY window and at that
time the monitors were one above the other. In the current configuration,
the monitors are side-by-side. I reset the monitor position in Control
Panel to the old setup and sure enough, there was the MMTTY window (at the
top of the screen) that you'd see the call signs populate while in RTTY
mode. Some how the two RTTY screens were separated and all I was seeing was
the RTTY Control Panel. Once I found the missing window, moved it into the
centre of my main screen and clicked the X to close it all was okay.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Re: [Dx4win] RTTY Window Problem

2009-05-18 Thread Mel
That window was originally for a TNC... it's not really an RTTY
window... it was for any TNC mode. If you don't have a TNC and you don't
want to use it as a secondary Telnet session, configure it as None.

Are you referring to the MMTTY window or the TNC window?

In the case of the TNC window, it will always open if a COM port has
been defined.

[Dx4win] RTTY-related Question

2009-02-25 Thread Howard Dickson
Good afternoon. I have a RTTY-related request for help.

I normally only use RTTY in contests and use N1MM as my logging
software, and I never use the spotting cluster in RTTY contests. That
having been said, this past two weeks I have been desperately trying to
work K5D on as many bands and modes as possible. My problem is this.

When I click on a spot in DX4Win, my rig (Kenwood TS-850s) moves to the
correct frequency (no problem) but, the rig gets set to FSK mode instead
of LSB, which is required for RTTY when using sound-card technology to
generate the code. In FSK mode I can copy the other station's
transmission just fine, but, when I try to transmit myself, the rig does
not get keyed and so no characters are sent. Now, if I switch my rig to
LSB I find that I must shift a few hundred kHz in order to find that
signal again (a major problem when there are many stations on the band
in the immediate area) and in so doing, DX4Win sets the mode in the
program for this QSO to SSB instead of RTTY.

My question is this - is there any way within DX4Win (Preferences
Section) to direct MTTY key the radio, even though it is in FSK mode?
Or, is there some other solution, like directing the radio to go to LSB
instead of FSK mode when a station working RTTY is spotted?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Re: [Dx4win] RTTY-related Question

2009-02-25 Thread ON4AOI
Hi Howard,

You should first setup the mmtty interface that it works the way you like,
This can be done in options under setup MMTTY,

Changing rtty settings in the kenwood ts850-950 rigfile with a text editor
can
Solve the problem with fsk and lsb, but the qso will be saved like SSB not
rtty

The easiest way is to make a small interface like can be seen on my webpage
Or in the dx4win manual that is working in FSK.

Re: [Dx4win] RTTY PTT Keying

2009-02-23 Thread Larry Gauthier (K8UT)
Flam,

Yes, DX4Win will key PTT (and the CW port) from your PC's parallel port.
You'll need to build a simple one transistor switch, and which will fit
inside the hood of a 25 pin LPT plug. See either the DX4Win or the MMTTY
Help files for excellent details. If you have a printer connected to the
parallel port, you can still use that same port for your PTT keying.

I operate lots of RTTY with DX4Win, and clicking on packet spots sets my rig
(an Icom) mode = RTTY only when the expression RTTY is in the spot.
Otherwise DX4Win will usually set the mode = CW (depends on other band
settings in the DX4Win preferences).

Sorry, but I am not familiar with the FT-1000 serial interface.

Currently i have to change tx/rx manually :=)

Also: QSO-Special keys CW/RTTY does not seem to work in the QSO
 window
when working RTTY. It unchecks itself every time i hit a function key to
 active a text macro.

 The setup is:
 COM1: WinKeyer
 COM2: FT-1000MP
 PC: older compaq (450MHz). WinXP.

The COM2 port interface is not fully implemented (or broken) regarding
RTS/CTS/DSR. I found this out when connecting the Winkeyer to COM2. It
 only
worked, when connected to COM1. Winkeyer needs theese lines for
 powersupply.

The radio is connected to the PC via the backpanels packet input. When
working RTTY you put the radio in packet mode.
Unfortunately, Dx4Win records this (correctly enough) as a PAC QSO when
logging. Is there any way of changing this, so RTTY is recorded ?

