Hey, Slashdot *IS* work. ;^) Some days more than others...anyway, it's a
source of programmers who'd be able to play with the shopping cart, as
I again try to get below... They could also implement things like Fairtunes
and any number of tips-for artists schemes. :) More tipjars, I say!!

Of course, if you hack the Slashcode and make moderator points sellable
for e-gold, you get 10 grams from me (personally). :^) Must be done under
the appropriate (free) licenses, and must work on at least one Slashcode
site to qualify, but the first one WINS 10 GRAMS!

If you don't know, you probably can't. You'd need slashdot moderator
points, which you get for posting high-moderated comments. Some of your
geekier friends at work may have them, especially the slacker types who
read slashdot instead of doing work ;-)

Even if you don't have moderator points, you can still post replies.

People may have trouble finding that URL. It only goes to the AP page for
selecting which news outlet. The exact URL is (currently)
http://wire.ap.org/APnews/center_story.html?FRONTID=TECHNOLOGY&STORYID=APIS7
CMFRLG0

used on the Florida Today Site.

Here is the article presented in 'The Australian IT' with a better headline!
"Gold the net currency"
http://australianit.news.com.au/common/storyPage/0,3811,2133992%255E442,00.h

My e-gold account is #107242.

Thanks! :)

There's an article on Slashdot right now:

Using Gold As Online Currency

Posted by Hemos on Monday June 18, @07:22
from the flooz-beemz- dept.
JerkyBoy writes "Salon.com has an interesting story about using gold for online
transactions. One company that provides the service (goldmoney.com) describes
itself as "an online payment system that combines the world's oldest money,
gold, with Internet technology to provide a safe, easy and inexpensive way for
anyone to transact business 24 hours a day. Payments are made electronically
using GoldGrams™, which are grams of gold that circulate world-wide through the
Internet." I wonder if I can configure the MIME types on my Apache server to
send golden email attachments?" Hehe - this is basically the same thing as
people have been trying to do with creating new online currency.

Good article. I'm glad to see a journalist who doesn't just off-handedly
lump e-gold with beenz & flooz, however Marcelo's editor butchered it a
little; especially concerning the title "Cyber Currencies Spawn
Money-Laundering Fears".
Yeah, I know, sensationalism sells. Like I said, all in all it was
actually a good article.
