[e-gold-list] The Official Launch of the Debit Card

2000-12-12 Thread George Matyjewicz

Hi:

It's official! Today, Monday, December 11, 2000 we kickoff the
Standard Reserve debit card, which will allow you to withdraw
funds from your Standard Gold or Standard Dollar account anywhere
in the world where any pin-based debit card is accepted (using
the Plus or Interlink network).

Initially we will be working with two certified agents (market
makers in e-Gold terms) - Eric Gaither ( Gaithman's -
http://businesses.msn.com/GEGE/) and Graham Kelly (Gold Now -
http://www.goldnow.st/), both of whom have been working
diligently with us to perfect the process. While you will be
able to apply for an Instant Anywhere Account at Standard
Reserve, they are the only agents who will fund the accounts at
present. Other agents will come on board to fund these
accounts, as soon as they are certified (yes we do have a
certification process).

If anybody has any comments, complaints, praises or any other
issues during this early release, please send an e-mail to
mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

The registration process is simple (we are using a secured site,
so the information transmitted is safe):

1. Go to Standard Reserve and Sign In (button at left)
2. Select the Instant Anywhere account
3. Complete the application after which you will receive an
e-mail confirmation to which you must respond. That will bring
you to a confirmation screen at our site, where you must enter your password.
4. When that process is completed, you will be given two
alternatives for funding the account, which, at present, are
Gaithman's and GoldNow. If you have an e-gold account, you can
also transfer funds directly to this account (the debit card is
not linked to any e-Gold account).
5. After approval of your account, and payment of the account
opening fee, your debit card will be mailed to your postal
address. No debit card will be shipped until the account
opening fee is paid. Of course, you can begin using the account
for Internet transactions as soon as the account opening fee is paid.

Obviously, for those accounts who come directly from Eric or
Graham, the account will be referred back to the referring agent.

And, yes, we are prepared to handle the avalanche of
business. We have a toll-free number with ten seats in our
support center dedicated to Standard Reserve support calls (Real
people answering the telephone!).

The fees for the Instant Anywhere accounts are $75 annual support
fee plus $3 per month and a $3.50 ATM usage fee. Both Graham and
Eric have agreed to waive the in exchange fees for the initial
debit card fee ($75).

We are looking forward to this new and exciting concept.

George

PS we are accepting agent applications at
http://www.standardreserve.com We have a certified training
program, and can even provide prospective agents with a turnkey
business, complete with site, shopping cart, promotion and more.

PPS we will also be introducing an affiliates program very
shortly, which will enable you to participate in revenue from
registering **merchants**. We are in beta with that program right now.

2000-12-12 Thread vikingcoder

I guess old habits die hard, but I bet if you contacted the
Ford manufacturing plant and requested a service for your car
you would get an unsatisfactory result. You need to go to the
Ford reseller and service centre for that type of thing.

Bad analogy; the Ford plant is not offering that sort of service
 to the public.

Yes, they do. However, it is only to the service centers, or to the
mid-level resellers. This is where OmniPay is positioning itself.

I suggest people stop wasting their own time and that of
Omnipay/GSR and start using the advised procedures if they
are keen to get satisfactory results.

While I would give the same advice--they have been sitting on my
$4800 for close to two months now!--as far as wasting OmniPay's
time goes, if they were actually concerned about that they could
simply up their minimum transaction amount, and/or their fees.

They did. Again, and again... People just can't seem to get the hint.

[e-gold-list] Re: MOre on bank wire saga

2000-12-12 Thread vikingcoder

John, I'm glad your problem was finally resolved. I hope Michael soon get
his email problem corrected.

I advise the following to anyone who has a problem with either e-gold or
OmniPay. Please make sure that the problem actually originated with them.

John's problem originated at an intermediary bank. Micheal's problem
probably originated at his ISP. There many steps in any modern online
transaction. A problem might not have originated at either your end or
their end.

I'm not saying that e-gold or OmniPay is infallible, or perfect. I'm
saying that I believe the companies to be run by honorable, knowledgeable
people. e-gold is NOT a dot-com company. This can be illustrated by hard
numbers. PayPal is a dot-com company. They spent $200 million to acquire a
$40 million asset base, whereas e-gold spent a portion of $3 million to
acquire a $13+ million asset base.

[e-gold-list] GSR to increase OmniPay InExchange Minimums

Just a reminder...

Subject: GSR to increase OmniPay InExchange Minimums

Effective December 15, 2000, GSR will no longer accept OmniPay exchange
orders from national currency to e-metal (InExchange) that are less than the
following amounts:

USD 3,000
AUD 5,000
GBP 2,000
CAD 4,000
DEM 6,000
FFR 19,000
YEN 278,000
CHF 4,000

e-gold Users who wish to exchange amounts less than these minimums are
encouraged to visit the independent market makers listed on the Directory
page at the e-gold website:

http://www.e-gold.com/unsecure/links.htm

However, no minimum is applicable to OmniPay exchanges from e-metal to
national currency (OutExchange); thus, e-gold users may continue to use
OmniPay as a means to pay entities who do not yet have e-gold accounts (i.e.
to pay the credit card bill).