I have experimented with the .RIG file and and change the mode string for
PAC to the same string as RTTY. When i click on a RTYY spot on the
dxcluster window - it sets the mode on the radio to PAC. However, this
 is
changed the next time the PC polls the radio for information, and the QSO
mode flips back to PAC :=)

No, there is no way. Based on your settings for CW frequency cutoff under

[Dx4win] RTTY

2008-10-06 Thread F6EXV

Hi all
Since I got no response to my previous post, I will ask my question
differently

As a reminder, using DX4Win v7.01, Micro Keyer II.
When I open TrueTTY, I will get an error message about the com port
being opened already. If I close DX4Win, and just open TrueTTY, it will
work fine on its own.

TrueTTY asks me (in the setup) for a PTT port, and a data exchange port.
The Micro Keyer is set on com6 for DX4Win.

Within TrueTTY, which port should be common, which port should be
different so that I can run them both simultaneously ?
I do not think I can log directly from TrueTTY into DX4Win, but this is
not the main issue at this time.
I just would like to find out how I must set all this up so that I do
not have to close DX4Win in order to use TrueTTY

Thanks in advance

[Dx4win] Rtty What does other people use?

2007-10-02 Thread Scott and Lisa Augsburger
I was wondering what other people were using on RTTY. I have DX4WIN 7.02.15
and started playing around with the MTTY function this morning. The rig I am
using is a Icom 781 with CI-V level convertor and DX4WIN is controlling it.

I talked to West Mountain Radio this morning and he was very vag on the
computer sizing for his equipment since he's only a equipment manufacture.

For years I used the Kantronics KAM until it bit the dust.

Let me know off the reflector

[Dx4win] RTTY

2006-03-18 Thread Dennis Mowers
Does DX4WIN support FSK keying via a COM port?

I have it running with a sound card to MIC connection, but when I look
at the MMTTY setup Misc tab, the COM-TxD area is greyed out. It looks
like AFSK may the only way to run RTTY.

Thanks, Dennis

Subject: [Dx4win] World map help (version 5.03)
Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hello all,

I'm a long time user of version 5.03 and have somehow mis-configured
something. I am getting ready to do a show-n-tell of this software next week
to a local DX and contesting club I belong to. One of the things I wanted to
show off was the world map, and how it can show the path your signal took to
get there. This is especially enlightening when working someone over the
pole.

However, even though my latitude and longitude are set correctly in my
preferences, my signal path is being shown as originating from Greenland
instead of NY!

Any help would be appreciated.

Use the MMTTY stand-alone version. Get that version working first by
itself in FSK as you desire.

Then it should just work in DX4WIN. You do not specify the COM
port in DX4WIN, only in MMTTY.

I am running it FSK and it works fine.

[Dx4win] RTTY setup information for v7.01

2006-03-12 Thread Paul B. Peters, VE7BZ
For RTTY contesting I use N1MM and the MMTTY engine. I operate in AFSK mode
via my sound card interface and everything works great. I have a Mark V
dedicated to RTTY so everything stays connected all the time on that radio.
These statements are simply to acknowledge that I've got RTTY going and I
have experience with the program -- so no problems with the basic setup.

However -- I've just upgraded DX4WIN from v6.02 to v7.01 because it supports
RTTY with the MMTTY engine. I'm excited to be able to do everyday RTTY work
using DX4WIN, but it appears that I need a little help to get the program
going properly. Could someone who has RTTY running successful in DX4WIN
v7.01 please reply to the following questions.

1. Where do I tell DX4WIN that I'm keying RTTY via a soundcard interface?

2. Where do I see the special keys for RTTY referred to in the QSO tab of
the log entry window?

3. Where do I see or find the F1... Fx macro keys referred to in the Edit
Function Keys portion of the help file?

4. Does making changes to any of the MMTTY parameters for use within DX4WIN
affect MMTTY for use with other programs that also utilize the engine, i.e.
N1MM?

