If the customer is willing to wire the money, why not get them to 
wire it straight to you? Why bother with a MM at all?

Does sound a bit fishy IMO.

Very simply because the sender, located in the USA, wanted to use Western 
Union, and  we are not in a country which WU sends to. If the customer had 
used a direct bank wire that would have been much simpler for us. I really 
never thought that using an MM would be so difficult otherwise I would have 
tried harder to persuade him that WU was not the way to go, but I usually 
try to make things as easy as possible for people sending me money :)
