Re: [Dx4win] keyboard update
Courtney, I bought a compact keyboard (no numeric keypad) with all those features. It appears to be manufactured by XGene and not Adesso. I don't use it because I find the trackball too small and too sensitive even when I have it set for minimum speed, etc. in the control panel. I'm curious to know how you find the sensitivity of the trackball on your Adesso. 73, Joe K2XX Courtney Judd K4WI wrote: Well I promised that I would inform all when I settled my keyboard options! ended up purchasing an Adesso WKB-3200UB wireless 2.4 Ghz with built in optical trackball, scroll wheel and hot keys. Turned out to be just what the doctor ordered everything in one place... no more reaching for the trackball. It works great with Writelog... still finding out new things... the scroll wheel will move the frequency of the rig when in the logging window... way cool! Haven't played with it in DX4WIN yet but expect good things also. Best $70 that I have spent in a while. 73's Cort K4WI ___ Dx4win mailing list Dx4win@mailman.qth.net http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win ___ Dx4win mailing list Dx4win@mailman.qth.net http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win

[Dx4win] keyboard
Hi all,and HNY! I am looking for some advice on keyboards. I am thinking about purchasing a wireless keyboard with built in trackball. I have found several on the internet...most made by Adesso...some with trackball; others with touchpad. I currently use a trackball; prefer it over a standard mouse. How does a touchpad work? Am I going to like going to a built in all-in-one for contesting and general logging with Writelog and/or DX4WIN? Any comments or suggestions welcomed! 73's Cort K4WI ___ Dx4win mailing list Dx4win@mailman.qth.net http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win
RE: [Dx4win] keyboard
And Cort, this was my reply to Steve: I must have bought it over 2 years ago now Steve; and am in the main very happy with it. I chose it as a Bluetooth device; I realised that 27MHz was not going to work; a lot of products (then) never stated the frequency, and just said Wireless. I checked the FCC number on these devices; and found the certification to be for 27MHz, so that ruled out most devices. The MX5000 I had was rather expensive at the time (?80 I think); but I think was a good investment. It is a plastic case ; the Keyboard has many fancy features that I rarely use in the shack ! The mouse uses a rechargeable battery and stand, and has good life; the keyboard uses 4 AA batteries; I never turn it off, but a set last 9 months or more - At home and IOM, I never heard any noises from it whatsoever. - At home, I have never caused it any grief, even with my 91B ! - At IOM, in a M/M environment, sometimes the keyboard had a latency build up - it would have delayed characters as seen by the screen. This was not too significant, everything got sent eventually. Put some people off, but didn't worry me too much. It has never sent garbled characters, or locked up ! The only other issue is that sometimes the keyboard unpairs itself - the mouse never does. I don't know though if this is to do with me - often I still use the main keyboard , unless I am doing some serious work ! So I am not sure if it unpairs if it is not being used. It is very simple to pair it again to the blue tooth dongle. 73 Dave G3NKC -Original Message- From: dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net [mailto:dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net]on Behalf Of Steve GW4BLE Sent: 01 January 2009 15:11 To: 'Courtney Judd K4WI'; 'ACG' Cc: 'Writelog Reflector'; 'DX4WIN' Subject: [Dx4win] keyboard Great timing on the post Cort, because I am also thinking along the same lines. Although more expensive, I think that Bluetooth - as opposed to the 27 MHz 'wireless' - is the way to go and I have been recommended the Logitech MX5000 wireless keyboard and mouse. Haven't made any purchase yet though, so would be very interested to hear from others with their recommendations. [Dx4win] Keyboard Shortcuts
Many of us use Writelog for our contest logging. In writelog (and I think CT in the old days) Alt W is used to clear the QSO entry window. In a contest you Alt W a lot, so it is second nature to Alt W if you want a clear QSO entry window. In DX4Win it's F9 plus respond to the do you really want to pop-up, if you've made any QSO relevant entries. I for one sure would like to have my Alt W key work in DX4Win. I was hoping there was a way to customize keyboard shortcuts, but I couldn't find it. Has anyone been successful in this regard? Still a happy DX4Win customer, with almost 57K QSOs in the log. Does F12 not do something similar? I am not at the PC with DX4WIN at the moment, so cannot test. Ian: Indeed it does. What I'm looking for is a way to map Alt W to F12.