5. Do you have a cheat sheet for RTTY setup information for use within
DX4WIN?

I will certainly appreciate any offers of assistance.

Preferences, RTTY tab. Put the full path to MMTTY.EXE in the last line of the
window and save.

Then in your QSO window, use Window - MMTTY to bring up the RTTY window with
MMTTY interface.

 2. Where do I see the special keys for RTTY referred to in the QSO tab of

See #1 above.

 3. Where do I see or find the F1... Fx macro keys referred to in the Edit

See #1 above.

DX4WIN does not change any of the MMTTY parameters itself. It's all done
through the mini MMTTY control window.

Subject: [Dx4win] How much QSL manager data is useful?
Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi Folks,

Before I started working on the DX4WIN QSL manager database, there were about
6,600 records. Today it's getting close to 30,000 records.

Some people sent me their DX4WIN.CTY files so I could merge the data into the
master file. Some of them had over 100,000 QSL manager records. I assume they
loaded one of the databases like ON6DP or OZ7C (I think there was an Italian
one floating around as well). I threw these records out. I tend not to trust
the BIG databases because they tend to have a high error rate (on the order of
10%).

I just did a little experiment with the ON6DP database:

In my log of over 70,000 QSOs (going back to 1975), about 1/2 the DX (non-USA)
QSOs (not calls) do not have QSL managers listed. If I remove the calls
unlikely to have managers (i.e. fixed stations like G3, OH2, SM5, etc.), this
reduces to 7,760 QSOs with possible unknown managers. I then assigned QSL
managers from the ON6DP database, and found that 2,500 QSOs had managers listed
that are NOT listed in the DX4WIN QSL manager database.

What does all this mean? Based on my log alone, the database needs to grow
another 10% in order to assign missing QSL managers to my log.

Where is all this leading:

- Do you want a large QSL manager database in DX4WIN or a smaller one?

- Is quality or quantity more important? If you're unsure if the route is
good, you could always look it up somewhere else?

- Do you want only recent managers (i.e. going back to the last 10 years), or
something that goes back 20 or 30 years or even more?

- Do you not even care, because you use the GOLIST or QRZ.COM or another means
for finding QSL manager information?

Just some things to think about.

I'm also having problems getting MMTTY to work with DX4Win. According to
 the
help file, hitting F1 through F8 should key the transmitter and send the
 message.
When I try it, it doesn't key the transmitter but does que the message so
 when I
hit F11, the transmitter keys and the message goes out. Am I missing a
 special
character at the front of the message that will key the transmitter? I
 couldn't find
anything in the help file that would give me a clue.

[Dx4win] RTTY F KEYS AND COM PORT

2006-02-14 Thread Floyd Sense
Never tried that before, but did after seeing your question. I use COM2 for
RTTY and so set up COM2 for CW as you have. With no MMTTY window open, I
can send CW just fine from the window. If I then open the DX4WIN MMTTY
window, MMTTY will not key the COM2 interface under any conditions - using
the TX key in MMTTY or any of the message buffers. As you said, the CW
window doesn't have to be open at the time for this to be a problem. I also
have to set the CW port to NONE in order for MMTTY to work properly on the
same COM port.

I just recently upgraded to DX4WIN 7.01 to check out the MMTTY
implementation. I was disappointed to see that the macro buttons that
normally appear at the left of the signal displays is not present when using
MMTTY from within DX4WIN. Guess that's a casualty of the way MMTTY
implemented the interface.

Works the same way with Writelog. You get a minimalist MMTTY window.

Radio cabling according to the MicroHam interface setup.

Assuming you have MMTTY running stand-alone and correctly PTT keying the

you to recall the above settings. You can do the same for MMTTY

remember to save it again.

Through DX4WIN directly? No.

However, I have been using Iomega Automatic Backup for years with great
results. It will back up files (or directories) any time they change
to any device with a drive letter (could be local or network).

I'm not sure what the story is with this software, 1.0.2 has been
around for a long time, I found references to version 3.30 but don't
know anything about this.

