[e-gold-list] Re: finding JH Cloos!

2001-04-30 Thread James H. Cloos Jr.

jpm Who was it (other than me) that was contributing a reward towards
jpm anyone who can find poor old Jim Cloos? (Hope he's OK)

I just noticed this while grepping through my (vast) mail backlog

I don't see either of my recent posts here in that backlog; they were
sent via alternate means but should have had my standard headers

Anyway, offline issues[1] have gotten in the way of online stuff. And
now I see that the dsl is down. I'll look into the latter, but have no
eta yet. At least part of the site will be set up on my mail colo, but
contractual restrictions prevent domain sales and renewals from being
on that box. Those will have to wait until the dsl is back up, and also
until the FF is done.

You can use:

https://rr-n1-tor.opensrs.net/manage

to manage domains. http://manage.opensrs.net will also direct there
via a frame.

I do still need to do a full audit of the domains activity; if any
refunds are due, they will be made. Dollars vs ounces will as always
be in the customers favour, and interest will be included on a thirty
day basis.

-JimC

[1] *Not* the kind of offline issues Parker has been stuck with, but
cumbersome nonetheless.

repudiation rules (and fees, interest, etc) for cash advances are
different than for purchases. And if you did try to repudiate, I'm
sure the bank would grab the surveillance video and seriously look at
bringing fraud charges. (At least over here; rest of the world may be
less inclined to look to the courts... :)

A cc ca would not be as soft as a cc purchase on jp's scale.

Hmm.

How much would anyone be willing to pay for such a service?
One percent? Two?

You wouldn't, since it would go via the SCI.

The harder part is verifying that recipient has control of their

idea on how to do that.

It is not up on domains.jhcloos.net yet, but we now offer Thawte certificates.

Normal server certs are 12.75 grams of gold.
Super certs are 34 grams of gold.

In both cases, the other metals are accepted at par, based on the metaldata.asp
exchange rates.

[e-gold-list] Re: spends on egold using palm

"jpm" == jpm [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

jpm Hey --- what is happening about using PALM to use e-gold? Is it
jpm possible to do an e-gold spend using a palm as yet?

I would encourage e-gold to provide a pqa for palm viis (and vs and
iiis with cdpd (and/or gsm?) modems).

Also, an additional argument for the SCI would be very useful.
Perhaps something like ... name="platform" value="foobar"
where foobar could be eg html-3.2, xhtml-1.1, xml, wml-1.1,
hdml-1.0, etc. For use with palm pqas, it could be pqa.

This would allow the sci to work across all the new platforms w/o
wasting what can be very costly bandwidth. The pqa-stle output would,
eg, include the palm-specific meta tags, reference all images to the
pqa, be formatted fo rthe palm's 160x160 pixel display, et al.

(Yes, as you might guess, I am workign on a pqa for domain
registration and management.)

[e-gold-list] x

2000-11-08 Thread James H. Cloos Jr.

for those watching the evolution of x.com (so well documented in this
list :), they sent out the closing announcement tonight.

effective 2000/dec/01 all checking, cd and mutual fund accounts are
closed. the cd holders of course get the full interest which would
have been paid at maturity; probably only a small charge for the
bottom line.

they stop accepting deposits on the 20th.

earlier there was a proxy vote on adding debit cards and check writing
privs to the money market fund. this has been followed by the recent
addition of interest payments on paypal balances.

i expect an announcement soon of a debit card (titanium again?) and
checks for paypal accounts.

x certainly had more money behind it than paypal, but it seems the
us consumers were just not ready to buy into fully internet banks;
paypal's positioning as a c2c payment facilitator proved to be the
better sell.

perhaps some other net-only bank will move into the vacuum left
behind by x. or not.

a brokerage account with unlimited checks and a debit card is
perhaps a better choice.

in the end, though, my money is on e-gold and family.
