That seems to have done it.

The fact you restored from a complete image should not cause a

I would be inclined to re-install DX4Win and see if that clears it up
since it doesn't take very long.

Here's a history listing from Defender. Doesn't tell me much.

This program has potentially unwanted behavior.
 Advice:
Permit this detected item only if you trust the program or the
 software publisher.
 Resources:

 Category:

I'm an admin on this box, and Dx4Win was installed from a download,
initially. The drive actually is a backup from Acronis True Image,
because I suffered a lightning strike on the old machine. I don't
remember if Dx4Win was installed before or after the zootttz.

Odd. I wasn't running Defender on my XP machine in the shack, so I

DX4Win is trying to reinstall the driver every time it starts.

I wonder if there isn't a registry entry that tells DX4Win that it
is already installed. When you installed DX4Win, were you
 administrator?

Also, if you copied your installation from another computer that
 might create an issue.

You can check the Defender log. type Security Center from the
command line and click on Defender then History. There might be a
 hint there.

Copy it there manually if you have to. The original copy is in you
dx4win folder in the drivers directory.

Yes, the issue is that Windows Defender gigs me every time I
 start DX4Win.

The question is, how to stop that?

 I saw that posting. You didn't ask a question... I wasn't sure
 what the issue was.

Is the message from Windows Defender every time you start the
 DX4Win?

I put a version number in my question 8 DAYS ago, and got no