[Dx4win] RTTY Macros

2005-10-06 Thread Bill
Paul

Yes it is in addition.

I must admit that I am not a great fan of digi modes.
RTTY can be fun when in the mood but psk is a big
yawn. As a result I don't use them very often and so I
am in danger of not knowing what I'm talking about (no
change there then).

There are 2 banks of macros giving 16 in total. I've left
them populated more or less as they arrived when I
downloaded the update to 7.01. I just edited the
details.

I have 3 modes of operating - normal qso, dipping into
contests for dx and rubber stamp dx. The normal qso
is well catered for by the 2 banks of macros. However I
could do with another bank of 8 to take care of
contests and dx.

Has anyone else asked for this?

[Dx4win] RTTY Window and RigBlaster

2005-10-06 Thread J. F. Samuels
John, a more accurate answer to your question might be, No, because the
RTTY window only sends and receives character data. It was supposed to be
used with a hardware TNC, such as a KAM, which does the encoding and
decoding work. I use the window that way.

The alternative method is to use a software package, such as MMTTY or MixW,
to do the sound-to-digital and vice-versa conversions. Then the RTTY window
is not used, since those packages have their own windows. The newest
version of DX4WIN has integrated support for MMTTY, I am told.

Larry, I would be interested in your jumper settings and connections for
your setup --please post them.

John,

I use the RIGblaster Plus with an Icom 756 ProIII, DX4Win 7.01, MMTY in FSK,
and a WaveNode wattmeter (LPT port interface). I operate phone, CW, RTTY,
and PSK modes, and it works well _AFTER_ spending a lot of time messing
around with the internal jumpers. I can switch between modes instantly
without any reconfiguration or switch flipping -- accomplished only by using
2 serial and two parallel ports.

- first serial port for rig control
- second serial port for MMTTY transmit control
- first parallel LPT port for rotor control
- second parallel port for CW keying and Wavenode wattmeter interface

If you decide to go with a RIGblaster Plus, let me know -- I'd be happy to
share the document I wrote that describes the correct settings in the RB
Plus. (( I do not know if those would translate into equal success with a
straight RIGblaster))

Hy everybody.

After having set al the RTTY (MMTTY) macro I founded that something is
wrong with the label of each macro. The orizontal available space (from

width of each key you can't modify the overall length.

It is something that should be happened many hears ago with the packet or cw

It is happening just to me (Athlon 1GHz + 640RAM +win XP) or is a bug?

After that I re-email my problem with the qso input window when I am

alone???

I'm running a TS2000X controlled by the ARCP software.

(dx4win is not engaged to control the radio being the ARCP much more
versatile than dx4win on this regard) The band and /or mode change any time
I receive a spot via the cluster and it drive me creazy tring to run the

that all is ok. Some time after having properly set the mode, tring to set

Subject: [Dx4win] RTTY function keys (7.01)

Hy everybody.

After having set al the RTTY (MMTTY) macro I founded that something is
wrong with the label of each macro. The orizontal available space (from
left to right) is less than half of the screen and while you can change the
width of each key you can't modify the overall length.

It is something that should be happened many hears ago with the packet or cw
window, just can't remember.

It is happening just to me (Athlon 1GHz + 640RAM +win XP) or is a bug?

After that I re-email my problem with the qso input window when I am
connected with the cluster: I have no answer about that. Is it possible I am
alone???

I'm running a TS2000X controlled by the ARCP software.

(dx4win is not engaged to control the radio being the ARCP much more
versatile than dx4win on this regard) The band and /or mode change any time
I receive a spot via the cluster and it drive me creazy tring to run the
contest or even searching and pounching on the band. Each time I must check
that all is ok. Some time after having properly set the mode, tring to set
the band, receiving a spot I must return to set again the band. Band an mode
are stable only if I insert a callsign in the call field.

Don,

The following is part of an email exchange I had with WK6F about 18 months
ago. He was able to get his KAM plus working with DX4WIN (using the null
serial cable route) by using these control sequences.