[Note that the Harvard Club is now "business casual". No more jackets and
ties... --RAH]

The Digital Commerce Society of Boston

 Presents

Chuck Wade,
Senior Researcher, Internet Payments and Security,
CommerceNet

Legacy Electronic Payment Systems meet the Internet:
  Using ACH for Internet Payments

 Tuesday, January 2nd, 2000
 12 - 2 PM
The Downtown Harvard Club of Boston
One Federal Street, Boston, MA

Electronic payment systems have been around for more than a
quarter century, but are characterized by a legacy of private
networks and mainframe transaction processing systems. Recently,
there have been a variety of new schemes proposed and even
implemented to bring legacy epayment systems to the Internet.
This is especially true of the Automated Clearing House (ACH)

system, which is evolving rapidly to support new interfaces with
Internet-based payment services.

This talk will focus on some of the approaches being used to
adapt the legacy ACH system to new Internet payment services, and
will explore some of the positive and negative implications of
these developments.

Chuck Wade is a Senior Researcher for CommerceNet focusing on
Internet payments and information security. Prior to joining
CommerceNet, he was a Principal Consultant in the Information
Security Group of BBN Technologies. At BBN, he led Electronic
Commerce initiatives and client engagements, with most of his
consulting work within the Financial Industry. As one of the
original participants in the FSTC eCheck Project, Chuck has been
involved with over-the-Internet electronic payments since the mid
1990's. He also contributed directly to the architecture, design,
deployment and testing of various large, mission-critical
networks, including the trading floor network for the New York
and American Stock Exchanges.

In a career spanning a quarter century, Chuck spent all of the
'90s with BBN (now a part of Verizon) as a Consultant and Systems
Architect. During most of the '80s, he worked at Motorola
directing the Advanced Technology Group for the Codex division.
He has also worked in the minicomputer industry and university
research. He holds both Sc.B. and Sc.M. degrees from Brown
University in Electrical Engineering.

This meeting of the Digital Commerce Society of Boston will be held on
Tuesday, January 2nd, 2000, from 12pm - 2pm at the Downtown Branch of
the Harvard Club of Boston, on One Federal Street. The price for lunch is
$35.00. This price includes lunch, room rental, A/V hardware if
necessary, and the speakers' lunch. The Harvard Club has relaxed its
dress code, which is now "business casual", meaning no sneakers or jeans.
Fair warning: since we purchase these luncheons in advance, we will be
unable to refund the price of your meal if the Club finds you in
violation of what's left of its dress code.

We need to receive a company check, or money order, (or, if we *really*
know you, a personal check) payable to "The Harvard Club of Boston", by
Saturday, December 30th, or you won't be on the list for lunch. Checks
payable to anyone else but The Harvard Club of Boston will have to be
sent back.

Checks should be sent to Robert Hettinga, 44 Farquhar Street, Boston,
Massachusetts, 02131. Again, they *must* be made payable to "The Harvard
Club of Boston", in the amount of $35.00. Please include your e-mail
address so that we can send you a confirmation

If anyone has questions, or has a problem with these arrangements (We've
had to work with glacial A/P departments more than once, for instance),
please let us know via e-mail, and we'll see if we can work something
out.

Upcoming speakers for DCSB are:

February 6 Ted Byfield Decentralized DNS Control
March 6 Scott Moskowitz Watermarking and Bluespike

As you can see, :-), we are actively searching for future speakers. If
you are in Boston on the first Tuesday of the month, are a principal in
digital commerce, and would like to make a presentation to the Society,
please send e-mail to the DCSB Program Committee, care of Robert
Hettinga, mailto: [EMAIL PROTECTED].

[e-gold-list] update on wires

2000-12-12 Thread Destiny Worldwide

OUr bank reports that the missing $20.00 was
subtracted by Omnipay's bank. Perhaps this is a new policy, but Omnipay
should say something aobut this, otherwaise all in exchanges will cme up $20.00
short.

The second thinkg I learned today is that apparantly the bank
OMnipay is using has recently changed the way they handle wire transfers.
The result has been that the bank has misplaced upwards of 300+ wires.
OMnipay's wires are in this batch. Apparantly the feds are
investigating the problem at the bank, it is so serious, and there is, according
to my source, a lot of lawsuits resulting form the bank's screw up.

I dont' know why Omnipay just can't inform people of its
problems and tell people what they can do to help resolve them, rather than
waiting for cusotmers to become so frustrated they have to threaten to sue to
get attention. This is the last wire I will send to Omnipay for a long,
long time and my agent applicaiton is on indefinite hold. They really need
to communicate better with customers. I was also informed that they are
financially sound.