Hope this helps you also,

Subject: Re: [MMTTY] KAM emulation

Ken,

I use MMTTY in TNC241 emulation mode... primarily because that's what I
could get to work with my DX4WIN logging program. (I run MMTTY and DX4WIN
within one computer, with null modem software, so that they talk to each
other with a virtual null modem cable). Disclaimer: I know nothing about
KAM's cmd control codes -- but this is what happened when I hacked around
with it --

As an experiment, I switched to KAM emulation. MMTTY sent the following
screen and prompt to DX4WIN...
=
MMTTY Ver1.64 (C) JE3HHT 2000-2003.
TNC emulation.
Command 'RTTY'
To RX:Ctrl+C,R
To TX:Ctrl+C,T

cmd:
=
From that cmd: prompt, if I type RTTYenter I get a -RTTY 45-
response from MMTTY. Then, if I type ctrl+CR, receive character begin
arriving in the emulation receive window. If I type ctrl+CT the software
kicks MMTTY into transmit mode and send whatever characters are in the
outbound buffer. I can then toggle back-and-forth between rcv and xmt by
using those control codes. If I type ctrl+CX, MMTTY halts emulation and
returns to the cmd: prompt.

Not sure if this helps you or not -- but if you have some specific tests
you would like me to try send me an email off-line and we can hack at it.

Don, With the KAM or KAMPlus in the terminal mode,
at the command prompt, you type RTTY + Enter to get the KAM into the RTTY
mode.
Then %CT%M is the command for putting the TNC into the Transmit mode,
and %CE is the command to return to the Receive mode. You can program a
couple of function keys to do this for you, so you can just use one of the F
keys to TX and another to RX. I think this is what you are looking for?

MMTTY's author does permit his code to be used in any problem that was
sold, rather than offered as freeware. This is why it can be used in N1MM

N1MM Logger requires (as do other programs incorporating MMTTY) that the
RTTY program be downloaded separately, rather then being distributed along
with the logging program, then installed separately. This does NOT violate
the intent of MMTTY's author. How you use the freeware program is up to
you. Providing use of the freeware program to port data to another program

That may be, but my impression was that DX4WIN integrated a .dll for PSK
into the program itself, and that THAT would be a violation of MMTTY's
restriction. Or perhaps MMTTY has changed their language since I last
researched this several years ago.

Writelog does not distribute MMTTY or the shim. It's up to the user to
install these things separately. The same could presumably be done for DX4WIN.

DX4WIN should incorporate the ability to link to MMTTY, and make it as
transparent as possible.

Here's the licensing language for developers, which definitively resolves
the issue:

Commercial Programs:

If you distribute a commercial program, you CAN (emphasis added) include
code to use the MMTTY and MMSSTV Engines with your software. However, you
can not include engines as part of your distribution.

You must provide a link on your Website to the MM Hamsoft Website where
the MMTTY and MMSSTV Engine may be downloaded by your users. This will
insure that the latest version is used.

I disagree. To require two computers, or two serial ports, or a dummyup
serial program and all that shenanigans to make it work, is not integration.

Even the PSK31 window no longer works properly. In previous versions I
could click on a call and have it copy to the QSO Call window. That, at
least, was somewhat integrated. It is broken now.

In another post someone said they could use their MFJ TNC while logging in
DX4WIN. That is what I said I did with my KAM, but that is also not
integration -- the two don't talk to each other.

For casual QSOs, I use the RTTY window to drive my KAM in terminal mode.
I've set up the PF macros to do useful things, almost the same as in the PSK
window. Of course, I have to set the call and other info in DX4WIN
manually. In a contest, that would slow me up considerably, so I use MixW,
export ADIF, then import it to DX4WIN after the contest.

Appendix E mentions the possibility of data sharing with other programs,

and the oranges is PSK in DX4WIN )

In the psk mode when a call sign appears in the rx window and
 you want
to put it in the qso call window you have 3 ways to do it:
1 ) you CLICK on it with the mouse. POINT AND CLICK or
2 ) you copy and paste it in, slower than the first step or
 3) you type it in slower then the first two. Ok for casual
 contacts and
thats if you can type ( you could have a cast on or whatever you can
 imagine. )

Try the first two steps in the rtty mode , in the DX4WIN RTTY
RX window. now you may be able to copy a whole line but not a
 single letter or a
call sign, and if you are in a contest this typing the call
 sign in is
like using a horse buggy. For the casual rtty contact you can poke
along and type it in, all the rtty mode logging programs
 allow you to
point and click to add the call sign and reports, so lets at least do
what all the other programs let you do. There is a short
 fall in this
program, that is easy to fix and the reason givin for not doing so is
 not valid in my opinion.

 Just my opinion FWIW.

Lets hope Paul can understand there is a lot of interest in
 RTTY with
DX4WIN, because a few people want a CD of the program
 doesn't mean
they have no internet access and why should a majority of
 dx4win users
suffer because of a few who would need to go to a friends, library
etc. to download something? I have several friends who will not buy
dx4win because it does not work with RTTY.

[Dx4win] RTTY

2004-02-23 Thread Mel Martin
Actually, I've no idea what you are getting at in your first paragraph... so
I can't comment on that... but...

DX4Win works fine with most TUs in command mode. Does the DXP38 support a
command mode as opposed to a host mode? I used DX4Win for years on RTTY,
Pactor and Amtor using a PK900. It doesn't work with sound board RTTY... it
would be a welcome improvement.

The QSL manager has some limitations, but saying it is far to limiting to
be useful is an exaggeration... but some improvement would be appreciated.
Date sensitivity would be very helpful. I haven't had problems with mode
specific managers, but that's probably because I'm not doing much digital
operating lately.

It certainly would be nice if Paul found some time for some needed updates.
Lotw support is presently pretty anemic... seems as if DX4Win is falling
behind...

I also agree with Jim AD1C about how the QSL manager field works in
dx4win, it is far to limiting to be useful.

Its about 2 years since any real changes Paul what say you? Time to get
up to speed with 2004 needs.

Is anyone using DX4WIN and RTTY while logging? I've tried PSK31 which
works
very well but I can't get RTTY feature to work. My TU is a Hal DXP38 via
a
 com 1.

I have NO RX or TX. So I guess DX4WIN does not support the DXP38. There
is
not much in the docs or in the setup to go by. The only choice is none or
regular. I should have ordered a regular tu unit. Who makes them?

Anyone have any hints on doing RTTY with DX4WIN 6.02 and MMTTY keying FSK
via the COM port 2 ? This combo works so well with Writelog that it should
do as well with my other favorite!!! Thanks and 73's Cort K4WI

[Dx4win] RTTY Software

2003-07-06 Thread Pawel SP7PS
Hi Bill,

As I know, you can use MMTTY with DX4WIN. The only problem is, that MMTTY
engine can not be include into commercial software as DX4WIN. So, if you
have two unused COM ports or you are user of WinXP you are able to work RTTY
within DX4WIN. But it doesn't work smooth and comfortable. I use this combo
(DX4WIN and MMTTY) but only for short pile-up QSOs. For normal contacts I
open MMTTY and work from that RTTY program.
Why I do not like DX4WIN's RTTY? You can not pick the callsign nor name nor
RST from the RTTY window. You have to put it manually in proper fields of
DX4WIN. Of course the buffers use the right callsign, name, etc when you
manually filled the right places first - I mean before sending the message.

If you are user of WinXP there is small software that connect DX4WIN and
MMTTY without any extra COM ports. The software emulate virtual com ports
and in DX4WIN's setup you set e.g. COM 8 and in MMTTY COM 9. It works
perfect but need WInXP (or Win2K, I think).

Hi

I don't have a rtty tnc. Is dx4win compatible with any of the RTTY programs
available?

I know that MMTTY is out because it won't allow commercial programs to use
it.
